The movie did not even show us how she knew where to advertise and start up not saying they have to even say the sites but at least if we was shown her friend telling her how to start up get a phone etc go online. But it skipped to her getting ready for a booking.

The whole idea is to portray prostitution as a desperate, last resort were the not-too -smart women can end if they're not careful, a sad place where you'll have an awful time. The movie did not show how she knew where to advertise and start up because that would give women ideas *which is not a good thing*.

At least they are portraying the hooker as a human who everybody empathises with (but at the same feels very sorry for).

I can't wait to see how this ends.

Funny. . . re. public portrayal of prostitutes.

I haven't seen it.
Given a few years, we all turn into "secret dominatrix" firing up inside us?
When it's called for, that is, of course.

I'm turning into a "Man" after menopause is long gone!  ;D

I recognised the hotel they filmed in based in w.a.t.f.o.r.d m.e.r.c.u.r.e. hotel.
I think her friend still does it on the side but did not want to say she still in the business.

I noticed that!!

Depressing, once again about survival sexworkers hating what they do. Of course it happens but like most of us, I wish we could have a drama about Indies doing it because they want to.  But I guess that is not exciting enough for producers.

Anyone know a production company ? We could do this ourselves since no one seems to want to out there, haha! Imagine they actually showed it from our sides of the story? I’d watch that and rewatch that.
I can’t bring myself to watch yet another ‘drama’ where they portray this time old profession as a ‘last resort’ ‘dirty’ ‘bottom of the barrel’ type thing. It’s infuriating and just sad tbh.  >:( :(

To be honest I found Belle De Jour is the only one that does show someone enjoying it and portraying the slightly more glamourous side to it.

There’s a book called ‘Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl’ I keep meaning to get back to reading. But was hoping it came on audiobook.

On a more serious note, I did see a newspaper article (or somewhere).
It was about more and more younger women,
coming out of "inadequate care system"
 were "forced" to enter prostitution.

I doubt these women "care" about how others
would "perceive" them.

I wouldn't blame them. . .

It was some time ago.

If you go to the "Politics" section on this site, there's some thread on the "consultation".
It was a little too complicated for me to understand of it all, though.
As Admin explained, it went straight over my head. . .   :-[

I agree with one of the replies.
It's something to do with the government trying to introduce new legistrations
or trying to provide more support. . . ?   ???

Regieeee, is the above meant to be in this thread? I can't see how it has anything to do with the discussion about a TV programme, so if you intended it to go elsewhere then please report the post and I'll shift it :).

Think it's the safety aspect all the normals find so bad. Being naked alone with a strange man etc.. I'd rather escort than work In a care home or abbatoir anyway, the pay is a lot better and it's probably less grim full stop

The fallen woman archetype is found in lots of dramas.
Sex 'against' women is always used as a plot device.
Men come of age and have status when they visit hookers in movies. For example game of thrones.
Women loose something and degrade themselves and portrayed as desperate.

I'd like to see more sex positive movies.
My favourites are of course Secret diary of a call girl, She's gotta have it (series on netflix - not quite sex worker but a struggling artist who has a married sugar daddy and many lovers) and a handful of others.

It would help if they stopped portraying the JOB as bad.

But rather bad clients, bad situations and forced situations to raise awareness.

I just read an article in a magazine where women are turned down for universal credit and turn to sex work as * last resort  + *desperation *
Like it's the worst thing anyone could ever do to themselves .

I hate to burst your bubble & inject some reality here but some on us (I'm assuming I'm not the only one) has had to do it as a "last resort" because of the humiliation of going down the "job centre" every fortnight. Being on a zero hour contract. With pay slips etc to be turned away & be told your "job search" isn't enough..or whatever hoops you have to jump through this time for £75 a week to feed & clothe your kids on & yourself...when the company you've worked for for years loses their contract & you have to train for free for hours with another company to keep your job & cut back blah blah.

We're all being shafted one way or another..

I much prefer Samantha Morton's character in Harlots...another equally upsetting drama about hookers.

The truth is, if you're doing this under duress - because some psycho has threatened to kill your children if you don't give them £1000 in a week - then it probably is fucking awful.

Most women find sex with random strangers repugnant. Having to do so out of fear and desperation would only make it worse.

The programme wasn't about sex work. It was about vulnerable single mothers and predatory men.

I agree I don’t think anyone actually wants to do sex work that much the benefits (money) outweigh the negatives for some people. I doubt many people with a good paying job and reasonable hours would chose to escort. I do it because I’d only be able to get a minimum or not very well paid job.
Not everyone is privileged enough to have a good job that pays well
