Title: Secret Diary Of A Call Girl
Post by: Josslynn on 09 April 2012, 07:41:24 pm
This is a t.v series and it's the BEST show ever! It's based on a London Escort who is insanely beautiful and talented. You can watch the series online or on t.v. Just something you ladies might be interested in :)

It's been and gone here, years ago I think - is it still on? I don't like light entertainmenty things and found it insufferable beyond one episode (and I did try), but provided you realise it's complete fantasy and strictly for entertainment only I suppose it's harmless fluff; I think it was quite popular when it was first on (if for no reason other then that prostitutes were shown doing something other than street work).

DO NOT view it as a documentary or instructional film, for God's sake  ;D.

I'd challenge the notion that she is insanely beautiful and am not sure about her talents unless sitting in the back of a black cab requires some kind of skill, but I haven't watched much of it either.

I thought it was a waste of time......not realistic at all, from what I remember she never had timewasters, lived on millionaires row, always woke up looking glam, etc.Abit of fun maybe yea,but nothing to do with reality, not in my part of the world anyway.

She can spread out ?50 notes in a perfect fan shape to mark them with her checker pen :D. Actually I seem to remember from the episode I saw that she could have sex with her knickers still on, which must save time.

I'm afraid I didn't much like the TV show but I absolutely hated the books. Maybe my expectations were too high but I found them absolutely tedious. I know Dr Magnanti (the Author) has a lot of fans here though so maybe I should be careful what I say?!

I hated the books, so depressing.

Of the series I watched about 3 (or 6? They may have been doubled up) and really liked them.  Her facial expressions made me laugh, they were spot on!

I must say I loved the books and the TV series, I must be odd! Really miss the TV series as it didn't half make me chuckle at times! Wouldn't expect them to show the real nitty gritty behind the job but it certainly opened your eyes to some of the requests that we can get! Reading the thread about food play  made me think of her food play booking  ;D

I actually didn't like the books either - I must confess the character Dr Magnanti portrayed did seem funny and intelligent, but she just didn't seem all that nice. From what I recall she took on the 'I'm one of those women who all other women are insanely jealous' kinda moto. I'm a sucker for sisterliness.

There was one bit of the book where she discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, but rather than confront/ dump him, she continues to obsess over his emails, and grate on about how ugly (I can't remember the words she used) the other girl was, who it would seem had no idea of her existence.

I mean, good for the good Dr for putting her story out there (and I think the books are more, by far, 'realistic' than the programmes which are a good deal jazzed up - although I found I like her 'character' better ) but unlike the popular press I didn't feel that the actual prostitution element was the book's biggest issue in term of female character portrayal.

Oh yes I remember that as well from many moons ago!!! It did make me laugh loads and much more closer to real life I guess, although back then I would never have though I'd be a WG now! I always remember the man with the rubber glove fetish, one of my first punters looked just like him and it freaked me out! LMAO!

Hahaha SHE is wonder woman! I showed this to my one friend who knows so he could better understand my work. He was mortified and said " NEVER EVER MAKE ME WATCH THAT AGAIN!!"

Personally I like it

Secret Diary Of A Call Girl
I loved her book and I read it after I was about eighteen months into Whoring,
so I could certainly connect with some of her stuff.
My copy is underlined and tons of margin notes.
It's not a 'How to' guide but some of the things she wrote were very useful to my business.

Also on the first read, I was 100% sure that this was a prozzi rather than one of a number of authors & journalists that the media suggested had penned it. It was Brooks take on things, the little nuances, that only someone who escorts regularly would write
or conversely, pick up on.

The show was fun.
I love Billie Piper but she was so miscast. Too young and she doesn't successfully portray the highly educated person that the real Belle (Brooke) is.
She is less Belle, and more Belle-lite.   ;D

Real life Belle might have been much more educated but when I saw her real picture (or was is in a program?) I felt like when reading that Daily Mail article about that ugly woman who has a hard time being so beautiful in her own head.

Who would you cast for the role if you had the choice?

Without hesitation Patricia Hodge (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0388092/) as she was in Rumpole of the Bailey (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078680/fullcredits) Perfect for the role
(If Secret Diary had been made 30 years earlier, like before Brooke was born.... :P)

Only 7 years between Brooke & Billie - so in the TV series playing roughly the correct age that Brooke would have been when prozzying.

Just checked: Brooke was 27-29 when escorting. Billie was 24/25 when filming Secret Diary.

I watched the first episode years ago with my boyfriend who didn't know I was working.  I switched it over because I couldn't deal with it.  I recently downloaded the first series and loved it!!  Its so far away from my working life but I can realate to aspects of it.  I ended up becoming addicted to it and spent 3 great Saturdays staying in, in my jammies watching it.  It's just telly and I take it all in the same way I watch every other tv show.

Ok, Billie's performance lacks conviction and does not carry Brooks depth of maturity and education.  IMO.

I love this show! I admit, it does glamorize the profession a considerable amount, but there are high class courtesans who get that kind of work. I just think it portrays the job and the punters in a fairly positive light for the most part. Shows that working girls are all different sorts, as well as the clients.

And I love Billie. xo.

I saw about 15 minutes of it and turned it off. That was a few years ago.  Load of rubbish. But I'm not into chick-lit or Bridget Jones kind of fantasy stuff either, which for my own personal taste, it falls under.

I recently found this show and watched all episodes in one weekend.
I actually don't feel it's that far away from real escort life. Of course on TV you have to make it seem more exciting and glamorous.
But I was stunned how much I actually related to her and the way she sees her job.
A lot of things were quite deep and made me very emotional.
Funny when she tells her guy: I had sex with (the exact number) men.
A little hypocrite I found that she also enjoys sex with many guys but expects her bfr to be faithful telling him: "This is just my job!"

Absolutely loved this show.

I haven't seen any of these shows/movies except The Client List, which is entertaining but entirely unrealistic and all of her clients are dead ringers for Brad Pitt circa 2001...although I did find it helpful that she stashed her cash in a cookie tin in the freezer, one day my sister turned up unexpectedly and I had a ton of cash on the counter to deposit, so I threw it in the freezer til she left haha!

There is an Australian series called "Satisfaction" on Hulu that's pretty good and probably more realistic than anything else I've seen.  It's about a group of prostitutes working from an upscale brothel, and a lot of the interactions with clients bring back memories for me of really random likes and fetishes!  It's a bit dramatic but relatable.  I also enjoyed the movie "The Girlfriend Experience" which stars Sasha Gray, an ex-porn star who's managed to cross over into mainstream Hollywood.  For half the film I thought it was a real documentary.  She's an upscale escort in NYC and while she's not my style at all- very dry and cold with clients, not what you'd expect with a GFE- I could relate to the solitary lifestyle and how she talked about her appointments.  It's on Netflix, or at least was a few months ago :-)

If you're able to tour, NYC is one of the most lucrative markets in the Western world and definitely in the US, and all the men I've encountered working there have been respectful, clean and intelligent.  But yes, serious repercussions if you get caught.  Unfortunately here in the US there's the mentality that every single prostitute has been trafficked, is held against her will and forced to work by some violent pimp who will beat her and take all her money whether she does the job or not.  Even the independent high end escorts who arrive at their outcalls in head to toe Chanel must be under the control of some horrible man and in need of being rescued  :FF  A lot of the clients I see will say things like "you can stay with me if you ever need a place" or "if you have to get out just call me and I'll save you."  Umm, save me from making loads of cash on my own time doing something I enjoy?  Ok, sure...lol.

Ahahaha?I had this too.
"I'll take care of you baby"
"If you ever need a timeout?call me!"

But I get this in Switzerland as well.
Loved NYC in every way. And yes men are super respectful and pay SOOOOOOO much cash:-))) hahaha.
I find New Yorkers to be the most generous men in the world btw.
Will only marry an American.

Do people go to prison over there for it of is it usually just cautions/fines?

Also what's Hulu?

If you've come over from here, you'll be deported and you can probably forget about ever going back. I've been going for years (as posted in relevant threads on the forum) and never had problems - if you screen properly it's unlikely you would either.

Also what's Hulu?

Google is your friend :).

If we really have to dig up ancient threads, can we please keep them on topic?

Hulu is a website that shows television shows, a bit like Netflix only it has a lot of currently running shows. You have to subscribe to see most content and that's impossible to do without a US billing address.

I can't answer your question about what happens to prostitutes with any real authority, but I can tell you that:

Every state is different in how they prosecute different crimes. That is, something legal in one state can be illegal in another and then you have different sentences as well as varying amounts of interest by local law enforcement. So, the situation will be different in NYC, LA, Chicago, etc.

That said, it is unlikely that anyone would get a prison sentence for one act of prostitution. I've never heard of it, at any rate. What is entirely likely is you will be held overnight until you can go before a judge. If you are arrested on a Friday night, you may sit in the pokey all weekend and then be taken in front of the judge on Monday morning, wearing whatever you had on when you were arrested. This appearance may result in being dismissed (unlikely), or your pleading guilty and being ordered to pay a fine as you leave, or perhaps given a court date with a bail set (if you don't plead guilty.) It is possible you will be held without bail until trial but that would be someone charged with a serious violent crime so extremely unlikely to happen to a prostitute.

Edited to add: what Amy said sounds true to me. You are unlikely to get arrested. I was just answering your question about what might happen if you are arrested.

I've heard about TV show but never got around to watching it until a month or so and absolutely love it. Mostly season 1 to 3. Season 4 was a little meh. The bloody season finales kept having me in tears, particularly in season 2 and 4 where she realize that she could never make it work with Alex and Ben. I think it's an emotional reality check. I've been single while escorting all this while and recently, I have been opening up to being in a 'proper' relationship with an available man. Client or not, that's a whole different topic. But watching it, I think it hits hard how tough it can be to balance being someone's gf and a whore at the same time. And the age old question if any man can accept a prostitute as a partner.

I also identify with a lot of the aspects on the show and think it's quite brilliant. However, I do agree that it does seem to glamorize the profession and not enough of the negative daily aspects are dealt with in depth.

Full disclosure, her books played a significant influence in me transitioning about thinking of being a ho to actually being one  ::)

I've seen the programme as well a bit far fetched but not to bad for television.

What seemed to catch my eye was just how gullible guys can be when it comes to paying for sex.

Most of the acting was good and less fake noises when a guy is pounding me x  ;D

I did notice she used a agency but doubt using any adult working websites on television would be accepted, but would have been funny if she had used saffe to write up about her good or bad day,as this would be noticed by the guys that pay for sex that we are watching you x :) :)
