TV Documentary series about sex work for channel 5
« on: 13 November 2018, 05:40:35 pm »
Had a call earlier from a Channel 5 documentary producer doing a documentary about sex workers. I didn't answer but got a text. When I asked if it was paid the reply was no, because it's an unproduced observational documentary following life as it happens so none of the contributors get paid but then she goes on to say it would be great to discuss the benefits of getting involved with the series. I said no thanks it doesn't seem remotely beneficial to me.

Why on earth would an escort want to do any unpaid media work which essentially completely outs her? I can't think of a more life wrecking, fruitless project quite frankly. And why would anyone do it without even getting a decent amount of cash for their time and the inconvenience? They must think escorts are stupid or something.

Has anyone else been approached? Why would anyone be involved willingly in this series?

If you look at reality TV there are always those who will do anything to get their face on TV, in any way possible, good or bad. Look at Jeremy Kyle. I guess if they ask enough people some might say yes, believing the publicity to be beneficial to them.

However, I'm with you and I can't think of anything worse than this, it sounds horrendous. No amount of money would persuade me to go on the telly, tell the world what I do and allow them to edit me as they see fit. The very thought terrifies me!

If it outs you, it effectively outs all your clients too...
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Are you sure it was genuine? Never heard of documentary makers, texting!
Sounds a bit weird.

It would go down well with clients when you ask:- - "do you want to be on the telly with me?!!!"

Maybe documentary makers should be contacting George McCoy - he would love the publicity - he has already been on a few!

God knows if it was genuine or not. The lady called me twice but I didn't pick up. Not remotely interested. Just sounded awful to me and my first thought was, oh this is probably bogus.

Yea because there are people who will do it. I've notice with some of these docu's you'll see some of the same faces recycled. Some people maybe just get a kick out of being on TV and some might think their unique beauty ineffable charm will come through and they'll be spotted for bigger and better things. Even those these days, because there are so so so so many channels, in order to compete and make a profit they need something low budget but high impact, hence so many squalid little 'exposes' on sex lives and such... and so almost anyone can get on TV these days if they wanted to, hence its not the scoop or 'deal' it once was.

There was some fluff piece in a tabloid rag the other day about former reality stars becoming escorts and cam girls because they find getting ordinary work again after their 5 minutes of fame hard...so seems reality TV and prostitution are becoming self cycling bedfellows...

I've never had the urge to want to go on TV for any reason, certainly not for being an escort. I can't stand all the attention seeking types who will do absolutely anything for their two seconds of 'fame'.

Yes, I agree, on the adult work programmes they do seem to recycle the same people. I take it that their families qnd friends must know what they do so it isn't a big deal for them but if not I think they're bonkers.
