Why Do I Feel Anxious Taking a Day Off?
« on: 26 November 2016, 10:32:21 pm »
I call myself part time but I'm flexible with times and days and often I'm available 7 days a week. But when I do need to take time off to do other things, I feel quite anxious. I'm fine if I know there'll be no work that day, but I don't want to take time off unecessarily in case of it being dead the next day/week. I realise that I am entitled to a break or day off but I can't seem to relax about it. I missed 8 calls today and one was from someone who was really nice. Anyone else feel like this?  ???

Each week my set days of work are booked and planned so friday to sun or wed to fri (or what ever days i feel like doing) so the other days are my days off, I am assuming you work from home or have a work flat? You need to give your self set days of work and set days off you could alternate them weekly? You need time to switch off completely for your sanity and well being although saying that i do answer emails on my day off and some times reply to texts if i have nothing better to do but my work phone mostly remains on silent in my bed side drawer on days off.

Just work your set days consistantly and put money up then you should be able to relax.

Edit* or are you out call only? I understand your dilemma a bit more if thats the case x

I work Mon-Fri so my weekends are my own, my phone is switched off from Friday afternoon till Monday morning. You having the odd day off and not having a fixed routine is bound to cause anxiety but switching your phone off is the best IMO. You cannot predict future earnings and if you worry about that you wouldn't take any time off. If a punter misses you on a certain day they will call back another day so don't panic about it.

I think it's linked to being self-employed. I freelance in my other job and absolutely hate saying no to work in case they don't offer me more; common sense tells me that actually it's good to not be available sometimes as it shows you're busy, but I still hate turning customers away.

On the plus side, having a lot of work in my other job means I'm more likely to turn down punters I don't get good vibes from (and I was pretty picky to begin with). But I do get really annoyed when I can't see a good regular for whatever reason.

I agree with Kay - it's being self employed that makes me feel like this. When yours is the only money coming into the household, and you've got a child to support as well as yourself, the pressure is on.

I haven't had a full day off with no camming or bookings for at least two months. I just can't do it. I end up sitting around getting all twitchy and feeling really lazy and guilty.

Yes, this is exactly it. You've hit the nail right on the head! Although I don't need much to live on, this is my only income at the moment and it's just me and my dog. I'm always keen to take a booking as I don't know when the next one will be.

Sometimes I know when it's time to take a break, the other day i had tickets for a concert i had requests for booking, but i like to do some fun things for myself i would never quit real life plans for clients.

There are always more clients out there.

I don't think it's just because you are self employed...I think it has to do with the nature of getting very good money relatively quickly. I think it becomes an addiction and if you take a break you may start to experience withdrawal.

I do think this is a common self employed phenomenon. Its all about feeling secure financially and that is harder with no  regular predictable pay check.
I used to have this problem too.
Its a fear of the money/clients suddenly disappearing overnight. I am a huge fan of eft for emotions like this. Have a look at Brad yates free eft vids on YouTube.. Maybe tap along with one about fear of not having enough money. All of a sudden you will feel really carefree!

I am not relying on the SW income, I see it as a supplement...however, I still feel panicky when I go a week without seeing a client. This is why I don't think the panic is purely to do with being self employed. It's about being addicted to quick money obtained via risk. What we do is a huge risk and we get high rewards. This type of behaviour is addictive.

Yes I'm familiar with this feeling, like you I find it difficult to predict. What I do is definitely take off time which has to be taken, for instance if there's a course or concert that I really, really have to attend I'll do it.

I currently am starting work in my other profession, which pays a lot less for a similar amount of work if not more, and it's a list something very new to me which makes me very anxious and not want to do it. In other words. I'm in that place where I'm worried that the lower paid work will get in the way of my availability for sex work bookings which is where I make the money which allows me to fund things for my other business.

This isn't a thread about other forms of work, my post is about those dilemmas over bring self-employed.

What I try to remember is that it's all investment in me whether it's time off for the sake of it, or time off participating in further qualifications, training that sort of thing.

Also remember that a booking isn't a booking until it happens.

Normal response but if you haven't got other aspects in life which fulfil you other than , men or escorting or both..time to reflect?
