Video doorbell
« on: 10 December 2018, 08:31:14 pm »
I've seen these advertised on TV but not paid much attention until today when I arrived at the house I'm using. There's a normal looking camera out the back & one of these door bell things at the front. I'm hoping it wont put my clients off & I wont be found out.

Anyone use them?  Seems like a good security idea..

I live in an apartment and my tv is connected to the entry phone cctv. It is an added security for me as I can see who is coming in and I can be sure no one is following them. I’ve previously had 2 friends turn up and I sent both away. Even a few weeks ago 2 friends came together to the new place because I could see them on the TV I could stop them and let them know only 1 person is allowed before I gave my apartment number.

If it’s a house, the camera could be recording throughout or when the bell is rang so I’ll say be careful. Maybe notify clients not to ring the bell in case it records when it’s rang and you just open the door when they arrive.

It depends on what type it is but if it’s the ones that have an app on your phone  ( most do) so every time the bell rings you get notified someone’s ringing the Bell and can see on the app who is ringing the bell
The  one i have at my house I can actually speak through the app to the whoever is ringing my doorbell  and tell them I’m not in or to f... off 😂.

It’s also motion sensored so they don’t even have to ring the bell on mine just get within  a few feet of it and I get a notification on my phone that someone is at my door.
Bit like those security night light that go on when you walk past at night .

It’s great  because if the amazon guy rings to deliver a parcel I can just speak to him and tell him to throw it over the wall, although he would probably do that anyway

At my work flat the cctv is linked to the main entrances so I can see who is at the main entrance and I have  a smaller spyhole camera at my flat door as well

To be honest if it’s one of those that I have or even similar style  it probably means that the owner will know everytime anyone gets within a few feet of the door and they will get a notification on there phone
If it’s a short term rental like Air n B then it makes perfect sense to have something like this for security
But not much good for you

Also meant to add that if there is no monitor in the flat so that you can see who is at the door yourself then the owner definitely has the app on there  phone / iPad as otherwise there is no point to it
It’s there for owner not you if you see what I mean he can monitor his apartment entrance / door from anywhere as long as he has the app

They are great for security even the basic model is pretty good

Thanks ladies. I'm getting clients to knock or rap the letter box. A bit concerned I'll be found out.

Can't see through the door, just a small frosted glass panel with no spy hole. The front room has been turned into a bedroom with one of those coded locks. I have to go upstairs to view the street.

I'll get some clients to come around the back.

I'm thinking about one of these as there's been a lot of burglaries around the area lately and neighbours are recommending them as some of these are when people are actually present. I also wondered if having a vid bell might put punters off but actually because safety is more important and I live alone I will get one as soon as I have cash spare.

A client of mine has one of these and showed me the app on his phone. I would say it's more useful if it records CCTV footage. (My client mainly used it to scare the shit out of delivery drivers)

Lol I do it to my dogs  I can see them via the app if they are in the front of the house and I speak to them through the bell  it’s pretty funny watching them looking really puzzled as they can hear me but can’t see  me 😂
