I can relate to most of these stories. I have a long trip for an overnight tomorrow, so watch this space..
Even on shorter trips I always pack a bag with lots of salad (yes, salad ) apples, nuts, flask of strong coffee etc.
It can be a real life saver if I am out all day and Calls are coming in (and I'm too mean to buy a pre- packed butty or Macky D', even if I ate those things )
I have found Clients can get mean on the 2nd booking.
One guy supplied 2 classy coffees and a flavoured water on a first visit (2hrs) then on the second it was one coffee at the start, and when he took a break to collect himself a flavoured water and I asked if I could have a water also, he half filled a glass from the tap.
Point taken..
Tap water is fine by me
Some clients make a point of having something they've read I like in, even on the umpteenth booking - and sometimes I'll take something for them to try.
Sure plenty don't, but I'm not so sure it should be a client's responsibility unless pre-agreed and even then I'd still have my own stuff just in case or for the journey.
Some years ago a well meaning client didn't realise just how far, how long it would take to get to the hotel - the booking at his request was picking me up and taking me to another city for an overnight before returning me back home. He had told me it's ok don't bring anything for evening meal, we'll have a meal when we arrive. We arrived so late the restaurant had stopped service, so I took charge and ordered us room service (with his permission of course). I'd altered the remainder of my diet to take into account the restaurant meal, so that taught me to always provide for myself - which is something I do in my personal life, so work is no different.
