Oh yes "I'm only texting because", or "I know you don't like texts but didn't want to disturb you if not convenient". I still receive a beep and have to look text or phone call.

I think they do it on purpose to see if they can get you breaking your own rule of no texts to see if they can get a ping pong text session going. I think it is a thrill for some.

I replied 'blocked' then he texts OK but why. I really do think it's just to wind us up. On the odd occasion I have texted back 'calls only' they hardly ever do. Same with 'are you available AW emails'. I say call to discuss and they don't.
