Photo Groupon
« on: 16 August 2011, 10:03:59 am »
Hey all-
I woke up to see a Groupon from Shine studios available, today-- London Groupon. It's ?39 for the session and two images on CD and one print. In the interest of warning, additional images on the CD are costly-?49 each. Seems ridiculous but the photos were amazing... anyone want to see mine, let me know and I'll give you a PIN to the ones in my private gallery.

Just thought I'd let you know..
xx

?49 each for something that costs them nothing more is appalling!
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

It's just how they make their money. Groupon keeps most of what you pay, so I wouldn't expect the studio to even cover their costs from someone who just brings in a coupon they've bought. Charging for extra files means that with luck they'll come out with a profit. I think some photographers doing vanity-type work offer free shoots and then charge for any pictures you want to keep, which is pretty close to what's happening here.

It IS costly, but the time they took to get me ready, the privacy and care taken by the photographer, and the amazing quality of the photos made it well worth it for me. I am printing most of them off to frame for myself. I hate little as much as I hate photos of myself, but these made me fall in love with myself, my body... As I said, the cost is high but the quality is incontestable...
Just thought I'd pass it on....

Hooray if you're happy - I am not their target market!

Presumably if they didn't have large spaces on their booking calendar, they wouldn't be on Groupon anyway. It would be interesting to see their figures (and what you actually get - for ?49, I'd want RAW files, not JPGs). Given that they have already done all the work, the cost to add more to a CD or card is virtually nil. If they charged less for it, they would get more people taking them up on it (or having more of them). I'd wonder if they haggle and walk if they didn't, but again, I am not...

I'm confused now. Does this offer mean that they do a day's worth of photoshoot from which you can select 2 different images? If so, would those 2 (or any more images which would cost extra) include proper editing by them? There is afterall a huge difference between unedited snaps and high quality, professionally edited versions of same snaps.
Prostitution - now I want it my way.
Or no way.

If I recall, on was fully retouched and the other not. But, mark words...you'd be hard-pressed to find someone as UN-photogenic as I am but the way they did my makeup, my hair...the lighting, the photographer. I spent a small fortune there (couple hours' work) and bought the Groupon again the other day. This time I am saving up...
You're not obligated to spend/buy more. But, if you're new to this, it may be helpful for you to see angles and lighting and makeup for your own home-made photos, later.

Groupon has a London studio offering boudoir shoots often.I just make sure I check their gallery first before I buy! And--again- for some of us the time is too much of an investment as well. I'm not trying to evangalize, I'm just sharing my experience and reaction.
