Title: Using a sponge with a coil
Post by: Alex6705 on 21 November 2019, 04:11:08 pm
So I recently just had an IUS coil fitted & was wondering if anyone else has one & successfully still uses a sponge whilst they’re bleeding. The thought of it getting stuck on the coil makes me cringe but until it’s fully settled & I know what my periods will be like, I’m gonna have to try & work around this.

Any suggestions would be a great help x

The coil is in the womb, the sponge will be in the vagina, there's a tightly closed cervix between. It shouldn't get stuck on it as they don't physically share the same space or ever even touch. You just need to be careful not to pull on the coil's string (feels like very thin nylon fishing line) when pulling out a sponge, tampon, etc.

I used to use a sponge with my coil, I was careful taking it out so I didn’t catch the strings and never had any issues with it x

My coil fell out after 6 weeks. I was bleeding constantly since it was fitted so had to use sponges all the time. I think the sponges kept catching on the strings and gradually pulled it out.

Was not a pleasant experience for me.

This is what I’m scared of eek.

Thankyou I’m gonna give it a go tomorrow. Also probably doesn’t help that I have super long acrylics lol x

A couple of years ago I pulled a sponge out as my coil came out with it!  It really startled me!

I still use coil with sponge but use the proper menstural ones  rather than just chopping up a regular natural sponge like I used to.

I don't work when I'm my period, break time in my opinion.

Yeah I don’t usually. But I’ve been bleeding since having the coil fitted so I can’t really be having a month off before Xmas x
