Title: stockings
Post by: lailah terri on 08 January 2012, 01:08:26 am
Evening ladies!

Anyone got any suggestions for some hardwearing stockings? Ive gone through sooooo many in the past few months, ive tried the M&s ladder resist, regular ones, la senza ones, primark ones...

im really careful putting them on and taking them off, i just keep finding snags and ladders all over them. my last pair  got caught on my dress and i had a huge hole in them :( luckily it was a reg client with a sense of humor, he saw the funny side of it!

just need a stash of stockings that i can wear more than once.

I'm a fan of the M&S ladder resist ones, though you said you've tried them.  At ?4-ish a pop I'm pleased with how long they last.

I used to be a fan of What Katie Did's seamed tulle stockings (?10 a pair).  They have a pretty lace top and because they're tulle  - like a very fine fishnet - they last ages (and they don't look trashy like normal fishnets. Not that there's anything wrong with trashy ;D).  My only complaint with them is that they're one-size-fits-all and they were a bit big for me.  Norah Batty style ain't too sexy!

Ooh good tip I will try Asda, I have been looking to move over from Primark, which used to last me really well until relatively recently - strangely one of the pair would just 'go' at the top.  It has also been since I lost weight but surely my legs are even in terms of thinness!

Tesco stockings good, especially for larger ladies.

I'm glad this thread has started as it's been pissing me off for months trying to find a pair of stockings that will last and also fit.
I have big thighs, even when I am slimmer I have really curvy thighs and find that 'one size fits all' etc stockings just don't.
They pull up just over my knee and stop. If I really heave them up then they sit a tad higher with an ugly thigh muffin top!
 It's not a sexy look!!
Where can I get stockings for bigger thighs????

Thank god for this thread!

I use Ann Summers, and they're usually alright until you've worn them twice, or put them in the washing machine  ::) La Senza are alright, but to be honest, I don't think stockings are meant to last forever. Whoever makes them, seems to want them flimsy and easily-laddered. And so the search goes on... ::)

oooh ann summers, la senza, I feel a stocking shopping spreee coming on!

I always handwash mine, gives them a slightly longer life, I really only expect them to last maybe 2/3 times at most depending on how energetic the bookings are too  :)

I pretty much only wear fishnets, which are tougher. I use Ann Summers ones and usually get a lot of wear out of them unless I snag them on my boot buckles or something (which NO stockings are going to survive!).

I like Charnos 24 7 but I have a habit of catching my legs on a chair that has a velcro fastening on it - which ruins them.

Where can I get stockings for bigger thighs????

I'm fairly tall and definitely have curves so I always go for bigger stockings to make sure my legs aren't squidged!

There's a whole article on the main site (http://www.saafe.info/) called "Useful Links" which has a few handy links for shopping including one to StockingsHQ, which is where I buy a lot of my stockings and holdups. I always go for properly sized holdups so that I can choose the right size to fit me properly. 'One size' things only fit about three people in the world!

I second StockingsHQ - I have bought from there before when (I think) Amy recommended them and the delivery is quick, there are all price ranges and sizes, and I still have my opaque stockings intact 2 years later! x

Not strictly on topic, but this has reminded me of the shame of my first ever booking. (it's been enough time now that I can tell the story without completely dying)

It was an outcall, and I was wearing a basque and stockings to it, specially purchased from Primarni earlier that day. Getting ready, I put all the gear on, fastened the stockings at the front, and promptly found that I could not get them fastened at the back. If I stood up straight enough to get the dangly yoke to touch the stocking tops, then I couldn't get enough leverage with one hand behind my back to fasten it. If I bent over enough to be able to do the fastening with my hands, the strap wouldn't reach the stocking.

I had visions of having to cancel the booking, just because I couldn't put a pair of stockings on. I looked at all the sad, scraggy, not-purchased-today mismatched holdups mouldering away in the bottom of my underwear drawer, and knew they wouldn't cut it. I wondered if escorts were an exclusive breed of women who knew how to put stockings on, and as such I would never be admitted to the hallowed ranks.

I debated putting a post on here asking for advice, but figured surely to god I'd get banned as a troll. "Help, I can't put my stockings on for my first ever booking, can someone come round to my house and dress me"

So I was thrashing around on the bed, time ticking away from me, desperately trying to fasten them up, make-up sweating off my face, feeling terrible that I'd failed at the first hurdle, when suddenly it came to me.

Push. The. Fucking. Basque. Down. A. Bit.

I have this problem too, after trying hundreds of stockings over the years, and wasting lots of money, I  have found my faves... Jasper conran deep lace top hold ups (micro fishnets) from debenhams. They are about ?8 when not in the sale. But they last forever, don't give ,e thigh muffin top and I feel good in them, which is important to me for confidence in a booking! X

Matalan do lace top stockings and hold ups in black or nude for just ?2 a pair. I get really good wear out of them.
I love the Ann summers ones with red or pink lace tops, but they are absolute rubbish quality and only last a couple of times - for about 8 squid aswell  >:(

Ann Summers have a deal on their stockings and hold ups (with some really nice designs too) where it's 3 for 2 at the moment at ?7 a pair so ?14 for 3 - they aren't the longest wearing stockings but I have a few pairs that I've had for a year now and they are still going strong!

I had the same problem with the WKD microtulle, they're ok on probably a 12 or a above, or 5'4'' or above but shorter or slimmer and you've got problems!
Falke do a hold-up version that is very similar for ?20, although you may need to look on ebay.  Comes in ivory and black.  Pricey, yes, but they last *much* longer than any other stockings I've worn

Also I find the Charnos Run Resist pretty hardy.  But in general I just bulk buy at house of fraser whenever stockings are on sale and see them as collateral damage!

I splashed out on a couple of pairs of Agent P stockings back in October, I used to pay ?8 a time for La Senza or Anne Summers but they never lasted more than a week a pair, these Agent P ones cost ?25 which seems ridiculous amount to spend on a pair of stockings but they  have lasted and lasted and lasted.
I estimate since October I probably would have gone through 16 pairs of ?8 stockings @ ?128 when 2 pairs of AP has cost only ?50.
False economy for me in this case to go for cheaper ones.

Am amazed you can all remember where you got your stockings from.  I had a fantastic pair that cost around ?15. They lasted for ages and I loved them, but whilst remembering  that I got them from John Lewis and they were reduced I have no idea what make they were.  If I knew I'd def buy them again.  I do know that I've had M&S and Aristoc stockings that were pretty good and that really cheap ones are a false economy.

One of the pairs I've got on the go now look and feel fine when I put them on but a few minutes into the booking one of them starts rolling down my leg. At the end of the booking I take them off and chuck them into the drawer and then can't remember which pair it was and put them on again for the next booking, only to realise when it's too late that they're making a dash from my knee. Of course I can't remember what make they are to avoid buying them again.

Primark hold ups are either a hit or miss. I have to pairs of the same stockings...same size, design etc and one pair rolls down...but the other pair I wore for 8 hours last night....and they didnt budge!!! Weird!

Stockings are the bane of my life.

They add a good 20 minutes to the getting ready time.
You spend ages rolling one on, fastening- then find out the matching one is laddered and have to fine 2 matching ones of a different pair.
They are uncomfortable to wear ( especially under a sexy pair of Jeans ) so I find myself constantly dressed in business-woman gear to match. Ok at midday at a Hotel booking, but a pain at 10pm on a home visit.

Though, even when I worked in a supermarket, I wore them in preference to tights!  ;D

That's the reason I always try and buy exactly the same kind - at least if you rip one you can still wear the other  ;D

I like the M&S run resist ones for day to day stuff as they're cheap and last OK, but I prefer to wear ff nylons for work as I find them a lot tougher and more comfortable too. I don't bother with them if I think they won't be noticed or appreciated though, hence always having the M&S ones kicking about. The worst ones I ever had were from Superdrug, although they were so cheap I probably deserved it.

That's really interesting Amy, as I'm finding the exact opposite with my ff stockings :( I don't seem to be able to get through even an hours booking without the client putting a snag in them! I'm getting quite a lot of men asking me to wear them since I featured some in my last photo shoot. My heart sinks every time I'm asked. They are so expensive, and it just isn't cost effective when they are getting ruined so quickly. Even the seconds you can buy aren't especially cheap.

So any tips as to how I can preserve them much appreciated. Or maybye I should just make sure I don't wear any in my next photo-shoot ;D Which would be a shame as they look so beautiful on. You can't beat a nice pair of fully fashioned stockings!

Well I buy seconds from Stockings HQ which are usually about half the normal price and I rarely pay more than a tenner a pair, which can last for months before they get too ratty and I have to dump them. The ones I get most often are Gios because they fit me well, and I also like the Eleganti ones.

I'm always aware of things like belt buckles and watch straps and I ask punters to remove them pretty much straight away no matter which stockings I'm wearing, but I don't have any magic tricks regarding the nylons - I just don't seem to snag them like I do the stretchy kind, and even when they do get a little pull they don't really run. The only thing I can think of is that I'm maybe unconsciously more careful with the nicer ones when it comes to putting them on? I like the Cuban ones  :D.

I think I need to be more vigilant regarding watches, and belt buckles. I actually had a pair snag on a belt buckle last week, it made me want to weep.

I must also be incredibly heavy handed as I couldn't make a pair of frequently worn fully fashioneds last a month if I tried! Not even with the special nylon stocking gloves I bought for rolling them on :-[ It's true that they don't actually run as easily, but they make up for it by being murder for snagging!

I like the Gio brand as well ,Cuban or point heel my favourite. I find Cuban heel always seems to sell out quickly though. Clearly all great minds think alike ;)

If only everybody could just ask for me to wear my fishnet Jasper Conran hold-ups. I would save a fortune, and halve my getting ready time!

I use to wear Primark stockings and holdups, but they used to have a very short lifespan on me. In the past couple of months I've discovred Pretty Polly Nylons range at BHS and am super-pleased with them. Not only they are hardwearing, but they have bigger sizes an look better. At 6-12 pounds a pair, thay're actually more economical than Primark due to lasting well longer, for me at least.

Last bought stockings from there (or anywhere) March 2020 and they are still going strong! Have only worn a few times

Usually I get from ann summers now though, I used to buy primark but they ladder easily and the band is too thick on the top so they keep coming undone from the suspender clip, the one from ann summers they stay clipped in all day.

After years of doing the holdup thing with much frustration and cost, I went over to suspender style tights and got no negative comments and a couple of positive ones.

More recently I have even moved on to wearing normal tights at the start of a booking. I have had one negative comment - but that was from a client I don't want to see again for other reasons.  With nice undies, a good quality pair of tights can look sexy. I take them off for sex and that also helps keep them clean and ladder free.

Getting rid of holdups was a good move for me - more comfort and less expense.

I get mine from China. The FF ones cost around 3 pounds, and postage is free or a couple of pounds. They take around 10 days to arrive. They do some lovely seamed ones (not FF) with a matching coloured band at the top for about two pounds. Suspender belt clips can be touch and go, some are too big but the retro 8 strap sussiescost about 3 pounds too.

Prefer hold ups to stockings as the length on suspenders belts is always too long for me. I wear mine high. But finding a brand that doesn't roll down is hard.

Very much so, however in the Primark site now you can check a lot of items to see if they are in stock, obviously you can’t be guaranteed they will still be there when you go. Sadly my favourite hold-ups don’t look they they will be in my local one ever again

I have yes. M&S never seem to have the black lace top stockings in store anymore so have to order online.
As someone else mentioned, the quality of them has deteriorated too, the colour tends to be very patchy now.

Thanks for recommendations on Romartex on Amazon!
Usually hate hold ups because they either slip down or roll down at the top.
Ordered a black & a navy pair. Wore in my wee mini photoshoot with different outfit changes and also in a meet and they didn’t move an inch! Loved them.

It’s primary stockings...hold ups for me...I buy them in bulk...hand wash them a couple of times, reuse then throw away.

Any good Stockings if tall I'm 5'9 and the Stockings seem to never go over my knees or end up rolling down

I started with Ann Summers as I rarely wear stocking in my private life and they had been a present from hubby before we split so never used.

They lasted well and I have stayed with them.

I bought some of the Autograph ones in the big Moorgate store last month, so they're still gettable in some places. They're complete shit since they changed them though  >:(

Tesco have the hold ups with the red lacy top in again. Decent holding power and fairly robust.

They restock them every winter seemingly  :)

They have just started reappearing again in my usual M&S store, so maybe they are bringing them back for the winter season.

Agreed. They used to be great with a lovely fine lace top and very good quality. Now a nasty thick cheap, couldn't call it lace, top and patchy colouring in the leg. Still charge the same price for them though.

I really like the new top, I found the fine topped ones would droop the new ones are fabulous they stay on my leg better. I actually considered writing to M&S to tell them.

Haha just goes to show that we all like different things. I found the finer top more elegant looking but don't you think the dye is very patchy and uneven now on the stocking leg itself?

I don't but I notice this with other brands.

Might be because I'm outcall and also a cam performer, I value staying up power and comfort. I also have relatively  slimmer thighs so I like the grip, although the finer top looked more elegant they often literally fell off me.

I value staying up power too, since I keep my condoms tucked in the tops of the holdups and it's the only reason I wear them. I had no problem with the old design at all, but the new ones are so thick and cardboardy they just fold over at the top and then fall down.

They also seem to get holes in more than the old ones, and holes run which they never used to do  :(

I haven't yet encountered the holes issue.

As a big girl with super big thighs, I have always struggled with stockings being big enough for comfort and not just ripping on 1st wear...  until I discovered Snag tights!  They do a fabulous range of stockings, mock garters, fishnets, etc.. not cheap, but last ages!!

Am well fed up with Autograph. My hold ups keep falling down something chronic.

Have ordered 1 pair of Silky on Amazon and see how I get on.

I also like Silky stockings but do find them shady (although no one seems to notice and I receive a lot of compliments when I wear them), they are available in many colours such as white, cream, red, navy as well as usual nude, black, barely black. Also like the length and gripping lace top. I have both suspender stockings and hold ups but when I wear the holdups I sometimes have a reaction to the hold ups band - slight rash where the silicon band has been in contact with my skin.  However going off the above if I like them they probably won't suit anyone else. :-[

By the way Silky are stocked by several stocking websites, sometimes a colour or size is out of stock on Amazon but not on the independent websites and vice versa, sometimes the Amazon seller postage is disproportionate making the price less favourable. I also sometimes want to support the independents if I can.

I use sheertex tights and stockings. They are supposedly indestructible. Not sure if that’s totally true but they are definitely very hard-wearing! They’re quite expensive but I much prefer having a couple of pairs that I can use on rotation rather than buying, ripping and chucking cheap ones again and again..

The sizes run quite small and I wish they’d bring out a bigger range of designs and colours (particularly nude) - but overall they’ve definitely been my fave for durability :)

Yeah, deffo pricier! I paid £35 for mine but is more cost effective as I was only get 2-3 uses out of the Ann summers ones and I was always doing chaotic last-minute runs to the shopping centre before a shift  ;D

Wolford stockings are really good. They are on the pricer side, but they are the only ones I can wear over and over again, from what I’ve found so far. I also wear gloves when putting them on so I don’t break them, and remove them very gentle. Never let the men touch them as 9/10 they break them!!

I have found M & S hold ups fall down until I read recently on mumsnet if you dampen the grip area they stay on. This actually works! I can now buy them again with confidence.

Another tip I read online was to use hairspray but not tried that yet.

M & S have changed the packaging on the hold ups which are now sold as 2 pair packs.   The issue i had with them falling down, I don't have with the new packaging ones so could be they've resolved the hold ups.  I got 3 packets (6 psirs).  All been totally ok.

The denier I prefer is not the 40 or 60 denier. I see they have 15 denier at a huge price increase. From £6 to £10 or £14. Daylight robbery as it does not sell these in a two pair pack.

It is to be hoped the quality has now improved at the new much higher price! Will buy some soon.

I have just looked at the M&S website I can only find 10 denier, 2 pair pack £10.

Pour Moi stockings (Pour Moi are a different seperate brand that M&S website seems to be selling not their own brand) 15 denier 1 pair called 'Tied up' £16, Pour Moi 15 denier Dark Romance 1 pair £9.

But the M&S own brand are 2 pairs £10 which seems better value than previously.

All these are suspender stockings not hold-ups.

M&S own brand hold-ups are now 2 pairs 10 denier £12
