Title: What would you had said/done if a client shorted you by a 5
Post by: UrbaneAspects on 03 April 2009, 06:57:04 am
Ok, this happened a couple weeks ago but nevertheless I thought about it again and wanted to ask what would y'all have done.

Ok, so all was well and I got the fee up front. Now, as he gave me the fee he told me that he was able to take out x amount of dollars because the atm only gave out 20's or larger. So he told me he had had x amount which was 5 dollars less than my rate. I was like, ok whatever since it was just 5 dollars and atleast he told me beforehand.

But, the booking still didnt end up going as smoothly as it would have. I think that missing 5 bucks killed it for me. It was already late (2am) and so I didnt want to be like, "well, go down to cash machine and meet me back." But then again I thought I shoulda been like, "nah, I cant do it. You need to get the extra $$$ and then we can get down to business."

What would you have done? By the way, 5 U.S. dollars = 3.3942027 British pounds 4/3/2009

:o  I'll make sure I say that next time I pay my phone bill. In a year I'd save up $60 if I use that one everytime

Now you're just being petulant. The difference between your example and you not getting paid a fiver is that the phone company can take you to court for non-payment of your utilities, a contract you entered into with them when your line was installed, which you would effectively breech.
What you do in the States is illegal, you couldn't get as far as small claims court if you were really serious in taking it further. A Judge Judy lookalike would rip you to shreds.

But by all means, go ahead and sulk over 5 dollars. You're amazing.

Five dollars, that's what - three pound fifty?

I would have just said "that's ok" and let it go.  It's too small an amount to bother about or to risk him going away and not returning if you'd asked him to go get the extra $5

and that applies to your situation how?

in your example your are the buyer, its up to said phone company to chase you.

in your first post you were the seller, its up to you to chase the short payment

Forget the scientific, legal b.s. Its the same concept. Lets forget documents and legal jibberish even exists. If 5 bucks isnt a big issue for me, then neither should it for bills, to get into a nightclub, and paying for food. Hey, lets short everyone by 5 bucks to get by  :D

Eurgh, I was once shorted by WAY more than three pound fifty. The guy made me come with him to a cashpoint so he could pay me the rest of my fee, faffed about for ten minutes and then revealed that he couldn't take anymore money out. It was a 2 hour booking and he was a hard-work guy (no rest for the wicked!) and I had really bad jaw-ache and my taxi was waiting. So I just sighed because I wanted to go home and he'd spent AGES earlier telling me about his omg-so-amazing job in finance and to be honest, I kind of just wanted to giggle rather than get angry with him. Silly man. I went home and tipped the taxi driver lots.

I felt calm and full of acceptance for the small irritations of life. Joey, I recommend maybe thinking deeply or even meditating next time something silly happens to you. Then you won't have to post about it. :P

Also, tip lots! It makes me feel like a right samaritan.

Also... is your fee $xx5? As in, it ends with a 5? Have you thought about having a nice round number instead? My rent ends with a 5 and I'm always frantic at the end of the month looking for a goddamn five pound note. (I deposit cash because I never plan ahead to leave enough in my account and then go overdrawn & get fined etc.) Anyway, it's a right pain!

Exactly, basically just think it out and build my own conclusion. By the way, I've done that before. Had followed some guy down to the bank at past midnight to give me an extra 20...that was before the days of making sure all the cash is still there.

Nope, never. I always thought that would be strange. Mine ends with an even number (0) so no mistake there. I have seen others with fees ending is 5 but I do understand some have a hard enough time getting it out the atm (unless you're doing something like a blow job for $75 lol) then that usually works out.
