Hi Everyone,
As some of you may be aware, SWARM (the Sex Workers Advocacy and Resistance Movement) has brand new Midlands branch under the SWARM (red) Umbrella. Right now we are primarily based in Nottingham, but looking to expand across the Midlands as our numbers grow.
We held our first social gathering in Nottingham at the end of May, where it was noted that we really ought to make a post on SAAFE to let the local sex worker community aware of our new presence here in the Midlands.
So far as a new movement we are meeting once a month on the last Tuesday of every month, from 7:30-9:30pm. This is a safe, sex workers only space, welcoming anyone working in the industry of any gender and from all walks of life.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes, crisps, biscuits and other snack refreshments provided. This is simply an open, non-judgmental, non-competitive space for fellow workers to have a chat with others in the industry and make friends in what can be a very isolating profession.
Our next gathering is next week, Tuesday 26th June, from 7:30-9:30pm - get in touch for full address details.
Our full mission statement, as published on our Facebook page, reads as follows:
SWARM Midlands is a sex worker lead organisation which exists primarily to provide a safe, non-competitive space where sex-workers of all types can meet up and socialise, with the understanding that sex work is often an isolating profession.
We have no religious or political affiliations and welcome sex workers from all walks of life.
SWARM Midlands supports and campaigns for the full decriminalisation of sex work, understanding this to be an essential step towards enabling safe working conditions and the ability to assert our human and labour rights.
SWARM Midlands welcomes sex workers of all genders, and stands against racism, sexism, classism, fascism, homophobia, transphobia and religious intolerance.
If you would like to join us for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat with others in the profession, please do get in touch, and we hope to see you on the last Tuesday of each month!
Thanks,
Jessica and Charley xx
