Has London turned Black?

Sounds like the Ash storm is engulfing the U.k. in a big dusk cloud of some kind. Is it really as bad as it seems?

I'm nearish London at the mo... lovely sunny skies all week! Not a bit of ash in sight... have seen pics of dust on cars and stuff, though think that's up more towards Iceland itself :)

No, the ash (from a volcano that erupted under a glacier in Iceland) is too small and too high up to have any effect on the ground. It's more or less invisible but might have affected aircraft engines, hence the recent ban on flying.

You can see some somewhat grubby cars, for example, but that's not necessarily connected. Having said that, over recent  years, there have been a couple of times when they've been noticeably sandy and that was apparently down to sand being carried by high altitude winds from the Sahara...

We're currently having some lovely spring weather.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Well i'm in Glasgow and last week I opened my curtains to see a very fine layer of volcanic ash on my windows. Hardly noticeable but my windows had been cleaned a couple of days before so thats how I noticed it.

Got this text this morning which, although it makes you groooooannn, also made me chuckle:

"Just been outside and got hit on the head by a lasagne, black forest gateau and a garlic baguette.  Must be the fallout from Iceland".

Note to Joey:  The Iceland referred to in that wee joke is our national frozen food chain supermarket.  (And the food tastes like  :-X).

I'm allergic to sulphur dioxide and I've been feeling pretty ill for the part few days.  I've not seen much in the way of ash though.

That's what has been on my car the last two days! I didn't know the ash was coming down! I thought there were just a lot of pollen. *idiot*

I'm stuck in France!! I've been trying to get home for days and the last week has cost me more than I can make in a month!! To add insult to injury, I've had to cancel 2 overnight bookings, not to mention 3 regulars!! I'm fuming!! I swear, I should have taken my chances and started swimming...

If only I was on a working holiday... Although, it would definitely be a way to practice my language skills whilst clawing back some of the money I feel like I've wasted... Wouldn't have minded if I was in the Ritz. The only good thing is that I'm eating fantastic pastries (pretty much all I can afford right now). I'd be happy never to see another croissant again, mind, but there's something very comforting about them when you've got kids screaming around you. And if one more French official asks me if everything's ok, I'm gonna lamp them.

Oh, for my bed. And a full English brekkie. With proper tea, not the nat's piss I've been drinking here. And being able to call people without worrying about the international expense. I'm sick of the people I went on holiday with and I'm craving normality, and dare I say it, clients.

Give me Ireland any day. Can't be the cattle market that it is here.  :'(
