Title: Make Up - How much do you spend ?
Post by: Lucymay on 24 September 2009, 01:50:02 pm
Just want to be nosy...
Do you buy the cheaper products or do you splash out on expensive make up?

I have a lot of Bobbi Brown but Iget it off ebay as much cheaper.  Would recommend anyone who uses designer makeup to get it off ebay its fine as long as you know what shades you want.

It depends on the product. Some things you can't see a difference between quality at a higher and lower price- Sometimes it is just pretty packaging. Personally I always use MAC foundation, that is worth the investment. As is YSL Touche Eclat, that lasts me about 6 months+, but beyond that I think is personal taste.

TOO MUCH. Moved from natural collection (he he) to clinique earlier this year as I felt I should be more of a lady (pah) and been verging on bankrupt ever since.

Went to buy a toner today and didn't think to ask the price. Baked beans on toast for the rest of the week :(

I agree to a point but Ebay is full of fake crap - I don't bother much with makeup, being naturally stunning  ;D, but I like Benefit stuff and once bought a shitload from an Ebay shop at a good price - I had to dump the lot because it was complete tat and was containing Christ alone knows what! It was rough, that much I do know  :o.

I would like to throw a vote to Tescos - their Barbara Daly foundation is the dogs. Last week when I was at Champneys I saw a demonstration for that Bare Escentuals mineral stuff which looked fantastic, but they didn't have a pale enough one for me  ::) - I also like Shu Uemura lip glosses and skin care. As far as coloured stuff goes I would say that Rimmel is about as good as anything I've ever found for eye pencils and the like - you really don't need to fork out that much. And if you get real Benefit, buy Dr Feelgood balm and the pink-staining stuff. You don't need anything else  :D.

But has anyone else here noticed that your make up always runs out at the same time? why does that happen,is it some cosmic force banding against us to make us spend our hard earned cash?

Within the space of a week i have ran out of

A. Foundation (Estee Lauder)
B.Face powder (Clinique)
C.Cream Blusher (Also Clinique)
D. Eyeshadow (Mac)

I'm going to have to remortgage the house i don't even have to pay for it all! Doesn't god know i have a coldsore and cant earn any money this week? The situation is now rather pressing as I'm not a girl who could be accused to going for the 'natural look' ;D

Yes i use Bare Escentials too, ive been using it for years since i discovered it on the home shopping channel when i lived in the states. Thanks goodness they've started selling it in the UK  now and i don't have to get my friend to send it over. It's great for sensivitve skin and you don't feel caked. Apart from that i use a mixture of  cheap and expensive.

I recently decided to learn some makeup skillz, beginning with buying two brushes from MAC. That's pretty much as far as I got. :P Although I do like some of the mineral products on lilylolo.co.uk - they are a bargain and do tons of cheap testers! A great way to play with 'new looks'. I got my first kabuki brush from there, too. I like MAC minerals, too - the eyeshadows are intense and the blush I use is a really pretty colour.

I really want to try Illamasqua, but I'm too intimidated by the craziness of the looks on their website!

Has anyone heard of the semi-permanent make up? It's actually tattooed on. I've had my brows done, eyeliner, top & bottom, & lips done. It's brill. A bit expensive but it does last for a few years. A bit of blusher, mascara & lipgloss & I'm ready for everyday.

Although for work & going out I do go the whole hog with eyeshadow, diff lipcolour etc.

A mixture for me. When I first started this job I was mainly using Rimmel products. Now with more income I've been able to find the right combination for me.  I've always had combination skin and suffered on occasion from acne which luckily doesn't leave scars. Whilst I've migrated to Clinique Superbalanced as well as Superfit foundation, I've gone back to Rimmels Clear Complexion cover stick. It's much better the the corresponding Clinique offering and about 1/5 of the price. I like No7 mascara, waterproof always, blusher too. Eyeshadow is Clq again and their long lasting moisture lippy is fantastic along with their lipgloss.

Ohh, and I found that No 7 also have an anti-ageing serum for problem skin - it's contains salicylic acid which helps prevent break outs. It's non greasy and I wear it every day under Clinque moisturiser. I don't like the Clinique cleansers, found them just either to thick or hars and have found a great cleansing gel from Avon - I also swear by their skin-so-soft range of bath and body lotions. Yes, I have my own Avon lady they've always got offers on and their foot cream is ace.

Right now I'm hardly spending anything since I've stocked up gradually. I also try and shop with Clinique when they have their bonus offers on - this means I've a whole box full of travel sized lotions and potions for when I'm touring or on holiday.

Ya Big Wuss!!!! LOL. It does hurt, especially when they do the "bow". I had my top ups done on all 3 parts at the same time. When I went home I looked like Coco the clown doing an impression of a trout!!!!  :o ;D ;D

But it was worth every penny & the pain!!!

I am a Dior Whore! God I love the stuff. But I will mix and match, I have used and tried everything from Aldi brand of make up, the lip gloss, mascara and concealer are good value for money. Helena Rubenstine has a new mineral make up that is a dream to travel, it has a grinder in the top of it. Brilliant! But I will try anything as long as it is good quality. I have been using the same Dior 5 color eyeshadow for the last 3 years! I am down to scraping the sides, but it is still holding up. I hunted down on the other day, so I can go on for another 3 years.
