You can also for a small fee, run a full car ownership check using one of the many motoring websites - including Autotrader. Gives you previous owners address, finance details etc.

Recommended (and I have used) whenever buying a second hand car - basically it's to check the car is bona fide, not stolen etc.

I'm actually not sure it gives the address since it's a long time since I've used it - but I think it does.

I have actually had clients ask me if I drive and what car I have but I always talk about my car before that. Really pisses me off when guys ask me personal questions bet they wouldn't be so keen to answer their own question.

With regards to clients asking my real name ect what response do you normally give because I just seen to get tongue tied and paranoid about the situ.

Sometimes I give a fake 'real name' to shut 'em up, and sometimes I just look at them blankly and say, "Please call me Emily" until they stop asking. I used to be nervous about making up answers to personal questions but I've found that once you get started, it's a lot of fun. What am I doing this weekend? Why, skiing in Canada! What's my favourite food? Vegan steak and cheese! What's my Real Job? Um, I'm a freelance door-opener, thank you so much for asking.

I've always assumed it's because insurance companies share information and that it's therefore probably relatively easy for any insurance company to access the car insurance details of everyone and pick up the various insurance expiry dates.  Also, a lot of us probably shop around for insurance when it's due and therefore distribute our details to lots of companies.

And there are some who can't be arsed to, like me. Yet every year I get different insurance groups dropping me a line telling me they can do better. Sure insurance groups share info, but the DVLA sells your info at a price. What makes more sense, going from insurance co. to insurance co. for a handful of details, or getting their hands on something as invaluable as the DVLA's database that holds every car driver's personal details for a fee.

But still; I can imagine the caution. I never really took that into consideration. And it would SUCK if one of her 'clients' took off with the key card, and came back while she was gone and ransacked the place. Excuse my paranoia LOL

That's easy enough. Report the stolen card immediately to the front desk and ask for it to be cancelled so it becomes invalid.

Can I nick this idea if the situation ever presents itself  ;)

Absolutely. And if management asks why didn't you book a conference room, tell them that it was too costly and it was more cost-effective for you to conduct your interviews in your room one-on-one. Carry one of those leather folders with you containing some official-looking documents, just for that extra touch.

Brandy's my old working name. The other name I use I've had for the past 3 and a half years. If they don't want to call me that, I tell them I also answer to Brandy. If they push, I say that Brandy's all they need to be getting on with for now. I tell them it's either that or I'll lie to them and give them another fake name, take their pick. Why they feel I should give them my real name I don't know.

how about making up an official 'real name' and use that everytime. I've been doing it for years and people still dont know my real name, even friends  :D

LOL, me either...I had actually found it last year lying beside a railroad track. I dont know how it got there, but when I tossed it in my car the aroma of genuine leather was so strong that I knew it was worth keeping.
