Well done! The first one always hurts the most but yeah it's definitely down to personal preference, do whatever you're comfortable with :) The epilator sounds a bit scary though haha, although might give it a go just to see what its like!

Im a right lightweight when it comes to pain so waxing is out for me and I hate the rash that shaving leaves you with.  So as I do prefer to be totally shaven I did some research early last year for a personal shaver.  I came across the Cleancut shaver on Amazon and I love it.  Its a bit pricey but its worth it, google it and read the reviews.  It comes with two shavers, the first is a toothbrush type shaverer for the longer hairs and the other is the ordinary shaver with a foil head.  You need the hair to be quite short so thats where the toothbrush shaver comes in.  If you follow the instrutions and use it every day as I do, you are left with a very smooth surface and no rash at all.  I found that the foil head had to be changed just under a year of use but its not pricey.

I think your first waxing is quite painful, you don't really know wot to expect!! Don't go when you're on your period or just before as you will feel the pain more. I would love to have IPL even tho I'm not really a hairy person.

Been imaganing chimps grooming each & gave me a bit of a chuckle.  ;D

I've had the waxing at the beauticians a couple of times over the years - she does the whole lot in mega-quick time (no time to gasp between strips!).  Little tip she gave me - take a couple of ibuprofen/painkillers an hour before appointment - it takes the edge off of it.

Now I shave daily with the Venus (vibrating) razor - the vibes seem to stop the nicking and give a nice smooth finish.  Not cheap for replacement heads, but haven't found anything else better and I just keep a tufty bit at the top if that makes sense!  Have found some clients prefer fully shaved, some prefer hairy, some prefer a bit - definitely can't please 'em all in that department!

Now heading off to Amazon after the earlier recommendation!

I'm another who doesn't remove everything, I just shave around the necessary parts although I always shave armpits and legs most days - then again I do participate in a lot of sports.

Regards rashes and ingrown hairs I discovered Clinique clarifying lotion is the key, quick wipe over with the type  2 or 3 after shaving and irritation is much reduced indeed. This is intended as a toner for the face, but Clinique themselves actually advertised it's anti-shaving properties a while back.

Yep, what Improbablecats says.  {IPL}
However, I have other needs for my Coin ATM so that will have to wait.
I've been epilating instead of shaving for about 2 years.
This lasts longer but the result is not as smooth.
So, three weeks ago I tried something.
I epilated my legs in the evening and again the next morning.
Then I waited an hour or so to let the pores close.
Next I wet my legs in the shower, covered them in coconut oil at then wet shaved.

Smoothest legs I've ever had, lasts five days rather than 24-36 hours
and less irritation on my skin.
Result!   (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/smile.gif)

what does everyone do to sort out/prevent/heal shaving rash?

iv got the WORST breakout in my life! really needing to save money for tuition uni fees and i cant work as my fanny has a severe case of zits! its disgusting im so embarrased! i think its the heat.

iv got hydrocortizone cream from boots today, hope that helps. iv also been plastering on tcp, sudocrem, vagicil, canesten, femfresh, everything!

think i may start getting waxed, i tried doing it myself and that was a hilarious disaster! how long do you have to wait between waxes?

Tend skin.

Burns a little but use it every day to prevent ingrown hairs. I use Veet personally down there, epilate my legs and bikini line and shave my armpits!

Personally I find the aloe vera gel works well, I usually store mine in the fridge in this weather.

Also make sure you are using a clean razor and a shaving cream with any harsh ingredients. Oh and try not to wear anything too tight.

I swear I have the most sensitive skin in the world so now I use an electric shaver. It doesn't cut as close so I have to do it everyday but I find it much better. I still use a normal razor for the labia (lips), as it's easier to control but for everything else the electric razor works fine.

In the days after shaving use a gentle scrub, or a flannel with femfresh on, it works well too to prevent ingrown hairs and prevent the hair follicles from becoming inflamed. As casey said always use a sharp clean razor.

Be careful with the hydrocortisone as this thins the skin and can make the problem worse. Also don't use products with silicones or oil in them as this can also close the pores. Now that you have the problem I would recommend a gentle toner without alcohol, then soothe the skin with aloe vera gel and use cotton knickers to the skin can breathe.

You would probably have to build up to a decent waxing regime. Let the hairs grow in as much as you can and go from there. I have been getting a brazilian wax for years and more recently a hollywood - everything off - and I can go up to 6 weeks between waxes. I think with continued waxing the hair grows in less and less each time as the follicles get damaged and it grows in softer too. I go to a specialist salon to get it done and I thinks its worth the pain and money. You mention the heat and yes if you opt for waxing you will have to avoid a hot shower or sweating at the gym ect for 24 hours to avoid the same thing.... spots or a sore rash but in my opinion it's better than shaving. Hope you are all cleared up soon! x
