He probably thought you would take it positively and it would put him in your good graces. However, it has backfired somewhat by making you feel uncomfortable.

The best thing to speak to your friends and ask exactly what they said, and also tell them not discuss you professionally, although it might mean that you could lose out on a potential booking. If your friends use an alias, then I am sure they will be careful to only use yours. Again, talk to them directly, it is the only way you will get peace of mind.

I've had recommendations from an escort friend before, honestly zi could kiss this woman as she had recommended me to a number of lovely clients before, she didn't need to. I take it as a positive.

He seems like bit of a gossipy hoe detective showing off his knowledge about you and your circle. Not good...sounds a bit stalkery.
I bet he will gossip about you with the next hoe he books!

I and my girlfriends recommend each other to clients quite often. I pass on people I that aren't my type and vice versa.
Our agreement is that first we ask permission after discussing the client.
Only then do we pass on the work numbers.

I'd think twice about revealing your birth name to 'work collegues' as often people you trust will give away your personal details to every man dog and Facearse without a second thought, especially the moment you stop being 'friends'. Anything you reveal is social media and forum fodder.
Hopefully they don't know your full birth name.

Personally I wouldn't book in a loose lips 'fact collector' twice.

One of my pet hates about this job is those clients that consider themselves some kind of revered expert on the local prozzie scene 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ really grinds my gears. I won't ban them just for that though, and in fairness these types often do try to be good clients because they understand a lot of the etiquette around seeing sex workers.

In your case I wouldn't worry, it definitely would make me feel exposed but just consider it a compliment  :)

I agree though it's best not to tell your real name to friends who also work in the sex industry. Even if you feel you can completely trust them, it's just awkward. A few times when I've done duo or group bookings with people I am close to outside of work, we have accidentally called each other by our real name in front of a client because we are so used to that. I don't think using work names all the time takes anything away from the friendship because at the end of the day our working personas are one (often big) part of who we are. It is important to embrace your working name I think. Just not all the time and not in all areas of your life.

One punter who told me a friend recommended me, ignored my directions because his friend had told him. He put the phone down without listening or looking at me pointing out my front door.

Proceeded to phone from outside the front door, full view and earshot of neighbours,  'Mirror is this the door, number xx?'.

He was a particularly nervous punter, wouldn't let me kiss him, kept even our public bones apart with his hands.

Not a good way to have a relaxed booking.

Apart from that so long as they book, turn up, are discrete I don't mind how they say they found me. I've also had punters totally lie about the website they found me on.

I don't have a problem with it and I'm happy to recommend some of my friends if I think a client would like them. It sometimes results in a three some .

I'm not too bothered if they know my real first name but only for a select trusted regulars I have known a long time. Although I hate them asking my real name as some put pressure on you. It's always my choice if I let them have it.
