Ok,
trust goes two ways.

I'm a guy, my real name is Bob. I'm married, good job
and nervous as hell.

Give you my number straight away...come on, you might call me and fuck up my life.
So I withhold my number, at least initially, till I feel I wish to contract with you.
Paranoia is NOT a one way street.

Oops!
.......Bob typed this at his desk at work, and forgot to shut the window before going for a coffee....
ha ha ha!
My name is Geoff.
I work with Bob & he is totally unaware that I often visit Providers, lots of different ones.
The easiest time for me to call is from  work
WHERE ALL CALLS ROUTE THROUGH THE INTERNAL SWITCHBOARD WHERE EVERY CALL IS WITHHELD.
I'll ring from my mobile to book though,
but don't understand the attitude of most escorts to this phone thing.
I'm on a pretty good salary of about ?15 an hour.
You lot are on ?150 an hour
and at that rate of pay I would expect you to be more professional with all calls.

A lot of those withheld numbers are often men asking, basically, how quickly they can give you a handful of ?twenties!
{remember kids, nervous first timers cum quicker, so your actually hourly rate soars to ?600 or ?800 per hour on a pro-rota basis}

Geoff, get off Bob's computer.

I'm Mike,
Geoff & Bob's boss.
I've no connection at all with escorts,
but thinking things through,
a PAY AS YOU GO  SIM card costs 99 pence. ?5 top up and I'm good to go.
So a mobile number is possibly a veneer of protection
{though I agree with the practical appointment aspect: contacting clients back when you or they are running late}

I'm sure no one here on this board
WOULD EVEN CONSIDER GIVING OUT THEIR HOUSE NUMBER TILL:
THEY SEE THE CLIENTS CAR IN YOUR ROAD,
& NOTED MAKE MODEL, REGISTRATION NUMBER
AND THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE OCCUPANT IN IT.

OR IF THE CLIENT IS ON FOOT, TAKEN A DIGITAL PHOTO OF THEM.

My name is River,
and I have a lot of voices in my head
but they all sound like me!!!

I mostly ignore witheld numbers, but if it's quiet I'll pick up and say "Please call back without witholding your number" then put the phone down before they can "just ask one question..."

ONCE, in the twelve months I've been independent, has a genuine client then called back, number showing  ::)

Don't reckon I'm missing much...

Hi everyone

I started displaying my number on AW about 6 weeks ago, within 2 weeks I installed a call blocker.  It bars payphones, withheld and unavailable numbers and also allows me to add infinite numbers into my black list.  I can block sms and calls too.

What it does is let the call ring once on their side and then it drops.  The only notification I receive is a little envelope on my phone which I can go into whenever and see how many of these fools have called and when.

Really, I don't have the time or patience to be dealing with them or stringing them along, it's great.  I also added on my profile that these calls are automatically rejected by call blocker software and since then the amount of withheld calls has been drastically reduced.

Thank goodness for this type of software.
I've also downloaded a version to my contract phone.

Goodbye forwever withheld callers.. adios.. see you later.. don't let the door hit you on the way out  :-*

I do answer withheld number, plenty of timewaters dont withhold there number thats why i have a list of about 50 "ignores"

I am also the sort of person who might put there phone on "withhold number" for a reason and forget to turn it back till my husband nags me enough

I also get calls mostly from traveling business men who call from withheld work phones, hotel phones etc

If it's a timewaster it's a timewaster I try and spot them quick and outsmart them like a guy i had yesterday who could've have gone either way: it was a perfectly acceptable call, booking wise, till the little bit, which i talked over, where he wanted to make sure i could cope with is extremely large manhood lol

I don't answer them now - I have occasionally in the past if I wasn't busy, or was bored or whatever but I don't take bookings from them as I won't make arrangements with any client I have no way of contacting if something happens. I used to just tell them to ring back without their number withheld, and I think maybe two did out of God knows how many; not enough to make me worry about the lost trade now I ignore them :).

I don't think it matters whether or not you do provided you make it clear - if nothing else it demonstrates to me they either haven't read my site, or read it and ignored my instructions which annoys me more than the actual withholding of number. I'm gearing up to get an Android phone after Christmas and can't wait until I can get them blocked altogether  :D.

Amy

My PAYG phone I use for AW isn't an android phone, it's a sony ericsson that runs on Symbian software.

I downloaded a trial version from: www.mcleaner.com

They have the software for all types of phones, so check it out.

The contract phone is an android, so I got a free version for that, there are many to choose from on android software, some free, some paid subscriptions.

It's nice never to be bothered by the withheld folk.

I understand that some people may be calling from a switchboard, etc, but nowadays when you can pick ip a mobile and sim for so cheap there's really no excuse.

In my 3+ years of escorting I have only ever known one client who was genuine call on a withheld number. I asked him to call back on a recognised number and sure enough he did. On the other hand I have heard hundreds of the lamest excuses as to why the client has had to call me on a withheld one. Invariably these people have proved to be timewasters.
When I answer calls I have a set of rules and protocols to take into account nerves etc but break my rules on the phone and the chances are you will break my rules if I see you. I do know for a fact that the withheld guys were wasting my time as I devised a simple way of checking. Arrange a booking and see if they turn up. They didn't. Now if I do answer a withheld call I simply say I do not give out information unless you call me back in the appropriate way.
I broke my rule about a month back and allowed some guy to ramble on asking question after question, out of the blue he suddenly said something totally inappropriate. I told him if he blurted out anything like that again it would end the call. He lasted precisely two more sentences >:(
Although I obviously can't tell others how to run their business, escorts who do let guys take advantage of calling on withheld numbers do, in my mind, undermine the fact that most professional escorts don't. For goodness sake most directory listings add 'Calls from withheld numbers and SMS will be ignored' automatically.

In my experience those calling withheld don't confirm, don't show and out of the two I have seen 1 gave me worthless currency. If I'd had a number for him I'd have at least been able to go to the police - even if he did chuck the sim card away there may have been some way to find him, or at least I would have been able to make a complaint.

I have a very funny man who is calling repeatedly once or twice a week for about 8 months now asking for details. He says he's not called me before, but it's the same accent and manner of speach. I'm now actually going to be rejecting all withhelds as it's a waste of my time answering them. Professional?yes it is as I'd rather spend my time answering genuine callers, who can show their number.

Remember a chap about 1 year ago said he couldn't show his number because he was married. Ahem, at least 50% of my clientele are in the same situation and have no problem showing their number. I told him to stop phoning for an appointment since I'd not be able to give him one if he could not give me his number.

Simples.
