Human Trafficking - Spotting the Signs

Came across this really informative site on how to spot the signs of human trafficking and how to deal with it.  Not just in our industry.

Well worth a read.

Hello Penny,

I looked into the blueblindfold signs massage and parlour, but does it mean people will be reported for being trafficked if they fall under one those points  or just all tick all the points.

1.The women is a foreign national. TRUE

2.She appears to be unhappy and unwilling to perform sexual acts.

3.She is frightened or in physical pain.

4.The women sees a large number of clients each day/night. TRUE

5.She is able to keep little, or none, of the money she receives from clients. TRUE DUE TO NOT BEING GOOD AT SAVING MONEY.

6.'Special' services are offered including unprotected sex, often at a low price.
7.She doesn't smile and is reluctant to cooperate.
8.Food is paid for by another person.
9.She has little or no time off. TRUE .WHEN IN QUITE!
10.She may only know how to say sex-related words in English.

I know that there are women who are trafficked out there and apologies if I sound uncaring. Does this mean that anyone falling under 3 like me or 5 points on those might be looked at as trafficked until proven otherwise?.

I expect this point means that the girl/lady won't be ALLOWED to keep the money, due to the pimp/madam/whoever is controlling her NOT ALLOWING her to have it (rather than the lady earning the money and spending how she so wishes herself).

I'm pretty sure that if someone asks whether you are trafficked and you turn around and say, "No, I'm independent, please sod off" (in the nicest way, of course), you aren't going to get dragged out and chucked into the Channel in the name of "saving you from sex slavery [and making politicians look good in front of more ignorant voters which is most of them]".

I think from that list of things to watch out for, the unhappiness of the person in question would be the most important for anyone to consider first. Also, anyone who seems frightened, of course! I think anyone interested in confronting trafficking would first assess those points, and their next step would be to talk (and listen) to the person they're worried about.

Someone bustling about being busy and feeling perfectly normal is not going to create a huge sense of alarm, I wouldn't have thought, no matter where they're from or how much money they don't save. :)

I always think it's somewhat ironic that so many people find it easy to freak COMPLETELY OUT about ALL WOMEN being in TOTAL SEX SLAVERY OMG! and yet every single day these same people walk past toilet attendants, cleaners, labourers etc, without paying them any attention despite the equally high risk of trafficking there. They might even be interested in the idea of hiring domestic staff that they don't have to pay much. Awful.

God I feel bad now - the other day in Glasgow I saw a guy begging - he could barely stand, leaning heavily on a stick, an ilder guy of asian origin. He definitely seemed scared too and his English was bad. Looking back he definitely seemed to fit the criteria. I gave him some money but he kinda haunted me for a bit. I really hope I'm wrong but I've a horrible feeling I'm not

I found this really interesting and of course shocking..

Maria's account of seeing up to 65-70 men a day was mind-bogglingly horrific.

Is this even humanly possible ??

I thought the same, but if you saw 4 men an hour for 10 to 15 minutes each and you were made to work 12 or 14 hours a day then it adds up.
I gather from stuff posted on message boards about soho walk ups that wgs there see dozens of men a day. Ugh.

I've never seen more than 4 guys a day - I just can't do it.  Then again I don't do quickies, and rarely even do half hours
