Shaving/Veeting/waxing, which do you prefer?
« on: 27 February 2012, 08:19:40 pm »
So at the grand age of 36 I decided that enough is enough and I'm going to try with waxing!!!!  ::) I made an appointment on Saturday for this afternoon and hoped that there would be enough hair to pull out, so to speak! Sadly I'm nowhere close! So I'm stuck with the stubble look  :( I've made a new appointment for Thursday and hoping I'll have acquired the necessary growth to get it done at last!

I figured that seeing as it's that time of the month and therefore I'm not working it would be an ideal time, despite reading you are more sensitive down below at this time!

My question is how do you girls who do wax get around this? Do I really need to take a week off every month (give or take) to allow for regrowth or should I just stick to the old razor? Gutted that I'm out of action as it is without the itchy horrid regrowth I'm putting up with!

Any tips very welcome!  :FF

Hiya,

I know exactly how you feel! I used to get waxed regularly purely for the fact the more you wax the less the hair grows back and much thinner at that and then eventually no growth at all. But then it started to get a bit expensive (being a student and not really working) and started to shave again. It was horrible! I'll never go back to shaving just because of the itchyness it caused.

But the regrowth was always the problem too with work, I used to get waxed every 5-6 weeks and the regrowth just looks horrible, I found myself apologising to clients about the hair just because I hated it so much!

But after about 5 or 6 waxes in a row I found the hair stopped growing back so bad and was much much thinner. I think it's worth sticking with though definitely! You'll see the results after a while, it might just be worth giving it a go and see what happens. Its less maintenence (I always found shaving took forever) and who knows after a few goes you might see the benefits I did!

Thanks Lexi, that was the way I was thinking, I don't mind the shaving as much but it's the rashes that I hate once in a while! I'll see how I get along with it and fingers crossed I can keep at it!  :)

I hate to put a dampner on things, but everyone is different when it comes to waxing/shaving etc.  I trained as a beauty therapist and was told that waxing is meant to reduce hair growth over time, however this is not the case as I found out.  I waxed for years and gradually the hair around my bikini line got thicker and started expanding, not to mention the amount of ingrowing hairs I was getting.  I stopped in the end as it was too much hassle.
I'm not saying this will happen to you Diana, by all means give it a go, as you might be one of the lucky ones like Lexi, but if you find that you're like me, then you may have to go back to shaving or find an alternative method of hair removal.

TMI warning...
I find that my bikini line has diminished to near nothing after a year of waxing, monthly. The regrowth around the labia is a bummer as I feel like a piece of fruit gone fuzzy! Haha.

Nonetheless, the worst that's going to happen when we have stubble is that the punter won't want to go down on us... and many of the women on here don't allow or want that anyway. My personal feeling is that I'm smooth enough to show for my purposes and those who care THAT much can book me in same day as my wax.

That being said, I do have a friend who is doing laser removal on her ladybits. OUCH!

Argh! Thanks Dexi, better to hear all stories and as you say everyone is different! I think I will end up going back to shaving as I hate the stubble!!  :-\ But I'll give it a good go for starters just in case I'm one of the lucky ones, it would be a first! LOL! Just a question with regards to the ingrowing hairs, which I get when shaving sometimes anyway, did you find ex-foliating helped at all with those?

Thanks Tera, if any hair goes full stop after waxing that's got to be a bonus! LOL! I hadn't even thought about seeing people during the stubbly stage, I guess there's nothing stopping me warning them and if they're still eager to see me then at least they've been warned... now why didn't I think of that? D'oh! Ah well it's still that time of the month at the mo anyway and with a management inspection on Friday morning I think I'm going to be out for most of the week annoyingly anyway.  :( Still the house will look spick and span ready for the weekend and then full on back to it next week with hopefully a lovely smooth bottom!  8)

Thanks again girls, what would I do without guys?

xxx

Exfoliating didn't do anything for me, but as I stated before everyones different.  I used to have to use a needle to brake the skin and then tweeze the hair out.  Someone did mention on another thread about a product called Tend Skin.  I've never used it, but the girl who mentioned it swore by it, so it might be worth a try.  You can tell me how you got on with it. :)

I have been shaving for ages  as i like it when clients go down, . unfortunatly the effect of ingrowing hairs in the past 4 months or so and bad appearance down there has given me no choice but to grow a short style there i will get a complete wax in a few months! just feel like a plucked chicken when they have removed it all by wax!!!!

not that it makes much difference, but I do find that "timely" waxes or waxes when I'm really stressed out hurt more. And I ALWAYS pop about 600 mg of ibuprofen--my low grade painkiller of choice-- about an hour before I'm on that chaise with legs spread!

Yes I'd read that timing was rather important, I'm dosed up on ibuprofen at the mo due to period pains and an inflamed nerve, it never rains does it? LOL! I do have quite a high pain threshold and when she did a couple of patch tests yesterday it wasn't a problem, fingers crossed!

Try epilation. If you don't want to do it full time, just epilate between waxes, for a little tidy up.
I'm seriously considering laser removal though, some good deals on groupon.
Let go of my ears! I know what I'm doing!

I agree there are pros & cons. I'm trained as well & do find everyone is so different. The hairs should diminish as time goes on for most people, exfoliating I find does really help. Ingrowing hairs are always gonna be there whether you wax or shave for some people. With waxing your hair should grow back thinner & finer. Sometimes you can pull the hair out with the root ball  attached hence no more hair in that follicle.

It's just a matter of personal preference.

I wax, epilate and have had laser.  Personal preference as I just don't like stubble at all.

At the moment there are really good deals to be had on groupon for multiple sessions of IPL hair removal, which I'm currently having. Two sessions in (out of six), it's already working really well, and it's completely permanent. And it hurts significantly less than waxing (which has to be done over and over again! And ingrowns!!)
