I use Nair wax strips that are meant for the face. They do a grand job.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

I needed to shave everyday, I switched to waxing which was just painful and then an epilator which was torture  then I discovered IPL handheld - best thing ever! So you shave your legs once a week, run the ipl over your legs a few times (doesn’t hurt at all, just slightly warm) and hey presto my legs &  silky smooth for ages. Continue every week for 2 months or so and the hair is just getting less and less each time. Worked amazingly on my bikini line too.
Since lockdown I haven’t shaved them and only now I’m getting a few hairs.
However IPL only works best if you’re pale with dark hair - ideal for me.

If you get waxing isn’t there a week it’s quite hairy before your next wax? As hair is needed for the waxing.

Yes EscortX but it's finer hair unlike the bristley rough kind of hair you get if shaving every day.

I haven’t touch my bush since mid March . I’m planning on going back to work mid September and I am already dreading having to shave 5 days a week again  :FF

Would you wax instead of shaving ?

As I age, my skin becomes more sensitive and can no longer tolerate hot wax. Shaving has become problematic and whatever kind of razor and shaving gel/cream/foam I use, I get the most horrific razor burn.

What is the best way to calm it? And would be appreciative of any razor/shaving balm recommendations to tide me over until I buy a Philips Lumea IPL.

Thanks in advance  :)

I use Nivea for Men Sensitive Cooling Shave Gel along with a non-branded razor that is a knock off of the Gillette Mach 5. I used to have horrendous ingrowns and stubble rash and this has really sorted me out.

I also follow the tips given earlier in this thread, like don't rub dry, just pat gently and leave to air dry, cotton underwear, etc

I had the full waxing done and just a quick shave  over the areas when they grow back.i use a zero perfumed shower gel and warm water with the razor.

Tried Nivea, brings me out in a rash, sadly. Been using a man's razor too. The rash is mostly on my bikini line where my knicker elastic sits, I have had to give up wearing knickers (unless I have a booking). Instead, I wear men's cotton trunks as the knicker elastic was rubbing the rash and making it worse.

I have been waxing/shaving for over 30 years, and my increased sensitivity is a recent thing, I think due to the menopause as it's got worse since I've become post-menopause. Hopefully once my new HMT prescription kicks in, my skin will be more tolerant again.

I feel ya on the menopause! Luckily I haven't had skin issues but the sweats are awful, and weirdly I've found I have new food intolerances.

Thankfully HMT has banished the hot flushes and (constant) sweats, as well as a myriad of other issues.
Sadly, gut issues/becoming intolerant to various foods are a really common for menopausal woman but it's not a symptom many are aware of and don't connect the dots.

Anyway, back on topic, I think I'm just going to have to invest in an IPL sooner rather than later as I don't think my skin will take another shave  :(

I bought an IPL - I think it was a Phillips Lumea - about 7 years ago. It was very effective on my fine hairs (upper lip and chin) but bugger all use on the coarse, dark hairs on my legs and pubes. They do state on the sales info that it's less successful on dark hairs.

Really, that's interesting. I had one about 5/6 years ago and it worked wonderfully on my pale skin/dark leg hair/bikini line. However, I didn't realise it needed to be recharged bi-annually, so mine died and I can't resurrect it, hence weighing up whether to buy a new one.
