Title: Notes
Post by: Adele7 on 24 May 2017, 08:29:49 am
For some mental reason I somehow feel that I need to put all the heads the same way on my pile of notes. Anyone else do the same?

I also noticed that I receive the majority of my notes in the same way when my England clients are paying. However, in Scotland and Ireland I receive them upside down and all sorts.

yep lol I do this too. Makes it easier to pay into the bank machines & creates a sense of order.

The bank machines have accepted them out of order for years, and so have the branch counters. And if your theory is correct about order, the English punters are very well organised ;)

Yes I do it too. I bet some may call it OCD though!

Doing little things like that can actually give your mind a break from other things in some situations. I was reading somewhere that soldiers sometimes do things before battle that would otherwise be viewed as compulsive, but it's a strange way of meditating if it makes sense!

Out of curiosity, did you always do that? Or, if you went away on a long holiday would you still feel compelled to do the same thing?

When I go away on holiday I usually dont have such a large bundle of cash so have never really paid attention to what I do. But regarding notes I get paid with, yes, I've done it for as long as I can remember =)

I was trained to do this when I had my first job working in a cash office, so yes I always do it. It makes me twitchy if they're out of order! I also stack my notes from highest denomination to smallest, e.g. 20s at the back, 10s in the middle, fivers at the front. If I get a 50 note I always get slightly annoyed because it doesn't fit in my purse neatly, I have to fold it in half otherwise it catches on the zipper. So I have to go and pay those into the bank as soon as possible, otherwise every time I open my purse I get annoyed all over again  ;D

So was I, in the sense that the manager of a pub I used to work in was obsessed with it and would screech 'Queen's head to the BACK!' down the bar at us if they were crooked in the till :).

To keep track, I also put them in neat bundles of 100 with the last note folded around the others and feel uncomfortable if any bundle has mixed denominations in it  :(.

Oh god yes, if I've got 14 twenties and two tenners I get really sad about it!

I do it all, facing the same way/biggest denomination at the back etc etc and have a system of gathering strict piles of the same total and they are kept in envelopes with amount and date saved etc written clearly on the front, this is for my own convenience and records.  Office/cash desk background is to blame but I like it, it feels orderly and my life is like that too but not obsessively so.

One thing I don't like about money (the only thing) is the Scottish notes which have all kinds of different styles and characters on them, not much chance of keeping them all in a uniform way, but I don't get too many of them anyway.

Yes Scottish notes are very messy and annoy me. I need to place the largest same note bundles to the back but with the rest of the notes stacked in the same orders as previously mentioned.

For anyone using paying in Scottish notes using the self service machine, apparently they don't like Clydesdale notes (they have a problem with the silver strip thing), so you have to put in strip down or wont accept them.

I'm lucky in that my bank is only a couple of minutes from my flat so I can go every day and as many times as I like rather than accumulate cash, but I always use the paying in machine and spend ages before I set off making sure that the notes are in order and without the corners folded over or anything. I also don't like paying in not-round numbers, although I can now manage ones that end in 50 rather than whole hundreds.

When I was little I couldn't get out of bed unless the number on the digital ended in a five or a zero either but I think that was mostly because I don't like getting up.

I just pay them in, if I'm using one of those fancy ATMs I'll straighten them to make sure they are accepted. Some aren't, so I have to then go to the counter.

Wow I'm so glad it's not just me that does this stuff!

For me it's the Queen forward, 20's at the back, then 10's then 5's and bundled into 100's

I also get annoyed if a bundle of 100 is made up of different notes.

I get annoyed if I don't have a total ending in a 0 or 50 too, so anything extra is spent haha!

I just use the deposit box at the bank, take a stack of paying in envelopes and write them in advance so it's just the total and the date to add before I go
