Paper ten pound notes.
« on: 06 March 2018, 10:19:02 am »
In Scotland NO paper ten pound notes are accepted anywhere although the banks will take them. So it?s ok to accept from clients IF you want to put the money in the bank.

Maybe somebody can come along and advise on England.

In Scotland all 20s fine for now.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Was phased out on 1st March and this says can only be exchanged at the Bank of England or maybe normal bank at discretion, don't take any of them ladies!

New ?20 not until 2020 though.

That's good news, I thought they were scheduled this year.

I hate these new notes. They stick together, it's really hard to estimate by feel/sight how many you've got, and they have a tendency to just slip out of your pocket if you're pulling out your car keys.

I say all that, then I hate myself because I sound like all the old dears I used to see in the bingo hall I worked in during the 80s: "Ooh this new money, I hate it, what was wrong with pounds shillings and pence? Here's my purse love, just take what you need"
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes

I don't like them, they don't feel like real money! I have had a few fall out of my purse when I've pulled out a twenty, very embarrassing as I like to look as poor as I can most of the time  :D

Honestly if you have a few new notes together in a purse that holds them flat they fall out so easily. I never used to have this problem..wonder why?!

The old ten pound notes ceased to be legal tender from 1st march 2018 - don't accept them.
I like the new ones - the more the better!!!

The only thing I really dislike is that they stick together too easily so need careful checking when counting.

I had not realised they were doing the same with the 20's too in a couple of years.  The new notes do look cleaner and they are lighter in weight I think so neater to carry around but as long as my fees are paid in full then no problem. Not like we have a choice when the final changeover has taken place.

I've never experienced any of the new ones sticking together, so always baffled by the complaints.

The bank I use most frequently tell me they will accept the old notes paid into an account indefinitely.

More like harder to count and separate than sticking together as if glued. They are little buggers for folding.  Sorry if my wording baffled you. The new ones are definitely more difficult to handle than the old notes. Do you disagree with that too?

I find I am checking twice when counting the new ones whereas no need to do that with old tenners/current twenties.

 ;)

I find them just fine, I hear moans about them in outside sex work life but don't have any issues myself and neither does my OH. We must have magic hands.

My bet is that 'THEY' did it on purpose - to make people annoyed with the notes. A little mind trick to help transition into cashless society.
 :(

I very much doubt we'll become a cashless society, as there are many businesses (not just sex work) that rely on cash, not to mention all those people who are bankrupt or have bad credit.

Us Brits like to moan at anything!
If it's not the weather then it's the new ?5/10 notes. I quite like the new ones as they are "clean"  - old paper ones grubby and smelly (see - moaning again.....!)
