Help! What have I got....
« on: 21 September 2010, 11:31:43 am »
I have a cluster of raised white spots on the bottom corner of my lip.
Could this be an STI ?
I only got tested 2 weeks ago at the GUM, do I need a doctor or go back to the GUM ?

thanks

Or is it a cold sore?

without being able to see them we cannot give you an answer.

It could be the start of a cold sore, an STI or just Fordyce spots. Your best bet for anything medical that you are unsure of is to pop along to your doctor and get it checked.

They could just be little whiteheads or spots from stubble rash, I've never had one but I don't think cold sores start out like that.

sounds to me like a coldsore.
I am extremely prone to them and they usually start off as a cluster of small spots/blisters and will then turn into a scab.
They can last up to two weeks and are highly contageous so if you do have one then you wont really be able to work unless you maybe dont include kissing or OWO.

Good tips to get them to clear up a bit faster are:
Tea tree oil (the pure stuff, not the aromatherapy oil stuff. You can get it in chemists and some big supermarkets)
Zovirax can help a bit, and Compeed coldsore plasters are handy as they stop the coldsore being crusty and sore,
A supplement called l-lysine is excellent to take every day to stop them from coming back in the future (I havent had one for months since I started taking it and I used to get them at least once a month).

It is a coldsore, have not had one since I was a kid.  Feel sorry for you having these once a month!
I have some compeed and lots of other creams so hopefully it will go away soon!
thanks for the help.

I dont get them anymore but I used to get them every month when I was a teen.

If you are prone to them then definitely buy some l-lysine. Ebay and holland and barratts sell it and I havent had one for a long time since I started taking it. Even when I have been incredibly run down which was always the trigger for them.

I hope you dont have a bad one and it goes away asap for you. They are horrible things and used to cause me to be extremely self conscious
