Title: Police Scotland idiots or have I missed something?
Post by: Caledonia on 22 May 2020, 01:38:09 am
So I've just had a page from Police Scotlands website thrown in my face in which it states that prostitution is illegal in Scotland. So have I missed something as last I knew it was still legal or are Police Scotland just idiots that don't know their own laws?

What do you mean thrown in your face? Can you elaborate please? Maybe a client faking it trying to worry you?

Contact NUM and send them that page and then the police that work there can maybe contact them and put them right about the law.

Hey, Im sure the law is the same in Scotland, as in, buying and selling is legal but there are laws around sex work which are illegal (like street soliciting, etc).

Can you put a link up, or a screen grab?

xx

Caledonia, I looked on the police site, it does say that in the Tourists and Visitors section. That's a fun holiday then! I emailed them about it a moment ago, lets see what they say.
Surely there's Scottish sex workers advocacy groups who can advise?

Yes that's the section I seen it in. I commented on it on my Twitter and tagged them.

They replied within the hour, I'm impressed!
'the information is freely available on the internet'. Curiouser and curiouser!

It might be freely available but if the first site you see is the official police site and it says it is illegal you are going to go by that.

Sounds to me like the police are trying to put men off of paying for sex!

Isn’t that false advertising really?

English Collective of Prostitutes kindly replied to my enquiry this week. The statement on Police Scotland website is incorrect. There's no truth in it. Bring out the strumpets!

Google Scot Prep Org Workers Toolkit - 'it is not illegal to work as a sex worker in Scotland'

I knew it hadn't changed lol. I mean it would have been mentioned on here for one. But seriously we have enough difficulty with people thinking our work is illegal without the police verifying it for them.
