Short documentary on East London police crackdown
« on: 07 March 2012, 02:04:29 pm »
Hello,

I'm a trainee journalist at City University doing research for a short documentary about the police crackdown on sex workers in East London.

I'd really like to get your opinion if you've been affected by this or if you know someone who's been affected.

Anything you tell me will be treated as confidential.

Here's an example of some previous work I've done relating to sex work

It would be great to meet you,

Kind regards,
Thomas

Most women on here are independent so would not have been affected at all as escorting is not illegal.  You would be better off asking either street workers or brothel owners as both of these are illegal and therefor are the ones who may be affected by this.

I have read your blog and thought it quite well written but it is just a shame that the woman you chose to interview had to have been one the of stereotypical sex workers who were abused in her past.  Not quite as objective as hoped when I got to that part.  It would have been better if you had interviewed an average sex worker who chose this line of work and comes from a normal family background with no stereotypical headline grabbing abuse in her past
Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact

Oh I think part of what some of us do is illegal and directly relevant.
Namely offering "Duos" or renting out spare room for by the hour / day, to other escorts.
Both these things are (IMO, wrongly) illegal.
I know one Indy, raided by the police for ads, offering i/c Duos.
In central London very close to the Olympics.

So it seems a fair enough enquiry.

Danielle_xx,

Thanks for your comment. I knew the woman I interviewed for over a year and she became a friend - so I didn't chose to interview here out of a number of other possible interviewees, she was just the person I had come to know and I thought she had an interesting story that people should know about. I don't say that she is representative of people in the industry.

The new link is this if anyone would like to have a look: http://www.thomasjlowe.com/2011/02/05/interview-life-of-a-call-girl/

JodyTs,

Do you think the Indy you mention would be willing to speak to me?

The lady in question said she'd never talk to the press
as there is no upside and she's not want the exposure etc.....
That is typically the response you are likely to get from any sorted aware escort.
Good luck though.
