You know it yourself.  This isn't about you, your laziness or your bills.  This is about him, his jealousy and his inability to handle your occupation.  My husband was much like your boyfriend but I put up with it as I knew he was essentially a good man, just one who was coping really badly with a novel situation.  He got better as he realised if he didn't, our relationship would end and he would probably lose me forever.

One warning I would give however, is don't allow him to push you into giving up against your will.  Two of my friends gave up work (reluctantly) for their boyfriends, only for him to continue behaving badly even after she had found a new job.  Both girls have now moved on to new and better boyfriends, so it wasn't that much of a loss I guess.
