Title: What make up brands do you recommend for work?
Post by: Laura MacKenzie on 17 September 2010, 01:43:25 pm
The quest of every woman! I'm sick of looking, hmph!

So what's your favourite foundation?

Especially interested in anyone else with rediculously pale, rather dry skin with blemishes, impossible.

With the way my bookings have gone lately, the perfect foundation tastes disgusting so you don't get it all licked/sucked off your face!!

Seriously though, I'm pretty pale, skin can be a bit dry and prone to spots/blemishes, so I use Mac's select spf 15 foundation in NC15
maccosmetics.co.uk/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT21853&PRODUCT_ID=PROD66152
Pricey, but so worth it!
I usually finish it off with Urban Decay Razor Sharp Ultra Definition Finishing Powder too, just to make the foundation set and at least attempt to last a bit longer.

Bobbi Brown makes excellent foundations with wonderful colors; I prefer her cream stick for its convenience,  but my personal faves are Bare Minerals (powder) and MakeUp Forever Mat Velvet (liquid). Beeeeeautiful coverage w/ the MUFE and it doesn't clog pores.

Bare Minerals is my favorite to wear daily b/c it's sooo gentle on the skin and makes you look like you're not wearing makeup at all. :)

I hear Jane Iredale makes a great mineral foundation, too.

Nicola from girls aloud has just launched her own brand of makeup called Dainty Doll and it is specifically for fair skinned women like herself.
There are few different shades of paleness and she designed it for women with blemishes too.
Friends who use it who are pale have said it has been the best product they have ever tried x

I agree about the minerals (mentioned above!) but I get mine from Lilylolo.co.uk cos they're cheaper and yes, get licked off a lot. As long as you've got a nice kabuki brush you can buff the powders in amazingly and it does look really flawless. It can be worthwhile to have a great concealer to use underneath just in case of blemishes (there's a cheap liquid minerals Maybelline one that is brilliant) but minerals are go gentle that I've slept in them tons of times without repercussions. Good for hot dates that you don't want to get skin-naked in front of just yet. :D

(I've actually had clients try to lick off my deodorant before, too. Does this stuff taste completely different to men?!)

I am quite pale ,mix skin type with big pores. When I wear make-up I use Kanebo Sensai smoothig water make up-base.Bit expensive, but don't need to use much and doesn't feel too special when applying, but in a while it makes my skin really smooth, could call it magic. On top I use very thin layer of  Bare minerals powder foundation.

Does anyone know where you can buy this apart from Harrods? I've had a bit of a google round and can't find anywhere that stocks it apart from ASOS and I'd rather try it out first.

I don't really like wearing foundation but I have some of the Barbara Daly Tesco stuff in Porcelain knocking round for emergencies - it's really good and not too expensive plus you can get it in an oil-free version as well.

I have exactly the same skin type, its shockingly awful  :o

The best foundation would be MAC's studio sculpt foundation, they can colour match you. It's a moisturising, medium (but buildable) coverage foundation which I believe is oil free. Alternatively you could try clinique's  anti blemish foundation, I'm finding that really good at the moment, it doesn't dry me out or make my skin worse :) If you are looking for a flawless airbrushed finish I would recommend investing in a spakling brush- they are simply amazing- but make sure you clean it regularly.

I also heard that mineral foundations are supposed to be good for the skin, I used smashbox halo effect powder before which was just gorgeous, but like Emily said you will probably need quite a good concealer.

Also Nars make a foundation called Sheer glow that I think would be good for your skin type too. Bourjois also have a foundation called healthy mix which is actually quite good for the price and smells like apricots :) (maybe you could try the concealer if you went for the mineral make up?)

I heard about dainty doll, apparently its a bit rubbish, and some of the foundations come up a little too much on the pink side.

I used to have really oily, patchy, spotty skin (nice!).  I still get the odd break out - but nowhere near as bad or as frequently.

I use ID Bare Escentuals bareMinerals make up.  At first I just used the foundation, but when I told my local beauty parlour I didn't like it, they gave me some tips.
1. To soak up any excess oil/sweat etc.  use a dusting of the Mineral Veil over your face. Apply with Flawless Face brush.  I've been using mine for years and have just bought a buki brush instead.  They both have big natural fibre heads to them.
2. To conceal spots/veins **This also works on my birthmarks** use the Mineral Foundation (I use fairly light), but apply with the 'Max Coverage Concealer' brush.  Apparently it has different bristles (synthetic) so applies the make up more densely.  You wouldn't even know I had a birthmark!!!
3.  Apply the same Mineral Foundation to your whole face but with your Flawless Face or Buki brush.  You can build this up little by little, but as the main flaws have already been covered with the concealer brush, you don't need much more.
4. Apply another dusting of Mineral Veil to set the make up.

This method really works for me and when I first tried it everyone said how well I looked.  I think they are used to me now!

I might try the Lilylolo.co.uk stuff Emily mentioned as Escentuals is quite expensive for me at the mo.  I've found the tools are as important as the make up itself.
Hope this helps!

I am using clinques anti blemish foundation at the moment which works by gently exfolioating the skin while you wear the make up so not only is it preventing blemishes but generally improving skin condition. The only down sides I have to it are I am having to mix it with a little moisturiser as I find it too matt and tricky to apply fast enough before it drys.

Hey you can stop this happening, by simply putting foundation on your hand and then applying  and blending each section as you go using a foundation brush/spakling brush/sponge. I would also advise using a foundation primer because it will go on alot easier and stay on longer  :) Smashbox do one called photofinish that is probably the best one by far, but most brands do one.

I'll need to try some of these!

Dainty doll I've heard is a bit pants and is pretty expensive.

I used to love Mac Studio Fix but it dries my skin out, I just finished a bottle of their mineral one, but it doesn't give much coverage and the lightest shade (NC15) is just a little too dark for me.

Never used to use them but primers are great! I love Mac's primer, quite expensive but definetely worth it and lasts ages.

Also really reconmend keihls creme d'elegance repairateur for anyone with dry skin, it is expensive but lasts forever, my current tub I got 3 weeks ago, use it twice a day, and i'm barely off the top!

Just got L'oreal infaliable long lasting, which i haven't used in years. Probably the lightest shade available on the high street. Doesn't dry the skin out, great coverage and stays on great.

Need to try some more mineral foundations but just don't like buying them off the internet!

Lilylolo.co.uk do tester pots - about a quid each for a little packet of the mineral foundations, blushes, and some other products.

(And no, they aren't paying me to blab on about them, I promise. ;D I just think they're good value for minerals, and minerals generally have been the only type of foundation I've personally found to be easy to apply, natural-looking, long-lasting, super-gentle even if slept in, and so on. You can find good makeup reviews on YouTube, too, by the way!)

Meh, I don't loveeeee make up. I'm just considering buying non-white foundation and powder for the first time because I think perhaps it would be worth wearing when I'm performing.

I like collecting bright fancy eye shadows though. Lime Crime (http://www.limecrimemakeup.com/) is very nice, and I've got my eye on Sugar Pill (http://www.sugarpillshop.com/collections/shop). Eyeshadow primer makes the colours go on strong and stay there. Urban Decay is the only one I've used, and it works a treat.

Oh, and gel eyeliner is a must have if you ever want dramatic lines. The MAC one is popular, but I got the cheaper Sleek option, which is everything I wanted. It doesn't smudge or crack or anything (though I'm not sure if I've put it to the sex test). You need a good eyeliner brush though. I use Ecotools angled eyeliner brush or Urban Decay wonder brush.

Lancome double wear... not heavy unless you would like it to be... I get compliments all the time from ladies... not so long ago I applied some on a neighbour who has skin irritation etc... was fine and she looked sooo much better than the powder she used.... I think it was Mac and something else... No.7 is lighter than Lancome... but I find Lancome better on me.

;-)

For years now I have been wearing Lancome foundation.  Yesterday I saw some Rimmel 25 hour foundation on offer in Boots and thought I'd give it a try. Amazing stuff and at ?4.99 it's about ?27 cheaper than the Lancome stuff!
I find Rimmel nail varnish by far the best too.  I get lipsticks from Mac but also use  Lip Finity (Max factor) as it doesn't come off on clients. Fave eyeshadow  Mac and  Bourjois and the last mascara I bought was YSL, which is supposed not to smudge but they lied! Prefer Number 7.
I don't wear much make up but am quite fussy and I don't find that paying loads guarantees better quality by any means.

I like the superdrug MUA, ?1 each lol I think i grab a bit every time I go in lol the eyeliners rubbish but the nail polish and eyepowder is good, glitter eyeliner etc  ;D

i think for every bit of make up i use i get each bit from a different brand lol

BarryM rocks

Oh, Lipfinity (and similar things by other brands) are amazing if you want to wear glitter on your lips. Just dab it on while it's half dry and you have total sparkle all night. Finding fine red glitter is a bit of a challenge, though.

I don't recommend it with clients though. Sorry for just going on about silly special occasion make up, but it's the only sort that interest me.

For foundation I always wear Dior Forever. It's gorgeous! I've been wearing that for 2 years now. My eyeshadows are pretty much all MAC and Dior, lipsticks/glosses are MAC, Dior and L'ancome. Blush is MAC or Dior...

It's all pretty expensive BUT by far the best brands I've ever worn. High quality, staying power and amazing colours.....

I used to treat myself to a MAC makeover once a month at Debenhams. ?25 to get your makeup done (I always chose an exaggerated OTT look, lol) and at the end of it you get your ?25 back to spend on MAC products.  :P

Benefit. I love it. I adore all make up but Benefit is my favourite, especially their powders, enhancers and cheats. I love the packaging and the names, but the best thing is the products actually work. For colour I love Mac and Nars, and as a budget option I rate No. 7 highly. The Strictly range is surprising good for very strong colours too.
A good set for brushes is as important, if not more so, than the products. For me it's Mac all the way.

My favourite eye liner crayon is Benefit BadGal liner Waterproof as it's got the smudge sponge at the other end. It goes on really easily and doesn't budge. It's also available in 2 new colours. I should so work for Benefit LOL.

Guerlain and Nars are my all time favourites.. Guerlain especially is quite expensive but in my opinion its worth it! My mascara is always Diorshow Blackout and I have some very pretty eyeshadow palettes by Dior  but I dont find them very good value.
I have an obsession with lip glosses and my current favourite is a very shiny one by YSL. I think the shade is called Golden Satin. It stays on forever! Every time I go to Boots I have to buy a cheap lipgloss by No7 or Rimmel, the shades look always so beautiful and glittery (I do like my glitter..) but I hate that they are so sticky! Very nice on a windy day with my long hair.  ::)

For eyeshadow I don't think you can beat Benefit and Mac, great colours, blends well and stays on forever.

Rimmel liquid eyeliner is am zing, if you put it on in April you could probably still be wearing it in June if you didn't take it off :D Rimmel also do a great range of lipstick colours. For pencil liner again you can't beat Benefit (IMO)  but I also find Collection 2000 liners really good.

Boots no 7 is a good option if your on a bit of a budget as well, I really like the face powder (but love clinique if I'm feeling flush)

For mascara I don't think you can beat L'oreal (all of their mascaras are good). I find a lot of mascaras by other brands don't give enough length, even the more expensive ones.

I always use Clinique/ Estee Lauder  foundation as you tend to only need a bit and it lasts forever.

With regards nail varnish I've never had any that didn't chip within a day or 2 (I must have rubbish nails? ???) so I don't bother with expensive brands, Boots 17 do some really fab nail varnish colours.

Oh make up, how I love thee, I swear my heartrate gains an extra 20 beats per minute whenever I see the Benefit counter ;D

Oh and I can also really recommend the Mac makeovers Krystal mentioned. I've never had one but my friend did for her birthday recently and she looked amazing afterwards, I'm definately going to give it a go next time I have a special occasion coming up!

Another vote for Benefit - I don't really wear makeup for working in, but I love BadGal mascara, Posietint and the mattifying stuff (Dr Feelgood, I think) as well as the tinted lip balm. For coloured stuff I like MAC too, but my all-time favourite for eyeshadows and so on is Shu Uemura as the stuff lasts forever, and the skincare oils are fab too.

Budgetwise, I've used Rimmel's 'Hide the Blemish' cover sticks for upwards of twenty five years (the first one I ever remember buying was 69p and the last one was ?4.99) and the only foundation I own (in case of dog days) is the Barbara Daly one from Tesco in Porcelain - it's brilliant and the only one I've ever found that was pale enough without having a funny-coloured tint to it. And the Accessorize nail polishes (you can get them in Superdrug) are dirt cheap and last ages, although I only use colour on my toenails.

I just get any mascara really, have found them all to be similar.

Bourjois Liner Effect mascara is the only one I've ever found to work serious magic on my lashes. I now buy at least two tubes whenever I see it in Boots, but I'm worried they're going to stop selling it soon cos there's no reason for it to be so fantastic! It took maybe a wear or two to figure out how to get it on right but now I never wear anything else.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but I swear by Benetint. I don't like wearing lipstick with clients so this is a great way to colour my lips without getting it all over the client :) It works on your cheeks too and gives a really nice healthy looking glow.

For shadows I love Sleek (at superdrug).  Very pigmented, long wearing and super affordable.  The palettes are great as are the lose shadows - much better than the barry M stuff.  They also do a gel liner.   I took my collection of Sleek eyemake up to a shoot once and the MUA commented on how good they were

Foundation - mineral from this place on eBay, liquid I use Barbara Daly at Tesco as it's the only thing I find on the HS in the right colour; if I'm feeling flash then Clarins or Lancome

Mascara - maybelline, the big yellow one

GOSH at Superdrug for concealer and primer

ME ME ME at Superdrug for concealer (they have very pale one) and highlighter, and a cheap version of Benetint

OPI or Chanel for nails.

Which shade do you fellow ghosts use from Barbara daly? Ive never seen it in my tesco :( but you can buy it online.

The only foundation my shade I can find is loreal infallible, unfortunately it's too dark to cover blemishes on my body!

Eyeshadows I love gosh and those 99p ones from superdrug are great too.
Make up brushes, gosh are great.
With mascara I'm using a bloom waterproof one as a base (and let it dry before using a crazier one so my lashes dont clump) or just day to day then either a blue loreal one I can't remember the name of for work, which is waterproof and gives great length or loreal volume million lashes in extra black for crazy volume.

I use the Moisture Foundation in Porcelain - the same colours come in an oil free version too. I did hear rumours about it being discontinued, and last time I was getting some in Tesco there were only three bottles left and I bought them all just in case (I only really use a bit around my nose and on my chin if it looks uneven, so they ought to last awhile).

I'd forgotten about a Bourjois mascara I used to love - I can't remember the name but it had a white layer at one end which was like Tippex and you put that on first, then a black lashbuilding one on top. It made me look like a drag queen but it was fab (I think it was called Theatre something :D).

Me too - the big eye pencil looks good as well but I don't wear it. My lipbalm is the Benetint one but I was never fast enough with the liquid stuff - Posietint gives you a bit more room to manoeuvre and is that bit paler so it suits me better. I have some of that Lipcote stuff knocking about somewhere which you varnish your lippie one on with but it just made my lips sore so I don't use it. Pity as it's supposed to really work - I think the Benefit one's called She Laq.

If you have trouble getting a colour match you might want to look into the many indie mineral makeup brands on ebay and etsy. They tend to have small cheap samples available so you can get a few for a couple of quid, and they're mixable. You should also be able to get pure white foundation and concealer even if they don't mention it as an option, since they'll use it as an ingredient unless they only make products for dark skin. I got some samples from Funky Fresh (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/funky-fresh-natural-skincare), who has a "fairest skin" sample kit and was also happy to do a custom kit for me.

I love Bare Mineral foundation - gives a lovely finish. Most of the rest of my make up is Mac. Benefit does this lovely half and half lipgloss and mascara. The lipgloss is a pinky nudy colour and the mascara is a sparkly blue which looks great as an eye liner.

Mac eye pencil in 'Tarnish' is my favourite ever eye liner. It's a gorgeous shimmery bottle green and looks more dramatic, yet not as harsh as black eye liner.

Also, not strictly make up but Herbal Essences 'Smooth and Soft' shampoo and conditioner is the best I've ever used. My hair is past my hips, thick and frizzy and this stuff has tamed it beyond belief. Easier to detangle and blow-dry  ;D

Anika Mae, Hi sorry to make my first post a reply to this, I have been following for about a month, and loving the forum and Saafe site, anyway, re:above, I have been trying to find fine red glitter suitable for lips for the past week, have you any recommendations please, I only need a little I want a one time use, but would happily purchase more than needed if I could find the stuff!

Thanks :D

Hi Belle and welcome  :)

I thought I might like some fine red glitter too, and I found this (http://www.handyhippo.co.uk/p1964-ultra-fine-glitter-red-rose.html) (and they're on 5 for 4, so you could get a few different ones to try out - the colours look fab). My order's already sent, but then internet shopping was made for people like me  :D.

I found it on the Tesco Direct site here (http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-5282.aspx). The rumour I remember was something about the brand getting bought out by Rimmel, but it was a while ago and nothing much seems to have changed so I wouldn't worry. I just panicked in case it ran out because it really is the only one I've had any luck with.

Amy's link looks good, but if you're not sure about using craft glitter (I wouldn't worry about it for a single use, actually it only just occurred to me that it could be an issue) Paris Berlin do a red one that's fine enough for lips. I got it from performerszone.com, but I think the shipping's not worth it for very small orders.

I didn't think of it causing problems either (although I checked it was non-toxic), but I agree - I think provided you're not eating spoonfuls of the stuff and it's just now and again it ought to be OK. I wouldn't put it anywhere near my eyes though.

Amy, I'm thinking of using the glitter for a photoshoot, have you any tips for application e.g lipstick, then glitter, then gloss to seal or something similar? I have some good ideas, however I'm not so great with the practicalities of these things  ::)

It's really Anika's department, not mine but she mentioned Lipfinity in an earlier post which I'm guessing is gluey stuff; you need something on that the glitter will stick to, and I doubt lipstick alone would do it. From memory of doing something similar years ago, I think it's probably best put on with a damp brush and then sealed with something like Lipcote - that was my plan anyway  :).
Title: Re: What make up brands do you recommend for work?
Post by: Anika Mae on 10 April 2011, 11:58:40 am
Lipfinity is a type of long-wearing lipstick that dries like paint, so it won't fade or smudge unless you get something on it that dissolves it (oils, other lipsticks/balms, and some lubes). Because it's like paint it feels dry, so it comes with a clear top coat. Lipfinity is the original Max Factor one, but other brands do versions of it. The Maybeline one is good.

Anyway, for glitter I apply lipfinity and wait maybe a minute so I don't smudge it, then press the glitter on with my finger. That's it. I don't use the top coat or anything else, and it stays on until I give it a good scrub with some oil. This (http://allgirltogaparty.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/IMG_3833-copy.jpg) is lipfinity plus glitter.

I remember seening a lipstick called ruby red on the manic panic site that's a clear base with red glitter. They have some of the most interesting color choices on there and a set of pressed powders that are great for really pale people.

Does anyone else use lipstain? I love it, you can get really strong color from it and it stays on all day without drying your lips out. You can go outside the lines of you lips a bit too, to change the shape and it's not noticible at all. No idea which brands sell it here though unfortunately.

I absolutely adore lip stain. I bought borjois ones  about 18 months ago but I they must have discontinued them because I never see them anymore.  They were fab little pots of inky stuff with an applictor that you dab on the lips. I had a gorgeous coral colour and a  dark fuschia pink. You can layer them for bright colour like a felt tip pen or use them lightly as a long lasting tint that looks really natural. If anyone finds them, let me know!!

I think Max factor have one out now, I am pretty sure I saw a TV  ad which got my very excited! I am going to hunt it down at the weekend xx

A few of my lip stains are from cover girl and I have one from maybelline that is my favorite. It's a nice bright cherry red, all of them are made like felt tipped markers so they're really easy to put on. I don't know if you can get those brands here or not but I hope that helps.

Mudd Minerals (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MuddMinerals?_trksid=p4340.l2563) are a very interesting make-up option I've discovered recently. The cosmetics are made manually and individually for each order by a nice lady who sells them on eBay. She says they're completely natural and she only uses quality mineral pigments and organic oils. No chemicals, parabens, petrochemicals or animal derivatives. They're vegan, which matters to me.

My personal experience: I ordered several items from her on eBay and received my order two days ago and I can tell they really are good! The mascara feels very light, non-sticky on the lashes and non-irritating to my eyes, while giving the result I want. Long lasting, yet very easy to take off. The pearl eye shadow looks just as good the expensive luxury brand ones, even better. I noticed it also looks good my body skin to make it discreetly pearly. The lip gloss is as she says, dense in pigment, and stays on my lips, but, again, if I want to take it off I can do so easily, it doesn't have the tatoo effect I've experienced with mainstream brand lipsticks.

I'm  definitely going to order more from her. Sorry if you think my post sounds like an advert, but I'm just so pleased with these cosmetics that I want to share my enthusiasm about them with you.

Benefit Lemon Aid http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Benefit_Lemon_Aid__5318446 (http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Benefit_Lemon_Aid__5318446).  I ran out recently and, as it is fairly expensive, left it for a couple of weeks.  When I bought and applied some yesterday I vowed never to be without it again.  Even if you don't wear any make up on top, say on the beach or something, it makes SUCH a difference.  My partner actually noticed and then mumbled something about trying it himself.  TLDR - makes you look fresh faced and awake, no matter what. 8) ->  ;)

For glittery lips I've got a lipstick by YSL, it's clear with very, very fine glitter mixed in.  You just dab it on over your base lipstick, pencil, whatever.

I've got one by BarryM in silver as well but it's rubbish.

I must admit that I am a make up junky.  I don't actually wear a lot (at a time), but I love variety.  I like to search out new stuff all the time.

I use a lot of Max Factor foundations for different coverage as it's the only brand I have found that has the right colour for my skin now that Presciptives has been discontinued.

I love Mac for lipstick, especially the matt ones.  Also Dior, Chanel, Rimmel, L'Oreal.  All the brands actually.

My problem is I have very oily skin and have a nightmare with eyeshadow staying put so tend to stick to the matt ones.  I like Mac, Dior, Nars, Estee Lauder.

I must be the only person in the world that doesn't like mineral make up, when I look in the mirror I just feel like I can see it from a mile off (probably because they all seem to be too pink or too dark for me).

If there is a theatrical make up shop near you it is well worth a visit, that make up does not budge.

And for me no trip to London is complete without a visit to SpaceNK and the Mac professional shop.  You know how most kids always want to own a sweet shop?  Well now that I'm a grown up I want a make up shop ;D

MASCARA let's face it we are always bombarded with ads claiming miracles! (Then in small print because they are required by law using the phrase "lash inserts were used"!) Well only one to me has lived up to its repuatation.
Rimmel - Lash Accelerator

I second this! Just got it and  I love it. And way cheaper than dior one I used to get.

Thanks Aneka Mae, I'll try the Lime Crime.  I've tried the other two and the Mac one and I think I need something very heavy duty!

Oh and if anyone wants naturally longer lashs Rapid Lash from Boots works wonders.  I cannot praise it enough.  It is expensive ?40 a tube, but it lasts ages, I bought mine in June last year and it's still going.  You brush it on like eyeliner and you have longer lashes within a month.  You can actually see that I have lashes now, even without Mascara.

I'm not a one to remember to top up my lippy but like yourself I go more for a darker red.  Scarlet red screams out 'cheap tart'. Sorry if it sounds offensive but it is just my opinion.

Guys do like lipstick for what reasons I do not know and if I'm honest not really interested in.

Bright read lipstick is ok indoor, but would be too indiscreet in public, screaming "WHOOOOOREEEE!" 500 m behind you.  ;D I use lip pencils not just to line lips but also for filling. Than I tap with paper handkerchief and sometimes repeat the procedure for longer effect. Last layer is colourless lip gloss.

Red or dark lipstick don't suit me :( i wish they did, as I think they are sexy, but my lips and face don't go well with dark colours. I wear baby pink/ nude/ transparent/ nude-orange and it looks really good on me.
I once saw a client who wanted 'make up fetish'. He brought a whole lot of brand new stuff like dark lipstick, fake eyelashes, black liquid eyeliner, black eyeshadow, but except for the liner, I never got to use it again...
I do wear perfume, the guys seem to love to smell of you, once they've left. I mainly do daytime/ early evening appointments, or outcalls to hotels, so hopefully i haven't done any serious harm because of my perfume. Also, if someone asks me not to wear perfume i am more than happy not to. Those guys usually are very clever/ sneaky with their hobby, so they plan and book in advance, and I am prepared to be 'scent free' :P

I love red lipstick.  You rarely see me without it.  I'll make sure I'm wearing it before I leave the house (you never know who'll you'll bump into out and about).  I know some of you say it can look tarty and screams whore, but IMO if you wear it right it can look elegant and glamorous (think retro or 1930-50's).  but I'm more than happy to be a total slut in the bedroom or at a fetish club  ;)

I usually wear a stain, as it doesn't transfer onto clients.  I like a deep blood red lip but for me it's a "look, don't touch!" look as as soon as you start kissing it goes all over the place and can end up looking a bit...hmmm.

My lips are so pink that I actually have to wear a browny-orange stain to get a reddish over-all effect.  And a brown-red lipstick to work out a nice deep blood red; when I wear a regular red it comes out looking dark pink!  Took a while to work that one out....

I love lipstick - it's usually a pink colour for me... I have so many nudey pink lipsticks or punchy pink! I rarely wear red, it doesn't really work with my look.. however I have used Revlons lip butter in Cherry tart - less severe on me as it's more of a pigmented balm.

need some decent SMUDGE PROOF eye make up! im getting fed up of every eyeliner and mascara i use making me look like a panda, even after a gentle lil half hour in the sack! - also under eye concealers? i try them all, touche eclat etc and most recently have bough the garnier caffeine roll on concealer to no avail.

i usually use max factor and maybelline. anyone got any make up they swear by which is super duper water and smudge proof?

I had extentions when I used to be able to afford them and they last three weeks. I loved them.

to stop my eyeliner from smearing, I wear a silicon sealant underbase on my eyes: a primer. I find urban decay's potion to be incredibly good. I used to be able to go out dancing for hours, come home, pass out, wake up and everything would still be close to perfect if I didn't rub my eyes in the night.

I love estee lauder sumptous waterproof mascara, it's my holy grail mascara and I've tried everything out there. I currently use a l'oreal liquid eyeliner, but my favorite is Urban Decay 24 hour liner, it never budges. Under eye concealer I don't use as it makes it look like I have fine lines around my eyes. Instead I use a decent eye gel and make sure I get my beauty sleep to avoid the dark circles in the first place.

Benefit's waterproof eyeliner is very good. I brush a little translucent powder over the top to set it, just to make sure. It'll stay on for ages that way. Their new best-selling mascara (I think it's called 'Are those real?' or something equally stupid) is also quite good, and stays put really well. It certainly doesn't flake off -- I think the formula is a gel and designed not to come off in clumps like some mascaras.

I love this stiff. Brilliant. As to smearing mascara, if you don' t want to make the commitment or the expense of lash extensions, you can use false eye lashes. I swear by mine. I have them in different lengths for work and or everyday. Mind you, my natural lashes are long, but they will never be as long as the false ones.

Clinique waterproof mascara is definitely that.... Doesn't even come off with eye make up remover!! Goes flakey and horrible tho after about 4 hours so I would AVOID all clinique make up. I'd go with dying your eyelashes. I would but I only wear eye make up for "work" and like the natural look on my days off. I really liked the Natural collections waterproof mascara at boots, although currently using Asda max volume stuff.... Not bad for ?1.50!

Best foundation/concealer I've ever used was No 7 moisturising base layer.

As for lippy (I know not in original question).... I bought some Maybelline 24hr lip stain/gloss about a week ago... that does NOT come off!! Saw three clients and it didn't budge! Takes industrial-strength make-up remover to get off though...

PLEASE beware and get skin test first..i had a really really bad reaction to my eyebrows being dyed.
the women just did without me realising..
there was a watery substance seeping out of them my eyes puffed up,i looked hidious.

i would never have allowed her to dye them,if i had known,i went for eyebrow wax and she just went ahead and did it (to be nice)my eyebrows are still thinner..

i have actually sued a hairdressers for giving me a very bad hair dye job,my hair broke off and my face puffed up,like i had been in a fight.they left it on way to long..
hence why i couldnt sue the next place,as the claims still on going,i deserve compensation..
i couldnt work for a month and was in sheer agony,my whole scalp was burnt..
get a test even if you have dyed your hair eyelashes eyebrows previously.
i HAD been dying my hair years..

Clinique waterproof mascara is definitely that.... Doesn't even come off with eye make up remover!! Goes flakey and horrible tho after about 4 hours so I would AVOID all clinique make up.

I use that Clinique mascara... in fact my whole make up bag is Clinique.  I used to have a mish-mash of different brands but with a change to some meds my skin has become incredibly sensitive and find that Clinique doesn't give me as much bother as some others.

I don't get that flakiness though and it makes my lashes look super long (they already are long but it seems to add more 'wow' to them).  The mascara does come off easily but only with warm water, even though it withstands tears!

Maybe it's because I run a tissue along my lashes to remove any excess that it doesn't flake, but personally I'd recommend it.

As for eyeliner, I've found that within an hour of applying any I get smudges even when I'm not working - though I have used a 24 hour felt tip eyeliner in the past which really does last all day, but haven't used it for work as I generally don't bother with it so can't let you know from any experience if it would withstand the job.

I use Urban Decay liquid eyeliner and that can withstand anything.  :D

I've always been crap at using liquid eyeliner!  Have just had a look at the Urban Decay website as I've never used their products and must say I'm tempted to get a few of their products.

hi all,

need some decent SMUDGE PROOF eye make up! im getting fed up of every eyeliner and mascara i use making me look like a panda, even after a gentle lil half hour in the sack! - also under eye concealers? i try them all, touche eclat etc and most recently have bough the garnier caffeine roll on concealer to no avail.

i usually use max factor and maybelline. anyone got any make up they swear by which is super duper water and smudge proof?

Clinique eye liner is good

seriously, use primer first. it's like setting your make up into a wall. It won't smudge.

Hey, personally I like to use Clinique waterproof make up (mascara and eyeliner)... when I had clients in the sauna, I didnt wear waterproof makeup stupidly, and came away looking like a panda!  ;D

Also, Benefit's "Erase Paste" concealer is amazing for under eyes if you do get a bit of a smudge :)

I'm going to try that clear mascara, thank you.  There's something similar on the cult beauty website but I haven't tried it yet, it's a lot cheaper, it's called mascara top coat.

For eyeliner I use Rimmel matt black eyeshadow, and use a wet eyeliner brush to use it as a liquid eyeliner.  Kind of like painting it on.  It does not budge.  And I like the Urban decay eye primer, the MAC one is rubbish.  Too faced do three different ones, I may try one next time I have enough boots points.

I tried the Benefit Mascara, I went and bought it at the weekend but I still ended up with panda eyes on Monday.  Estee Lauder used to do a brilliant one years ago called weatherproof mascara, it did not budge, but they discontinued it.  I always find myself comparing every mascara I buy to that and they just don't match up :(

There is a new line out called "MUA" which i find smudge proof and really good. Mascara still body shop and no smudging. I use high beam for my eyes and cheeckbones.

Anybody recommend something really good for dark under eye rings please, i have extremely sensitive skin and only use Lancome visionair as a moisturiser which is perfect.

I tend to wear red or pink, even outdoors  :o

Same here haha I love my bright red lipstick :)
I used to think it was a little tarty but with my dark hair and pale skin I find it compliments me more than other shades. I despise lipgloss far too messy
I wear all the time funny enough though only been asked to keep it on once during a booking (I always take it off during the booking I hate it all over my face)

When I'm working I wear a neutral pinky brown lipstick and I always wear perfume. Clients are welcome to shower before they leave so I dont see any reason not to. I also have to say I dont feel very feminine unless I'm wearing a nice smell.

My 'working' perfumes are completely separate to my 'personal' one though - when I'm working I'll wear whatever Clients give me but privately I only ever wear the one my OH gives me :)

But occasionally I will get the odd request for red lipstick. I have a lovely one from Sleek, called Vixen, and I apply a gloss over it. Very nice in smoking fetish sessions.

I wear a berry shade of lipstain pen, with clear gloss over the top for working.

Red lippy is a funny one, it definitely suits me as I have very dark long hair and olive skin, so not too vampy. BUT there is something about me, that if I wear it I do look slutty. I have no idea why though, but it just looks 'obvious' on me personally.

Those apocalips lip glosses by rimmel are great! Highly pigmented and last a long time plus you can build up the colour or tone it down :)

I bought an Urban Decay one in Sephora called Naked Skin (I'm always so impressed to find one that's both pale enough and lightweight enough for me I buy it anyway) which is a fragrance/paraben free liquid foundation in a pump bottle and the finish is amazing.

It's not cheap but it goes a really long way and it doesn't seem to cake or smear at all (not that I've worn any makeup for weeks as I've had a month off, so I can't vouch for it in the heat :)).

I did some new pictures a couple of months ago & in some I wore red lipstick. This was only because it went with what I was wearing. Now I am constantly being requested to wear it for appointments. Hence I am now constantly explaining to people that it isn't like in the movies, there is no kiss proof red lippy that won't inevitably end up smeared all over both our lower faces, & any other body part my mouth comes into contact with (hmm). Not being totally na?ve I ask unless this is a fetish or part of the fun, they then reply like they never asked or just don't get back to me??

I think I ought to have this under my fetish services or just remove the pictures, lol!

My preferred lippy choice is a light peach or coral as I have a cool skin tone.

So what is it with red lippy? Is it the fetish word that scares them off or what?

Slight rant!

I don't wear red lippy during work for this exact reason but if I am wearing it on a nite out or something, I have 2 different ones, both from MAC.

I use MAC RED which would defo smudge cause it has a sheen to it but is a gorg colour.

And I use Rooby Roo from MAC which is a matte lippy that doesn't smudge which is nice too.

Do you ever get asked to wear a particular colour lipstick ? I seem to be forever in dark red lipstick; is that popular with youre clients too?.
They love it on their cocksduring  bj  and when i kiss! feel naked without it sometimes!!
would like to know youre preferences too.

For the perfect red lipstick shade I agree with PP and I only wear RUBY WOO by Mac. Its fantastic and it has been designed to flatter any shade so you coukd be as dark as Alex Wek or as fair as Lilly Cole and it looks great.

However I stopped wearing it it out and about as the attention I got from it was just crazy!!! So it is fashionable again to wear red lipstick day to day but yes certain men will see as 'sex kitten'  ::)

Always, unless they specify a bare faced look.

As I work more as a pro-sub than as a 'traditional' escort, red lipstick is great because it smears well with smacks and tears.

I find any of the MAC colours (Ruby Woo and Russian Red, especially) work, with good matte coverage. Cherry lipliner if I want a bright red, and Moss liner if I want a more plummy colour. I top it with Lipcote and I'm game for a few hours. A hard throat fuck with a toy or tears/spit will move it, and I always bring extra because I often get asked to top up.

Bright red lipstick is favoured by me as it stands out well against my complexion.

Yes French girl you are right if you dont want the lipstick to smudge or move then apply a lipstick stay. It is like a varnish you apply over the lipstick  ;)

I wear Benefit red lipstick, the one in the black tube. It looks amazing, is easy to put on, his a solid gel constancy so good if you are not  wanting hipline bleed and best of all, once you have had your hello snog its licked straight off but leaves your lips stained a besting red so you won't then get it on his clothes.

I'm not a one to remember to top up my lippy but like yourself I go more for a darker red. Scarlet red screams out 'cheap tart'. Sorry if it sounds offensive but it is just my opinion.

And thats what Ive worn since been 14yr old !!

No offence taken :) . I love the pale skin /black hair/red lips thing AKA Dita Von Teese . Some do look cheap ( imo) when the tone isnt right ,eg- orange toned reds on pale skin - yuk.  The darker reds are more wearable.

I hate it getting messy though , the maybelline 24hr coulorstay lipstick is a godsend.

Ooo Im going to go and hunt some of that benetint down, when I was younger I could pull off the rich lipsticks but not that I'm older I find  they just make me look like mutton dressed up as something trying to resemble lamb. Not a good look. I dab my make up brush into vaseline then scrape off the excess before dabbing it in my eyeshadow and it goes on like the best gel eyeshadow in existence, gives a nice soft dewey fresh eyed look whereas the powder can  makes my look dried out I think. Buggers up your brushes but it gives a fabulous professional touch to your make up. I don't buy the gel eyeshadows anymore as they tend to dry out before I have even got half the tiny pot used, this way is far more money friendly?and middle aged chloe friendly x

I always have my eyes pretty made up with black eyeliner and a flick at the sides and false eyelashes regardless of what make up I wear but today I had on MAC NC42 foundation and MAC Style blush with MAC Ruby Woo lippy and Cherry liner so all warm tones which is something I would usually wear on a nite out with a black dress or something, don't know why I felt like wearing it today but my clients really liked it.

On a nite out I would have my eyes heavy made up with dark eye shadow too but when I am working I just use a neutral colour and lately to work I have been using MAC Coral Bliss lippy which is a warm shade too which is nice.

I don't suit cool tones unless I have no tan.

I'm a Ruby Woo fan too, and I also like the Besame vintage-type red lippies that come in little pots. I don't really wear makeup for work unless I'm asked, but I've found that the lipstick varnish things do help, although Benefit discontinued She-Lac which was my favourite (I was nowhere near as pissed off as I was when they discontinued the Benetint Lip Balm though >:().

I thought I'd post since I've finally found a good replacement for the latter which is Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose - it goes on lovely and the colour is almost the same. They also do a nude one called Jasmine which tastes like vanilla and reminded me of Mates Natural condoms :D.

There's already a thread (and probably quite a few others too), but you won't have found it in Q&A because it isn't directly a sex work question. If you go back through this one there's a fair bit about lipsticks and I think foundations too :).

http://unspottedbeauty.com/maybelline-superstay-24-color-lipstick/ (http://unspottedbeauty.com/maybelline-superstay-24-color-lipstick/)

I can verify that the above works, you might have to touch it up a few times throughout the day but you won't be reapplying every ten minutes.

As for foundation I use Maybelline Super Stay 24hrs liquid foundation (not sure if its lightweight though). Just double checked yes it is.

Yes that lip stuff is fab! It's not snog proof but if you're just wearing it then its super! You only need a bit though! Or the Apocalips (Max factor I think)

I use BareMinerals foundation. Lightweight and stays on all day. (for me anyway) I have dry/few blemishes skin and my skin looks fab with it.

I did so much hunting it's insane. In the end i mostley just got all of the HIGHEST rated makeup from the interwebs.

Primer: Smashbox (needed for more edurance sex sessions to keep the foundation in tact)

Foundation: Nars sheer glow (If your really going for a powwow night i do airbrush foundation omg it is the most perfect thing in all the land & i use dinair machine with mac airbrush foundation)

Concealer: 2000 collection

Mascara: Max factor lash effects

Eyeliner: Any at all do the job :) but i find the winged eyeliner look takes 5 minutes rather than 20 with l'oreal super liner.

Finishing spray: Urban decay (also needed for tougher bookings)

As regards to mascara though, in the summer it does run down your face after vigorous sex so try false lash extensions at the salon. I get mind done for ?35 mind you that is very cheap it's usually about ?80 & they last a month (no idea why my salon do them so cheap it's standard quality). Looks like your wearing mascara & longer thicker more curled lashes but you wont look gothic after a booking.

At the end of the day it is personal preference & after enough trying you will find your perfect combo of all makeup which i am lucky to be completely contempt with my choice i don't ever try anything else, some girls never stop trying.

I just got rimmel londen 16hr kiss proof lip gloss....its holding up pretty well so far.
It has a double wand u apply the colour first..let it 'dry' then apply a clear top coat which aparantly seals and locks it.
I was impressed wen the colour didnt rub  straight off onto the clear wand for starters! And you can re-apply the clear side for extra gloss but the  colour does hold well...iv eaten , had a cup of coffee and a smoke and its still holding up. Thumbs up from me. :-*

Atm I keep using NYC stain lip pen. It looks like a felt tip pen and it's amazing. Stays on literally throughout a handful of bookings hence 'stain' in the title and at a bargain price of 3.99. I use a pinky red colour and love it x

The rimmel one isnt drying... i still hav it on even though i need to top up the clear gloss coat my lips still arent feeling dry and th colour hasnt cracked or anything.
Have also tried the lip stain pens b4 they r good but too but  I like the look of lipstick..which i think i get more from this 16hr wand... only problem was thers only about 6 shades but i found 1 i liked.

I've recently bought two each of the Maybelline Color Sensationals and Bourjois Rouge Editions - in the latter, Brun Boheme is a lovely autumnal brick red. I find lipsticks a nightmare as I have ruddy cheeks (cool) and chestnutty hair (warm). They both wear well if blotted, re-applied, blotted (it always winds me up when women don't put lippy on 'properly'!)

Going back in this thread, I'm another Lily Lolo fan: I found Bare Escentuals made my face itch. I've used their foundation, powder, bronzer and eyeshadows - all good. The lipsticks are nice in texture, but don't last.

One thing I've found difficult to find is a brown waterproof mascara: Rimmel's is good though, as is a Miss Den one I bought on amazon. Despite using them and what claim to be waterproof eyeliners though, I always end up looking like a panda!  :o

I buy whatever is on sale  ;D

I don't wear make up much in my personal life and sometimes I only put on a bit of eyeshadow, mascara and lippy for bookings.

The only times I tend to use foundation etc is if my rocasea has flared up.

I've always gone with Channel, they do very pale and several levels of heaviness/coverage and they have a fantastic range of products, their mascara is beautiful.  I think they make a lot of their make-up with paler Europeans in mind who don't want a totally wild crazy all out colour look
More recently for quicker use I've been doing Bare Minerals.  I have used the clear liquid primer stuff (in a white bottle) underneath when I remember.   It makes SUCH an enormous difference to the staying power, makes the blemishes (I always have red bits) cover well - Bare Minerals do a special brush for blemish/concealment, the lady at the counter will show you.  I went for one of the starter kits.  When you find the colour you like get it on the QVC website, it's much cheaper.  I haven't had any reactions to bare minerals and oddly it doesn't make my dry skin drier.  So depending on the occasion one of those two.

For endurance, sweat action etc ;) staying power, it has got to be the Bare minerals used with the primer!!!

Just found estee lauder double wear! Im in love with it, totally sweat proof/ shower proof and flawless coverage, stops me needing to take it all off and on again between bookings.... doesnt aggrevate my skin either like most heavy cover foundations have problem skin)

Good one for lots of bookings or hard work bookings.... mascara that doesnt smudge i cant help with tho! i spend the second half of my long bookings looking like a panda. Guess pandas are cute at least.......

I have a full bottle of Est?e Lauder that I can't use as it dries my skin out but have found others that work well.

The trick with mascara is to wear waterproof and make sure your concealer and or foundation is not too close to it as the concealer especially breaks the mascara down.

I find I can't wear eyeliner on my lower lid as it smudges or just disappears.

I use maybelline 'better skin' foundation, which has good coverage without weighing my skin down. I don't think it's made my skin any better though but at least it hasn't made it worse. I have to look through the ingredients list because there's an irritant called methylisothiazolinone which is included in quite a few make up products. One to avoid, as you can become allergic to it over time, like I did when I got dry skin and eczema all over my face (I was miserable and had no idea what was causing it). I know that it's in maybelline bb creams.

[removed - please don't post these here]

Apart from that I use revlon lipsticks, there's one called rich girl red which isn't too heavy and doesn't dry out my lips as much as others, and of course maybelline great lash mascara is a must have.

I buy whatever takes my fancy. I used to buy the top end brands from department stores but I couldn't find a lot of the colours I liked, especially in lipstick, so I just raid all the Boots stands and get a mix of things.

One thing I do not buy is expensive mascara because I swear blind, the cheap stuff is better. I love Barry M mascara and you can't get cheaper. It's much better than all this long lash rubbish, which never works for me.

My favourite blusher is Bourjois - I just adore it.

You have to watch clinique though...I used to swear by their skincare range but alot of their stuff has alcohol in it so ages you in the long term..  I couldn't have cared less when I used it in my mid 20s but I think about this stuff nowadays!

The best mascara ever is Diorshow. It's just amazing. I find that it's important to invest in good make up and creams and so I do. I spend less on body care and nails. But if you want a natural make up then yes, you need to pay for it. Guerlain eyeshadows are great. And they last ages.

I didn't realise that actual airbrushed foundation was a thing. The Dior Airflash is sprayed from a can but I don't spray it directly onto my face (despite instructions saying to do just that.) I spray it onto a huge fluffy brush and then buff it onto my face. The coverage is incredible and it feels like nothing at all. It does seem to hold up well, but I don't really have issues with makeup lasting, anyway.

I don't care for primers - I think they make the skin look overly made-up. Wayne Goss recommends putting loose powder on under your foundation. I have to say that when I do that my makeup wears perfectly all day (other than what gets kissed off.)

One problem I do have is eyeliner smudging down under my eyes (even if I don't put it under my eyes eyeliner pencil will migrate there.) Benefit They're Real PushUp liner does not budge. In fact, it can be a bitch to get it off. But if you want a very intense, dramatic black line that doesn't smudge or fade no matter what, it will work beautifully.

That Max Factor Lipfinity really does what it says on the tin: that shit won't come off no matter what you do. Well, if you eat something greasy like KFC you may lose some of it as it doesn't hold up well to oils. But it will give an even, intense colour that will last through multiple DFK bookings and still look like you've just applied it. Won't come off on the clients, either.

A great cheap liquid liner that won't budge is Seventeen's Tattoo Me. They do a great mascara too (Falsifeye) which I think is only six or seven quid but just as good as the high end ones. I use NYX loose powder (cheap and good quality) but it has a bit of a messy pot. I also have their setting spray which holds my make up but stops it looking too done up.

Stila Stay All Day is good, but when it's really scorchio, I used a BB or CC cream and then Lily Lolo mineral foundation (I found Bare Minerals irritated my skin a little; other brands are undoubtedly available). It looks nice and matte but natural, and the best thing is you can just refresh it easily whenever during the day. I'd recommend investing in a big, good quality kabuki brush for application.

Thanks, I've been thinking about investing in a mineral foundation so I'll give it a whirl. Is Lily Lolo available in Boots or just online? I always prefer to buy foundation I haven't purchased before instore as I find it hard to colour match my skin; I'm naturally very pale but ivory shades make me look washed out sometimes and medium is often too dark so I end up looking like an oompa loompa- so I prefer to go to a counter and let the ladies help me out when possible!

?30 Estee Lauder double wear is perfect full coverage for my whole face then ?10 Max Factor FaceFinity for the area around my mouth as it always needs touch ups after clients, same shade and it's 3x as cheap (and has a pump).

I try to only touch my face with clean brushes and not my own hands because the oils and dirt can cause breakouts so a client touching my face really irritates me because they always manage to ruin the coverage and contouring and it's not good for skin.

A client once recommended Lipfinity to me after I wore red lippy for a BJ on request and finished looking like a clown.. Have no idea how he knew ;D
Although to be honest I prefer just lipbalm with clients, find lipstick too messy

I am currently using Rimmel but I recently tried Estee Lauder and I literally had to scrape it off inbetween clients because it stuck like glue! Awful.

I've gone off the Rimmel colour and love Elizabeth Arden's Toasty Beige but it's the stuff you put on with the sponge and it takes too long. Their other products are all 24 hour 'glue to your face.'

It seems to me that all the foundations are geared towards women who want it to stay on all day, whereas I just want to look good for each booking and not like a patchy clown.

Has anyone found the perfect work foundation?

I like a natural foundation so use No7 Intelligent Colour it adjusts and matches to your skin tone so you buy it in light, medium or dark its hypo-allergenic and SPF6. I love it because its so light with a fluffy mousey consistency it spreads and covers wonderfully giving a light dewy coverage that's easy to remove when you want it off.

Skindinavia do good spray primers and setting spray which helps keep everything on. RCMA no colour powder is great to keep your skin matte and your foundation from shifting as well.

The best way to prevent creasing under the eyes if you use concealer or corrector there is to immediately set it with powder after you've applied and blended it.

Seventeen at Boots do an amazing liquid eyeliner called Tattoo Me which is really cheap and doesn't budge. Their mascara Falysifeye HD is the best mascara I've ever used and it's only about seven or eight quid.

Also another thing I love is making products multi-purpose - if you sweep a little bit of red lipstick over the crease of your eyelids with a dark brown eyeshadow it gives a really nice rusty/copper shade. I also really like using lipsticks as blusher - just dot a tiny bit on and blend with your fingers. The creamy texture works really well.

Thanks for the tip about the Airspray, I hate wearing foundation but have a couple of big spots at the moment so spent a debenhams gift card that has been in my purse for months. Very happy with it - I normally scrape foundation off the minute I've finished work as it feels so horrible but ended up going out shopping with it still on and didn't feel irritated at all.

My tip for cheap eyeliner is GOSH liquid liner from Superdrug. It's under a fiver and I've found it stays on from 7am to 9pm with no retouch needed, even in warm weather. Comes off without scrubbing with most cleansers as well.

Maybelline 24 hour stay lipstick like a lipgloss but goes on Matt , doesn't transfer onto clothes etc so it's safe , my clients love it bright red , but it's impossible to get off if you need to pop to the paper shop etc .
plus even after cleansing / washing it's still there in the morning, can be quite scarey if you pass a mirror first thing in the morning and you've forgotten !

I love Bourjois' rice powder over a liquid foundation: it's only about a fiver and has an ultrafine formulation that doesn't look at all cakey.

My favourite 'does what it says on the tin' mascara is Rimmel's 100 percent waterproof, especially as you can get it in brown/black.

Depending on what coverage you want but you might be better off using a tinted moisturiser? Boots No7 is quite good but only for a natural look.

Chanel,  the simple fact that I can now afford to wear Chanel for work makes me happy! Plus all of my friends who have no idea what I do love raiding my make up bag when we are out. Perfume is also chanel but I make sure I get clients to buy that for me.... its amazing what you can get if you ask with a twinkle in your eye!

Bought a Max Factor Lipfinity yesterday but not very impressed with it as it didn't stay on at all. Might try the Maybelline 24 instead.
That seriously doesn't come off , the one with two ends , if you just use the colour one , I've even blotted on a white napkin to prove my point..it's totally safe with shirts etc if blotted a tiny bit x

Ok this isn't make up and not worth making a new thread so I don't where to post but while I was in hospital they have this foam cleaner, like shaving foam, but you don't have to rinse it off.

Just wipe and your fresh as a Daisy and it's for your intimate areas ( gynea ward) and under arms etc , they had it everywhere so I swiped a couple of cans from the bathroom.

It's called vernacare Senset , skin cleansing foam , it's great for a proper clean up between clients if you don't want a full on shower , on tour etc .

Felt weird not rinsing but I get a bit itchy with some lubes etc and I seem to have got,  not exactly a latex condom allergy but an irritation , so use skins but this stuff is great.

Haven't checked how much it is but even if it was a tenner a go it's cheaper than hot water etc and great if you have a pongy guy as it must be super cleaning and non smelling or irritating .

That does sound good.

I am a fan of Hibicleans/Hibiscrub. It's a surgical cleanser. I use it before I shave and before bed to prevent red rash. Good for spots on chest. Use with a loofah for spots on the bum. I also put a thin layer of Sudocreme after shaving. Really helps.

Yes, although I do tend to use a waterproof eye make-up remover, and then Clinique's Take the Day Off balm (also oily).

The thing I don't like about estee lauder double wear is the bottle it comes in, its so old fashioned you would have thought they might have re designed the packaging a bit better by now. I like double wear light its in a tube and a bit lighter and easier to remove (obviously haha) But I only ever buy it when there's a free gift offer on such as a nice make up bag with pots of face and eye cream, a mini mascara and foundation sample  etc, good for travelling.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but a staple in my bag is NYX setting spray.

I've fallen asleep with Mac foundation on after spraying this and it's barely budged, so I'd be totally happy to recommend it for bookings. I do have more expensive primers/setting sprays, but honestly, I swear by a lot of NYX stuff.

I also like Benefit's Hoola for contour, although I do prefer Smashbox. W7 do an ok dupe for the price but you have to blend, blend blend in the most natural light you can get I find. I wouldn't wear it for a booking personally but it would be ok for every day kind of wear. I'd be more inclined to use my Smashbox for a booking.

I love Mac foundation though, I find it incredibly cost effective as I don't use very much even with near daily wear. I've tried other foundations and used to swear by No7, but was converted to Mac and never looked back.

Does anyone use a Beauty Blender? What do they offer above and beyond a normal make-up sponge?

Hahahaha it took me ages to learn how to contour and watching God knows how many YouTube tutorials. I still find new things to do like contouring my nose etc. But I find putting on make up really relaxing/fun and I enjoy finding new things to experiment with. Strobing makes me look like a glazed doughnut though.

I've tried a beauty blender and they're good for getting into little crevices i.e. right in at your eyes, side of your nose etc. But in all honesty I prefer using a plain old brush.

I've never tried their foundation although I've heard good things about it too. Their concealer is pretty decent for the price as well - the stick one, I think it's HD. I don't really rate the one in the tub, I have a regular old concealer and a colour correcting one. The latter is ok but I wouldn't buy it again. I found the former could look a bit chalky texture wise on me no matter how much I blended.

I also really like their primer, the clear one, but I might try the colour correcting ones as well. Also the setting powder they have is decent. And I love their lipsticks, I haven't had full on passionate kissing wearing it so I don't know how they hold up in that respect. But they have a brilliant selection of colours and my attitude is if I fancy trying a colour out, I'll buy it at their price and if I love how it looks, I'll buy a similar shade in a brand I know can withstand the heat. Oh! Their brow kit is good too.

Most of my make up is a mix of high street and high end/luxury. I follow a lot of beauty blogs/vlogs so I'm always interested in how other people utilise make up :)

I use vichys waterproof eye makeup remover I find it works just as well as the premium brands and its only ?9 odd their michealerwater makeup remover dissolves all my face makeup in one go and any odd bit of left over eye makeup after ive wiped my eyes with Vichys waterproof eyemakeup remover . You need to remove mascara and eyeliner first with a waterproof makeup remover otherwise it stings your eyes when you rinse it of with water as so much comes of but it's worth forking out for as removing face makeup with regular  cleanser takes forever .

Ii prefer to use diors makeup sponge to a beauty blender as you can put it in the washing machine so stains come of more  and it lasts forever .if anyone does think about buying a beauty blender don't buy the beauty blender ccleansers for cleaning it their a con you can clean it or any other makeup sponge  with a makeup brush cleaner spray and give it a deep clean with a makeup brush shampoo bobbi browns is a good one or plain old baby shampoo then leave it to dry .

One of my friends converted me to blender. She works in make up. I just can't believe how much foundation I save since I started using blender! I pour some foundation onto my hand, you know, that place on the top of your palm near your thumb and then pick up some with my blender and tap onto my face. Last time I bought foundation was in November and I checked yesterday I still have more than half the bottle of it left. Incredible!

Any mascara will go off easily and no redness if you use one of those mentioned above (those you shake and Garnier and Nivea have great ones)
Put it on a cotton pad.
Close your eye and press lightly on your lashes. Hold for 5-10 seconds (don't rub!) so it soaks into your lashes and gets them properly wet.
Then tap gently, movement from outside towards inside the eye (avoids stretching the eye and thus avoids wrinkles)
Open the eye, the excess of mascara all under.
Tap gently to wipe it off (inward movement).
I then look up and end up wiping my eyelashes on my open eye (that's itchy and feels funny so not everyone likes it but really gets rid of all the mascara)
The whole thing takes a bit of time so I do it in front of TV.

Another way of getting rid of all the mascara very gently is doing it with a make up remover you use with your fingers and then wipe off with a cotton pad. Just a bit tricky not to get any into your eye.

Those make up wipes are to be avoided because as much as they are convenient and easy to use they tend to stretch the skin in the eye area a lot! Not good.

I've found Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede can last through a fair amount of snogging, and it's not drying like some of the other long-lasting lipsticks.

Also, it helps if you apply any lipstick properly: one layer, blot with tissue, another layer, blot again.

Until recently I used to get bad skin through wearing too much make up, which made me have to wear more make up to cover up which was a vicious circle.
I subscribe to monthly beauty boxes from lookfantastic and received a sample of Eve Lom balm cleanser with a muslin cloth. It is amazing- the best product I've ever used by miles. You apply it to dry skin and it dissolves your make up, and you use the muslin cloth to remove it. My skin is pretty much flawless for it, and I've always suffered feom difficult combination skin. I also use Uskin vitamin C serum (about ?12/?13 on Amazon) which is also great, and Wake Wonderful by REM 2-3 times a week.
The products together are quite exspensive, but there's no point investing in great make up if your base is hard to apply to.

Maybelline's Super Stay 25 Colour is very good. You apply the lippy and let it dry and then use the top coat that comes with it. Survives kissing and blow jobs!

Also I have been using Rimmel's 60 seconds Super shine nail polish which is really long lasting, doesn't chip AND is dead easy to put on as well as fast drying,

I've been lazy and haven't read this whole thread so feel free to abuse me if it's already been answered. Can anyone please recommend any products/make up techniques to create a flawless base if you have open pores. I've got some on my cheeks and nose and they really irritate me. I saw a make up artist/beauty blogger on youtube who has really bad skin of pretty much every description use a very thick anti-redness product which costs about ?60 (I have to look for the name) and she literally fills the pores with it in the way you would use pollyfiller to fill a crack (sorry for the analogy!) then applies the foundation over top. It sounds a bit gross but at the end of the day, your foundation sits in your open pores anyway (so I can't see what difference it makes so long as you properly clean your skin afterwards).

YSL Glossy Stains. They will stain the lip and look very glossy. You wipe the lip with tissue before you down down to business, but it leave a full stain/pretty much opaque lipstick like appearance which you can then "top up" and reapply over with the same product. Doesn't really dry your lips. After a night out or the next day your lips will still have the stain, but you can use make up remove and lots of scrubbing or a toothbrush. They are seriously superior to any long wearing lipstick or stain, they seep into the lips skin itself, they are worth the 25 pounds or whatever they cost each. Can get them in every colour under the sun.

Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin enhancer is good work foundation for women that like heavy make up. It's designed as a all-in-one or concealer type product, but it's pretty much just very strong pigment. it comes in a very small 20ml or so tub and costs 40 pounds I think but it lasts forever, has very pale shades too. Offers complete opaque coverage which you can use full face (better than double wear) or you can use that in patches where you need concealer and then thin it out and use it as a lighter coverage foundation; results are flawless either way. You can layer it over itself without any problems as a touch up too without it caking.

Mac Face and Body is very sheer but truly waterproof and sweat-proof make up. If you add a touch of concealer to it and mix it together it becomes opaque/full coverage but maintains it's waterproof ability and it's luminous appearance. It's a very versatile foundation and good value as the bottle is so big when you get it from a pro-store.

Tints wear much better than shadow. Eye tints such as Becca ones are very good, they make something called a beach tint. For eyes is around 20 pounds, they do cheek ones too for the same price. They are transfer and sweat proof. Or the all in one sticks lke Nars multiples. You can fatten up your lashes with clear brow gel or tinted brow gel/fibre and then just use mascara on the very ends of the lashes. Removing it will be much easier as you can just pinch the ends with a make up remover soaked pad. It's when you are trying to remove it from the base of the lash that it becomes a mess and is difficult to remove.

Yes. Talika. Talika was one of the first lash serums on the market, you had to order directly from the US and then it was only available at Sephora. It's expensive but because it can be also used on fake lashes (to strengthen them) it's been very popular.
Then there's Revitalash that I know from my Boots friends is very good. And there's another one that's very similar to Talika but I don't remember the name it's something-lash.

The guy spent the whole booking smearing it ALL OVER MY FACE. The shit was everywhere on me, on my bed, on him, and i had to reschedule my next booking because no matter how I washed it wouldn't go off!!! I am forever wiping my ivory make up out of clients pores. They think I am a deranged nit picker. I have to explain to them that there is no explanation for coming home with white foundation in their enlarged pores and their wife is going to ask for a divorce if she spots it. Trio lashes. They're great because they give the control of individual lashes but aren't as fussy to get on and don't require as much glue. Ardell makes them and so does Kiss. Use the adhesive for strip lashes, it's less harsh than the glue for individual lashes or flares. To remove them, take a regular (slightly steamy) shower, then they slide off easily with a baby wipe. I love them.

The shit was everywhere on me, on my bed, on him, and i had to reschedule my next booking because no matter how I washed it wouldn't go off!!! So then I gave it to my sis, i did warn her to be really careful with it, hahaha I'll never forget what she looked like after she applied too much hahaha
dior and channels liquid lipsticks are cr?me so they come of easier

Here's a question. Does primer really help and how exactly? I got the smashbox one, still unopened:)

I think so, yes. It sort of smooths and tightens everything a little bit, so your foundation looks better. The Smashbox one is good.

Oh ok.
I use Clarins Lisse Minute under my eyes, on my eyelids and on my nose just after my cream and before my foundation. Not at all how it should be used but I love it plus eyeshadow keeps better and less smudges under eyes.

TooFaced does amazing eyeshadow base. It brings out the eyeshadows colour and it makes them last much better.

I swear by primer, I won't apply make up without it now. It helps glide make up on so much better.

Smashbox primer is brilliant, but I usually only pick it up in duty free as they tend to do really good offers. I think its 2 for ?40 or something like that - it's a really good deal.
Mac primer is also good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. If I was gifted it, I'd be appreciative but I'd be more inclined to buy SB.
W7 do a really good primer that isn't entirely dissimilar to SB - I can only find it online, but by comparison its ?5 including P&P. I use that for everyday wear.
NYX primer is also pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend the HD one (its in a white tube). It is a decent primer, but my skin has been awful since I've been using it.
Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer is also pretty amazing as well, but again, I couldn't justify it for everyday wear because of the price. It does make eye colours look amazing though.

Right. But that means one more "layer", right? And I don't like full coverage, and don't need it. I already have my face serum, face cream and then my beauty flash balm followed by foundation (because I'm more into nude/dewy than matte).
If I go for primer does it matify? Or does it just make applying easier, which for me is already easy with my balm. Or does it help  settle? But for settling I should go for baking powder, I know that.

Bloody hell why do I even have all this stuff?!

Beauty Flash Balm almost does a similar job to a primer. I use serum and cream on a night, so only a light moisturiser after I've showered. If I'm getting ready for a booking I'll use a BB/CC cream instead of moisturiser and then a bit of mineral foundation.

Otherwise, if my face is in 'normal' status, I'll use liquid foundation (and loose powder). I don't always use primer, but the Smashbox one is clear, so it doesn't add coverage exactly. It just smoothes your skin, so foundation doesn't settle into pores and wrinkles.

I'd say BFB 'perks up' your complexion, primer smoothes out your skin. I have high colouring, so the latter is better for me.

I thought so. So I don't need a primer. I love my balm, it's sooo nice. Plus with the balm you can skip foundation in the summer.

No not just you. My ex flatmate used to go for full coverage. It looked beautiful. Every day I see that young woman working at my near shop wearing full coverage and I love it on her, it's stunning. But I would never wear it myself one because it doesn't suit me and i wouldn't feel comfortable and two because my skin doesn't need it. Not to mention the fact that I would never be able to pull it off lol.

I do love sometimes spending hours doing my eyes. Like once a year:) I have small lips so I put more accent on my eyes anyway and lips are just a nice soft gloss, I never go for both.

well i found if  i  do use primer, i don't  get  any  spots  etc ..well cleanser, toner, after caffeine solution 5% + egcg (reduce  dark  circles), hyaluronic acid 2% + b5 (hydrate ), cream with SPF, we have just one skin  so we should take  care of.  for nigh  have  i have  retinol  or  vitamin  C,  caffeine  again, oils  and  night  creams,  to be honest  i wasn't   intro  skin care at all, but  getting   older, thinking  about  investing more to my self, and i have to say   i see huge difference.

I have a tiny makeup bag at my work flat with a few bits in and that's it - I'm curious as to how long the people who wear dozens of different things need to put it all on as it would take me forever? I don't even recognise most of it and I know I couldn't be bothered to redo that between all bookings so I'm guessing it stays put pretty well (which is the whole point of the thread I suppose).

I bought an eyebrow compact set from Superdrug which was less than a fiver and it's great, although it doesn't fit in my make up bag properly. My next problem is going to be finding a foundation that's pale enough when my bottle wears out - I only wear a tiny dab if I need it but my favourite has long since been discontinued and I'm on the last of the three bottles I bought about five years ago so if anybody can recommend one that would be fab :D.

BB/CC cream or primer
Mineral powder foundation or liquid foundation + loose powder
Eyebrow crayon
Pen or pencil eyeliner on top lid
Eyeshadow (usually just one colour)
Mascara
Lipstick

15-20 minutes all in tops.

I'm forever getting free samples from Debenhams, fenwicks etc , chanel , Dior etc and they're mega pale, I'm quite olive skinned but they're great for travelling , I buy clinique only because I've decided the last one lasted me around five years and cost 20 quid and since it ran out I have bought loads for 5,6,7,8 pounds a throw that are no good so bought a new one that'll last ages !

Go to Clarins ask for samples. Most specialists are lovely, even if they don't have a sample of specific colour you need (there's a few pale shades), they can make one for you. Clinique has a few pale shades and if you look into L'Or?al stuff there's pale shades as well (you can test in the shop and just pop out of the shop have a proper look at the shade in daylight if you test on your skin). Vichy has a couple of lovely pale shades but not sure if easy to find.

Well my whole make up takes maybe 15 min max. I can pull it all off in 3 min if I must but unlike you I travel with a lot of stuff. Though it's more skincare and other beauty products that I can't live without, make up is always secondary. You can look great with glowing skin, lipstick and mascara.

My makeup is quite minimal. I'm very lightskinned and I've found the Dior Airflash foundation in the palest colour is just right, and it feels really light and stays on all day without touchups. It was ?28 which made me  :o but it's lasted me 2 months so far and I'm not even halfway through it. I don't wear it every day though, only if my skin looks shitty due to illness.

Moisturiser post shower, get dressed whilst that sinks in
Primer, finish getting dressed so it has a few mins to settle
Concealer under eyes
Mac foundation
Blusher
Contour & highlight
Powder, but usually just setting spray

Setting spray is something I swear by in my bag, a good one and your make up will last hours. Usually I only need to touch up my chin/mouth area if a client has a tendency to lick off my make up whilst kissing, but my make up doesn't budge.
It takes me about 15-20 mins once I've sat down to start applying concealer. I don't wear eyeshadows in bookings and rarely lipstick either - I have eyelash extensions so I don't bother with mascara anymore.

I swear by Mac foundation - a little goes a long way if you use a brush/beauty blender, and my bottle has easily lasted me 4 months before I had to think about buying another. And I wear foundation near enough every day.

Re primer and another layer - some can have a mattifying effect and make you feel like its another layer. Others just smooth out pores and make your foundation slide on easier. I think its personal preference though, I prefer the matte finish but if I was strobing etc I'd probably want dewy.

Hi ladies hope you are all well, I haven't read all of the comments but there are a few products I swear by, I work mainly doing tantric naked massage so the is oil and heat flying about the place and aswell as assisted showers and here are my holly grails, (there are a few body shop products on my list but I don't work for them or sell there stuff in those silly party's they do so don't worry!) I'm really super pale and ivory is still too dark for me so all this stuff is fod super pale skin aswell as suited for webcam.

1- benefit lemmonaid on eyes - ?15 but lasts me all year if not longer
2- body shop vitamin c serum under make up as a primer - fixes it all
3- lorial true match foundation in ivory
4- mac highlighter (especially on webcam the fleek is amazing)
5- freedom eyebrow palmaid (is a dupe of abh and is only ?5 as appose to abh ?25 Iv got both and apart from the brush there's no difference)
6 - body shop foundation lighting drops these drops are amazing!!! Lightens your foundation to upto 4 shades lighter they also do a darker skin variety too.
7- I used to swar by rimmel appcolips and haven't found anything I like just as much but I do quite like the Bonjorus liquid lipsticks - they don't budge so youl need eye make up to remove them at ?7 they are pretty affordable too.
8- can't go wrong with collection concealer and loose powder.

The only thing Iv never found a good dupe for is chinele kohl eyeliner as I have a watery eye so the ?25 is a lot but it lasts for about a year till I lose it and have to get another. I also found that using a real beauty blender beets everything elce in the way, ?15 for a sponge is abit 🙈😞 but trust me it's worth every penny.  X

Hi amy I have pale skin that's very sensitive so sensitive I unfortunately have to use boots no7 foundation or stuff from makeup counters at Debenhams like mac . No7 cater for very pale skin their foundation starts from ?10 upwards and they will colour match you to find your exact shade x

I have pretty small lips so I always worry about them ending up bare after a session.  I've recently discovered a Korean "peel off lip tattoo stain"  which is around ?15 for four colours on amazon at the moment and leaves me with sexy bitten looking lips,  even after a messy blow job!

Depending on what type of surgery you're having (keyhole?) please do check with your surgical team about when the wound sites will be okay for makeup.

I had stomach surgery two years ago which involved 6 keyhole incisions which were then stitched with those dissolving steri strip things, plus a dressing on top. 5 of them healed up absolutely fine and the dressings came off on day 5 and stayed off, but one gave me problems - it was high up between my boobs and as it was summer I think because I was sweating it slowed the healing. If the wound site is still "wet" (for want of a better word) please don't try putting any cover up on it as it could potentially lead to infection.

(2 years on the scars are only visible if you're looking for them!)

Thank you for the info VC, I'm only having 4 , one of them under a boob  . I intend to take 3 weeks off minimum or until they're all healed . The make up would be purely to blend in the "pinkiness" for aesthetic purposes once I'm fit so that they're not so obvious .

your Doctor might be able to help you they can give your prescriptions for cover up that isn't sold in the shops and sometimes refer you to places. I was referred somewhere and the cover up worked a thousand times better than derma blend which in my opinion works the same as a full coverage foundation.

Bondi sands ultra dark- only needs 4-5 hours to develop, as long as you keep moisturised it fades naturally no patches! And withstands showers/shaving

Seconding Kat Von D's Lock-it foundation, applied with a beauty blender and 'baked' with setting powder. Stays for ages! Kat von D are also pretty good for pale shades, and sell a 'pure white' concealer that you can mix into products to get an even paler shade.

Hey,

So this hasn't been such an issue until recently. The combination of moving to a really bright apartment and the heat are really exacerbating the situation  :FF

How is everyone keeping their make-up on ??? ???

I have, not 'spotty' bad skin, but go very red so wear a fair amount of foundation, powder etc. to cover this and make it even.

Now, every booking, I'm looking in the mirror half way through and realised (particularly the mouth area for obvious reasons) is bright red and all the make up has gone :( I am getting really self-conscious about it, as I said, especially now I have moved and its so bright until like 10pm!!!  :(

I have tried hair spray, various primers, powders, setting sprays, etc.

Anyone else out there have any genius solutions?

Thanks in Advance x x

I find a primer with mineral foundation best, as you can build up/reapply the foundation without it looking too cakey or unnatural. Or get one of those 'infallible' liquid foundations, only apply a thin layer, and dust with Bourjois' rice powder. Boots No. 7 do a good green tinted primer if redness is an issue: it's semi-transparent so doesn't give you the Halloween look some others do.

BTW, I would not recommend Urban Decay's Cannonball mascara - had to chuck mine quite soon as the wand just got really gunky.

It looked great on my skin but a lot of my darker skinned clients were covered in it also! I’ve never had this happen with other brands or even other Max Factoe foundations

I always use No 7, no rub off on clients for foundation, and they don't set off my sensitive skin. Not great if you have a darker skin tone, but I've heard from friends Fenty is fantastic (when I went they didn't have my shade, didn't irritate my skin, but can't personally recommend for uber pales like myself). If it feels loose, quick hair spray and it'll stay put, often what I've done for over the top make up. Does depend on the foundation and coverage, and skin sensitivity. I use a pretty mild hair spray.

Also lipcote, it is an insanely good lipstick sealant. When applied in advance I've yet to have an issue with lipstick over myself or a client, and I go for brick red lipstick. Also just good generally, no lipstick marks on glasses, whoop!.

I use different foundations, depending on how many bookings I've got. Urban Decay for more bookings, lasting perfection by Collection for shorter ones. I've also used MUA foundation, which isn't a heavy coverage, but great to whack on quickly and needs minimal blending. I like to use a Smashbox primer. I'm using Benefit mascara at the moment, as it doesn't run if my eyes water. I also usually use a Mac lipstick, as Lipcote started cracking my lips. I don't like to use a bright red, but a more grapey colour.

The best foundation is Vichy dermablend 3D correction, the best concealer is nars, the best mascara is illamasqua, best blush/ bronzer is nars, and for a face base I always go for Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base. The clarins setting spray is the best one, and the Laura mercier powder is the best powder. For eyeliner the liquid one from urban decay is amazing so is the kat von d. All of this makeup listed withstands heavy sub sessions and face Fucking with little to no reapplication. Amazing stuff

Hi Ladies

I'm looking to change my make up brand, need recommendations in the best foundation, concealer and powder. My skin is sensitive and I'm always reapplying after customers have licked or sweated it all away.

Need something that will last through the working day.
Thanks in advance

Clinique are a good choice of foundation for sensitive skin - best to ask advice at the counter for the specific one. A primer can also help keep foundation on. I like Bourjois' rice powder as it's very light.

The alternative is to use a powder mineral foundation on top of a BB/CC cream, so you can just keep touching it up throughout the day. I like Lily Lilo (Bare Minerals made me react a little).

Lipcote - invisible gloss, seals lipstick makes them look yummy. One bottle lasts a year with me!

I find the budget brand lipsticks are more greasy and so come off with the slightest touch so I aim for the slightly pricier ones, with better ingredients, less applications and they last miles longer.

I'd be interested in that combo EX ;D

When I tried Lipcote years ago, I found it extremely drying.

Many newer matte lip colours work well, especially those that are bottle and brush/sponge, as opposed to a lipstick.

But... the main thing is to apply it properly. One layer, blot with tissue, second layer, blot again.

I think by their very nature glossy lipsticks aren't as long-lasting. The best one I've found for durability is Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede; the shade I have (070) is slightly pearlescent, so doesn't look matte.

If you like a glossy look the best thing is to buy a lipstain or something like Max Factor's 'indelible' lip colour, and then buy a clear gloss you can re-apply on top.

Hey,

I am not going to waste my money on recommendations from "civilians", so if any of you know of a lipstick that will endure for an hour or more, please tell. I toured with an escort once and she wore a drug store brand that was absolutely bulletproof, but I can't recall what it was called. ...

Thanks.

I think foundation is impossible to recommend if you don't know the persons skin type and/or are quailifed to to some degree, but I would suggest setting spray if you are not already using it. I use it either with, or instead of setting powder, but I always use it. I used to buy Urban Decay for about £30, I think, but then I  switched to Makeup Revolution, which I think is about 6. Not sure if I noticed a difference.. I now get the sports one thats supposed to hold up better, but again, I can't say if it is or not.

There is a green cream/serum which is supposed to be good for redness. Kiko do one that is not too expensive, and is supposed to be decent. Coconut oil (cold pressed virgin) instead of, or as well as your usual moisturiser may also  help. Diet is also worth considering too, especially wheat, beer and cider. I think a giveaway that your diet might be  to blame, is if you also experience flaky scalp.

By the way, coconut oil melts make up, so it's best to put it on a while before and dab  any excess with tissue

Try a setting spray I’ve used both a £Land one and Rimmel and both work well for a budget item. Put them on before make up and after for best results.

I used a No. 7 green colour corrector for ruddy cheeks, and it's the best of several such products I've tried (most leave you looking unwell). NYX do a good foundation, and you can set it with a very light dusting of Bourjois' rice powder if you prefer a matte look.

I think Clinique may still do a foundation that's not meant to rub off at all?

I really like the Clinique 24 hour concealer it's fantastic, I use a different brand foundation over the top Vichy dermablend, or a matte mouse by La Roche Possay sadly no longer available, or Boots No. 7. I do like E. L. F primer but just tried NYX photo primer which is so good I don't think I'll use anything else again.

True. I do sometimes use setting spray. But if the client doesn't end of wearing it, my no 7 foundation goes all cakey. I use serum, primer, pore filler, everything you're meant to do, but still struggle with cakey make up.

I have oily, acne skin which is kept clear by use of good prescription medication, also I am in my late 40s so slightly ageing (but not so much thanks to the oily/acne/medication). I have to avoid anything which clogs pores, because that will override the medication effect and I will break out. I have to mix and match because if I use all oily skin products it is too much, ends up cakey and flakey.

I have a range of moisturisers, find that normal skin moisturise, normal skin primer followed by good concealer (Clinique 24 hr), then a matte foundation, powder, matt setting spray works the best.

If I am wearing tinted moisturiser/normal foundation only then to I use a matt primer.

I don't wear much (if any) makeup and I don't like the feeling of anything on my skin, but I do have some for odd occasions and the foundation I've found with the most staying power is Studio Fix by MAC. I can't get used to the finish (and the fact that it smells like paint) but there's no denying it does the job.

For anybody with a few £ to chuck about, the Hourglass range and the concealer in particular is fabulous. I buy the travel size one and it lasts for an age :D.

I have very oily skin & it has been a nightmare finding make up that stays put (Still struggling now but it's better)

I use Benefit Porefessional Matte Primer or Too faced primed & poreless primer
Nars long lasting foundation (once that is empty I am switching to Fenty Beauty as I have heard really good things about them)
NYX Matte setting spray as well as Benefit Super Setter setting spray (I found that Urban Decay was causing my make up to slip off very easily)
ItCosmetics bye bye pores setting powder, however Fenty Beauty setting powder is amazing!  Laura Mercier worked for a while but found better options
Morphe setting spray is also a really good option

I would love to see someone who can tell me exactly what I need rather than wading through the dark trying out what does & doesn't work

I’m a trained make up artist so I tried so many different brands . For foundation I find Estée Lauder double wear is very good . I also use an  cake eyeliner sealer over my liner so keep it in place and it’s brilliant ( kryolan) . I have had “ lip blush “ which is tattooed lip liner /all over colour . It is very natural looking and ensures I only need a touch of lip balm
And I’m good to go .

My go to work makeup routine after moisturiser and primer is:

1. Eyebrow gel- I do the fluffy eyebrow and have my eyebrows laminated so any gel would do. I currently use Refy or NYX.
2. Concelear- I use a combination of NARS and Revolution
3. Foundation. I like it high coverage and my skin type is mixed so I like Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless or Estee Lauder double wear. Both are good to reapply in between clients if you need a quick touch up.
4. Contouring & Blush. I use a contour kit from MAC and blush from Beauty Bay
5. Setting powder. I now have the Jeffree Star Cosmetics one but NYX was pretty good too.
6. Setting spray. NYX/ Revolution/ Too faced.
7. Some nude/ pink eyeshadow + a bit of highlighter for the inner corners. There are from Melkior or Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
8. Mascara. Maybelline Falsies Lash Lift or Urban Decay Perversion after I curl my lashes.

It sounds like a lot, but it only takes me 10 to 15 minutes and I’m ready to go. It’s enough makeup to hide imperfections while still keeping a fresh face look. I have my makeup bag with me at all times if I need retouching and it doesn’t take much space. xx

I used to buy expensive make up for work Dior foundation etc. Now I stick with cheaper brands like Rimmel but I always get a waterproof mascara and eyeliner. foundation and lipstick is easy to top up. But when showering multiple times a day it's best having a waterproof massacrer unless you wear false lashes!

I try to use brands that my skin can still breathe in and not clots my pores. I also have sensitive skin so find certain products that you not give me allergic reaction:

Mascara-bare minerals
Liquid liner and eye pencil-ysl
Concealer- Clinique
Blush-Nars

They’re either waterproof or long wear.

This may depend on your skin type, I am paleish I also have oily/acne prone skin under constant medical level treatment which to some extent moderates the oiliness. I use a normal skin ELF primer with a little Vichy Dermablend foundation over the top - you do not need very much. Set with Nyx Matt setting spray.

Tubing mascara is good for this, I use the KVD one (I haven’t tried others!) and it doesn’t go smudge my or run at all
