Sunburn :(
« on: 05 July 2010, 03:52:33 pm »
okay so, I stupidly spent the day on the beach... but I didn't even realise how strong the sun was until I got home and looked like a lobster.

I can barely move and don't know how I'm going to see clients for the next few days.

any one else suffering from this at the moment?
or just silly old me?

I never burn as I have Italian olive skin but I found for my daughter who is ghostly white and always burns even with sunblock that a nice covering of natural yoghurt takes alot of the sting away.
If you have an aloe vera plant handy break some of and squeeze into the yoghurt first ;D

The same thing just happened to me. It was only my chest, but made it even worse, since I now have a big red area on my chest and I'm completely white everywhere else. One of my regulars asked me today if I had been sunbathing. Yeah...

You could maybe get some aftersun lotion or stick to more natural remedies like that yoghurt with aloe vera. For me the pain usually disappears the next day, hopefully for you too!

Clients and sunburn. Ouch! I have no remedy other than waiting for the big peel to start and then moisturising the new skin underneath.

I would send you a virtual hug but it may hurt!

Lucy try natural joghurt as a Danielle advice.Put it on,leave it absorb and reapply again. It has always worked with me -and I feel I didnt peel as much also.

Also take a paracetamol which lower temperature(your body is overheated now).

Hope u feel better soon X

I dont burn very often as am olive skinned and usually wear SPF 30, however i will manage to burn some bit of me. (usually my feet which kills)

before I go to bed, I usually smother the area in Sudocrem (the stuff for babies nappy rash - but is used for other stuff) Just smooth it in, leaving a white layer which will absorb mostly overnight. Chuck an old t shirt on, and then sleep, and shower in the morning, and then chuck on some aloe vera. Usually does the trick. If its really bad sunburn then I do it for a couple of nights.

It is a bit of a nightmare specially if u don't like the smell of it. But it does work really well.

It also work really well on mosquito bites. In fact I always take a little tub of the stuff on holiday as it is great for a number of things

I am a brown girl, and I can and have burned. Painful as hell! Loose clothing, stay indoors, and lots of aloe vera. If the burning is really bad, try a face towel in cool water with a drop of peppermint oil or lavender essential oils. Good Luck.

You must be a different kind of brown girl LOL.

I dont like to sunbathe...but as soon as I notice by skin is 'burning', I immediately dive into the pool. My BF has a pool and he goes in almost daily, and I doubt that the sun in Europa is anywhere near as intense as it is in the southern states closer to the equator.

Personally, I cant understand why anyone would want to subject themselves to the 'degree' of torture. Anymore than 20 minutes during the summer is just asking for trouble. Even worse, your skin will never be the same again. Aloe Vera from the Garden of Eden won't be enough to reverse a life-long exposure to hell fire the sun

Oh Joey, I love getting a tan! I have always loved the sun. I will be out first thing in the morning and bake till about mid day. :) But Joey UV rays are still UV rays wether they are in S. Florida, or N. Europe. Ever been skiing? You can get a nasty sunburn from being up on a mountain in the snow.

True, but the angle of the sun down here is just so much more intense than I've noticed up north. I haven't been skiing yet, but if I decide to move to Denver, that will be exercise routine during the winter

I'm with you Violette, well oriental skin, but I still burn easily, but like a tan. Luckily I do tan easily and SPF30 ensures I bronze nicely without the burn.

If only it also prevented freckles - honestly - a chinky with freckles - absurde, but true, lol!

Just thought, it must be the Scot in me, duh.

I keep some aloe vera aftersun gel in the fridge when it's sunny, just in case. If I've burned, a nice cool shower and smothering myself in the cool aftersun usually helps.
Fake tan over the sunburn makes it look a bit better, I'm not sure this would be recommended but I do it and haven't had any bad reactions (yet lol)

Factor 25 works for me, along with a hat and loose cotton top. Must be getting sensible as I get older. One good thing I suppose  ::)

I am lucky, I microwave tan. I can spend about 30 minutes in a blazing sun a day and will have a lovely hazelnut tan in a few days.
