As a general rule, unless it's a special request, I don't ever use holdups for that exact reason.  I much prefer a suspender belt or a girdle when it comes to stockings.  Never found a way to keep holdups from rolling down my thighs.

Watching this thread with interest now, always on the hunt for new tips and tricks!

I always have the same problem. I've given up with hold ups, just use suspender, corset or something like that for stockings. They are much more comfortable too.

I have a friend (burlesque performer) with chunky thighs who swears by Ann Summers hold ups and stockings.

I'm lucky and can get away with anything even cheapy primark holdups

Ann summers ones do fit chunky legs but you can really only wear them once or they start to roll down.  I find FF stockings to be the best for my chunky thighs and with a nice belt they look great too.
They wash easily and go straight back into shape once washed which is handy as they do get stretched a bit during the day.

I always buy my stockings from debenhams Jasper Conran sheen lace top. They are comfy, look and feels great and fits my chunky thights just perfectly.  They cost ?7 a pair but are worth the money as they last longest out of all I ever came across.

I find holdups to be a complete pain in the arse.  Occasionally I can wear them for a few hours without the roll down coming into play,  but not a whole working day/night. I'm a curvy girl as well.

Stockings and suspenders every time for me,  and I feel sexy wearing them,  bonus  ;D

Yes when I wear mine they end up rolling down too. You look down and realise one is up and the other half way down your leg... Not sexy!

don't wear any oil or cream on your legs  when you wear stockings  ( talc is best )  the oil /sweat causes them to lose the stickiness and they roll down like   Norah Battey's

The Asda hold-ups are pretty good!

Another tip: don't put them on until the client has just been buzzed in and in the elevator on his way up (or at the last possible minute). Sitting down in them is the worst thing you can do. But if you put them on at the last minute they should be alright.

I'm getting used to using suspenders. I figured out to hook them to the stockings BEFORE putting the belt bit around my waist. Put the stockings on, but hook them up while the belt is still sort of in my lap. Then stand up and fasten. Much easier than trying to reach behind my legs to fasten. And then remove together. Can all be put back on in one go.

I'm going to invest in a six-strap (or eight) belt. I'm so tall that stocking are hard to get up my legs and they sort of pull on the suspenders. More straps should be more comfortable (or so I am given to believe.)

Stockings with the suspender belt are more sturdier.

I always used to wear hold ups, but I have invested in some stocking and suspenders and have been getting a lot more compliments for wearing them, and to be fair they are a lot more comfortable than hold ups. I think anyway.

Have a look at 'what Katie did' range, they sell some really nice suspender belts and stockingshq.com for long lasting stockings etc x

I bought a 6 strap belt as I thought it would make the stockings more straight at the top [ it don't much ]  but the belt still pulls down with the stockings  :0(

Well the birmingham one opens sundays, anyway i decided to go to Marks and Spencers and i got 2 pairs of the 15 denier black lace top hold ups only 5 pounds so 3 pound cheaper than the ann summers ones and decent quality to. Think i shall get my stockings from there from now on.  :)

Yes the M&S ones are my favourite, sainsburys luxury hold ups used to be but they discontinued them, I never liked Ann Summers ones and found that pretty polly hold ups weren't sticky enough so used a suspender belt with them x

That's interesting, since our Ann Summers shop closed completely not long ago, and they have always been open on a Sunday. It's the most moneygrabbing retail outlet I've ever worked at, and I'm pretty sure they would have opened on Christmas Day if they could.

I've worn the M&S non-running ones for years, and it's great when you only have to get one new one out of a packet at a time because they all match. Plus there's free click and collect in store, so I can order what I want and then just nip in and pick them up on my way home :).

I used to wear hold ups, but with suspender belt (plastic fastenings).

I recently invested in a couple of nice 6 strap belts with metal fastenings, so decided to change to stockings as the hold ups were just ending up with holes in them.

The problem is though l, that even though the stockings say they are right for my size and height, they seem to end up just above my knee as if they are too short.

I use M&S in an XXL which says does up to size 24 (I'm 20-22) and I'm only 5'5 so no idea why they seem too short.

I never had a problem with their hold ups but their stockings just don't seem to sit right, they are nearer my knee's than my thigh lol.

Not a good look especially when wearing something above the knee

I mainly buy mine off Amazon, but I may look elsewhere because I'm ripping every pair of stockings with my nails, I always have my nails done so it's a task trying to get them on without ripping them.

I've done it to every single pair of stockings, they're good as new for about three bookings then bam, I rip them! Anyone know anyway I can stop this? Without losing my acrylics? Or do I just need to put them on better... Haha  :'( :FF

Aren't you supposed to put them in the freezer before wearing? clear nail polish helps with ladders etc

Just don't buy any from hong kong off ebay for 99p they are crap. I find Primark seems to be the best place for me, cheap & durable. Tescos aren't bad either.

Primark are pretty good for shorter people - they're a tiny bit short on me - but I don't think their hold-ups stay up that well.

I really ought to pick one affordable brand and buy in bulk. Then matching them up won't be a problem.

That's what I do with my kid's socks! I buy masses of grey school socks all large enough for my oldest and they just stay in a laundry basket in a heap.  :D

I've just looked up those stockings - I've used them before. So you can order them to be picked up at your local M&S department store? That would be very convenient!

After I've exhausted what I have now I'll go buy some and then place a large order to pick up and then I'll just wear those all the time.

Do you guys immediately throw them out if they run or get a hole? I do. My friend wears hers until they're shreded. LOL

I wait until M & S have a 20% off and buy in bulk then so for each 4 pairs you get one free. I don't mind wearing them again if they have a small hole in the foot as I just have it under my shoe, but one of my pet hates is to see ripped/snagged stockings, and clothing for that matter, it looks minging, although I did once have a boyfriend who had a ripped stocking fetish lol Nowadays I save my laddered ones to put on cross dressing guys they never notice.

Does anyone know if there is a way to restore the 'stickiness' to hold ups? I don't have oily or dry skin but they still don't seem to last longer than a couple of hours... ::) I prefer them to stockings but they definitely look fairly tragic once they start loosing their grip, seems such a waste to chuck them!

A pair I once bought had instructions saying to clean the rubber bits with rubbing alcohol. I've never tried it as Boots doesn't sell rubbing alcohol.

Edited to Add: try putting a little bit of fairy liquid onto a cotton pad and wipe them then soak the stockings as the small amount of fairy liquid ought to be the right amount for general washing.

There are some good plus size (if that's what you are, I am at least!) cheapy (about ?3, not sure about postage) hold ups on amazon. Search 'romartex stockings' the range of colours is huge and I always get the XL ones (I'm a size 18-20) and they fit like a dream, no ladders yet either. I have them in red, white and light blue and I love them. Might buy some more now!

I like M&S ladder resist too (constantly laddering hosiery...) if I'm feeling rich.

M&S their medium & large sizes are grat if you have bigger legs /thighs
Their non run ones are absolutly the best . If you get a hole it stays a hole and dosent run
They aren't cheap ?5 a pair but they last for ages
Same for their stockings

Reasons for stockings rolling down Nora Batty Style is to much oil moisture and sweat on your legs
When I wear hold ups I dry my legs thoroughly and put lots of talcum powder on my legs  just by where the stockings hold up bit goes to stop it from rolling down
I hate wearing hold ups and much prefer stockings & suspenders

I have very slim legs but they are also very long, so I do struggle some to find hold ups to fit, M&S are good generally speaking. Primark too short and wide.

I too prefer stockings to hold ups, I can have the same problem there tbh so the suspenders help, but not if the stockings are too short!

For every day, M&S are the best, second place Asda for 40 denier holdups.

If you want top, top posh quality, try Falke https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/falke-pure-matt-50-denier-semi-opaque-hold-ups/d202801.pd#125340743. I wear these for my top end outcalls - you will arrive in confident style.

Sammy

ps I often wear suspenders with holdups - best of both in my opinion.

Best of both what? Surely the only point of hold ups is that they supposedly don't need a suspender belt? If you attach them to a belt then surely you've just turned them into a pair of stockings with an uncomfortable sticky ridge on the top.

I have never in my life got any hold ups to hold up, including M&S. They are fine as long as I'm not moving. As soon as I start to move, they just unroll. My thighs are fucking massive though.

I know the the thread is about holdups, but I've bought some gorgeous new suspender belts from this site.
I often find that most suspender belts are to skimpy at the front for my taste and I lik the deep ones and waspie style ones but some of these are lovely and I've bought quite a few recently for work

Also found some nice ones on FigLeaves website

I buy mine from Debenhams, 2 pairs matt holdups for ?5.50 so a bargain. If i'm feeling extravagant I buy Jesper Cornan, around ?8 a pair, but they are great, don't ladder and a nice design. Have a few pairs from woolford, agent provocateur, etc, but i always worry they will get damaged, so only pull them out for special occasions or for photos.

Wolford  holdups are by far the best ones! They are not cheap but they are beautiful material quality and they just last forever! X

Mine always roll down, because I constantly use oil, they can end up like ankle socks by the time I have finished a massage lol

Well my perfect ?9 Ann Summers' hold ups were ruined by a regular's pet dog jumping up at me and dragging his paws on my beautiful, once perfect new stockings.
If the client has a dog or cat then would recommend the cheapest stockings on the market.
The dog in question is just adorable, so I didn't tell him off - but the owner did!

I have really short legs but chunky thighs, m&s striped top ones are great and ann summers are good for getting different designs but do have a habit of laddering from the top - I also wear hold ups with suspender belts - actual suspenders just don't tend to stay up around my thighs and it puts too much pressure on the belt and not long before I'll feel the inevitable ping - just makes life easier and don't need to adjust them

The sizing of Primark holdups has got really fucked up recently. I found some old ones (10 denier and the 40 denier striped top ones) in a size small that I bought about 3 years ago, still in packets, recently and they fit perfectly. Went into Primark about a week later and bought more (same size) and they were TINY. Then went back and bought some of their new medium and large sizes for comparison, and the only difference is the leg length - the fit around the thigh is identical on all three sizes now, and way smaller than it used to be!! Which is annoying as I used to wear nothing but the Primark ones as they were not only cheap but a good fit too.

My experience, I'm a 12 - 14.

Tesco 2 pairs for ?4 very good except the band is tighter than necessary and always creates that unsexy squeeze effect, quite strong though.
Asda 2 pairs for ?4 flimsy as fuck, I ladder these the first time I put them on but the top fits better than the Tesco ones with no squeezing around the thigh. Way too thin though.
M&S 1 pair for ?6 ladder resist, by far the best I've tried and they stay sticky for ages too.

Tried some Lovehoney ones but I laddered them quickly and was gutted.

Where do you get the best ones that are ladder resist apart from M&S please? I don't mind paying if they last!

Yep I thought I'd got fatter , I haven't though if anything I'm smaller , I don't wear hold ups , I wear the stockings and they've been great in a medium I'm quite tall.

But I'm a size 10 and I like primark for two pounds their great plus I'm always putting my nails through so I buy all the same so I can match up.

They are much smaller ! I noticed with the last few pairs I bought can't even match them up !

I do have good FF nylons but save them for requests

I know that there have been various threads about where to get good nylons - I have just stocked up at Bondara and they have good stuff at fair prices. They have a fab offer on at the moment with free open crotch tights. I have just got mine and worn them today - much better than hold-ups or suspenders.

I use both.  "The best" is that the suspender hides my tummy.  If the stockings are actually pulling down on it, it has to be tight to stay on my waist- which creates its own squish problem. Hold ups stay in place, so no pulling down.  A medium suspender looks best on me, but it takes a small if they have to do any heavy lifting.  :-[

Maybe you're buying stockings too big if they're rolling down.  If you're going larger so they don't press in and make a line, try a size smaller, put them on, warm up the sticky band with a hair dryer and smooth it just right.  Then let them cool and take off.  I do that with mine because my legs aren't big, but they're definitely...soft.  ;D  Oh and wide lace tops are much easier to stretch/smooth this way than the regular bands.  Dunno, may be worth a try.

Given I don’t know how smooth they are [sheer tights] until they’re out the packet I’m after advice on where to get them from, please? Getting multiple requests so makes sense to score some.

Most customers who ask for sheer just mean "not fishnets" so I wouldn't worry especially. I just get mine in whichever supermarket I'm in.

Yes, this is true! I'm a real titch and fit child sized stuff.
Small sized  Primark hold ups are a really snug fitting, but medium would be too big.

I find they work really well though and  could wear them all day  if I had to.

I use Tesco hold ups a lot. Always find them comfortable and quite long lasting. Always good for run of the mill clients.  I used to use stockings HQ a lot but half the time I want anything off them it always seems to be out of stock. UK tights I'll use too.

For my more refined regulars I will wear an expenisve pair. And occasionally I'll indulge in a little foray to Mayfair Stockings. But like I've said in pervious posts I do have a rather sweet regular who is always buying me expensive pairs so often I'm well stocked! Possibly seeing him next week :)

Think lot of it comes down to having a good belt. Nothing worse when youre wearing a cheap one with flimsy straps and the thing keeps slipping! Arrrgh!

My post was naff so was relocated and edited to include 'sheer'.

Requests don't mention 'sheer' as it goes but for 'soft' as opposed to 'rough' tights.

I can't judge the texture without vandalising the packaging lol. Local supermarket doesn't supply anything less than 15. I'm getting requests for 10, ideally 7.

Suggestions welcome.

Yes, sorry Georgie - I was in a hurry and 'sheer' was the best I could do since the title had gone and packets of tights tend to say that rather than 'smooth' or 'soft'.

I suggest that the timewasting fantasists anybody that picky will never be happy with anything you buy and would be far better bringing their own :).

"Soft" rather than "Rough"? Do they perhaps mean tights <20 denier as opposed to woolly thick ones?

TBH I just say "yes I'll wear black tights", if they want something incredibly specific then they can bloody well bring it, and as Amy says they immediately go into the "probably a TW" category.

I'm assuming he was on about them itching his face as he performs oral through them. They're only going to get destroyed aren't they.   :o So yeah the pedants can bring their own.

Thanks both.

I'm having major problems with my stockings atm. Am lucky if I get more than one wear out of them before they snag. I am not sure if it is the new washing machine shredding them up, or if I am being particularly clumsy. My Primark one have never lasted long, but even my Ann Summers and Debenhams ones are getting absolutely mauled.

Is it the stockings? Or my care of them?

Definitely don't machine wash them, and any lingerie in the machine should go into a mesh bag for the purpose.

I use the hold ups from primark, after paying much dearer from other places I find the one from primark are perfect for and so cheap, £3.50 and they last ages. They are thick so even with long nails I’ve never put a hole in them. They stay up great for me also which many others don’t x

For the Americans on here, I get mine thru Hips & Curves. I wait til Black Friday (3 weeks now!) because they’ll be 1/2 price. I bought 6 pairs nude/6 pairs black last year so I’m set for a while, lol.

Torrid also does stockings, but they’re thick, not sheer (H&C’s are sheer). Had a client absolutely go off on me bc I wore the thicker stockings🙄🙄, which is why I bought the other ones. Jerk.

H&C isn’t cheap, they run about $20 a pair which is why I say to buy on Black Friday. Hopefully this helps someone. The cheaper stockings from Walmart etc simply don’t fit me, I have to get a plus size.
