Unless there are six suspenders there is not meant to be anything at the back.  It is meant to be two at the front and two at the side and none at the back.

Precisely.  I think 'at the back' is purely for artistic licence, like wearing the thong or knickers under the suspenders.

OH MY GOD!!!  This sounds like me!!  The worst thing anyone can want from me is to wear stockings.  I get them out, prepare the suspender belt or corset, then start sweating and panting at I'm trying to clip everything where it should be clipped.
I'm round, like a big beach ball in high heels.  My thighs and arse get in the way of the straps and stocking tops....
They do slip down a little, but I've just ordered more of the ones from Lovehoney because there's no clipping.

I am PMSL!!!!  ;D   Thank GOD it's not just me - the process of putting them on gets me hot (in all the places a lady doesn't want to be hot and sweaty when she's about to meet a client) not to mention SO mightily pissed off I could kill someone! I have been known to pre-prep them by clipping the suspenders on to the stockings at the appropriate points, then clambering in to my delightful suspender-stocking combo - just so I don't have to struggle. I can do the front suspender no probs but that pesky one at the side, jeez, I does my head in - I'm totally cack-handed with it!

I've just bought quite a few pairs of hold-ups from LH as well - pink, black fishnet, lacey topped - I shall wear hold-ups unless someone specifically asks for stockings and if they do, I'm pre-suspendering b4 I try and get into them! I wonder if you could put 'Stockings - extra charge'?!!!

Such a relief to know it drives you mad as well though, I thought I was alone! xx

I brought some black stockings with lace at the top today from peacocks and they were only ?3.50 and stayed up all night, didnt touch them once and they haven't laddered either which I was expecting within 5 mins.

marks and spencers are brilliant and they dont ladder either the holes just stays  the same and they can last for ages even  when wash them
i use the lace top ones not the regular ones as they are crap  if you cant get them in store get them on line ( as not all stores sell them  and get them delivered to the store )

if stockings are falling down ( as in Nora Batty Style ) do you have oil  cream on your legs as this will make the sticky stuff not work properly

if your using suspender belts you might need smaller  /bigger clasps to hold them properly metal ones are best but i have plastic ones
i never throw mine out when they get old i keep them and the clips as i know that i will break or lose some when im touring or working and wont be able to replace them

I second that - I find the M&S lace top hold ups are brilliant!  I have to be careful as although I am fairly slim I do have wibbly inner thighs so I can get a bit of an "overhang" if the stocking tops are too tight - NOT a good look!  ha ha  I find that the M&S ones last ages too - I can get mmore than 10 wears out of them.  One time a client's dog jumped up at me and clawed my stockings and they didn't even ladder then!!! Well worth the ?5 a pair they charge...

I got a lovely suspender belt (with clips that held the fabric for once) the only problem was the stockings themselves began to fall making the look awful, in the end i just took them off, are there any decent stockings can be recommended?. Im short size 5ft 1 .
thanks Orchid x

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA...........I've just laughed RIGHT OUT LOUD, SO VERY LOUD...........the notion of pre-prepping them is hysterical!!!    Pre-prepping.....HAHAHAHAHAHA.....

Honestly, those all in one thingies are ideal.  They do slip a little, but I wear the sames one every single week to a regular and they do the job nicely.  They are your idea put into practice by some thoughtful soul.

Not only is it the attaching the bloody things (my clips kept pinging and losing the stocking tops.....), it's the getting them over my feet which can be a bit rough sometimes as I'm mostly in flipflops and admit to neglecting them, but it's also if your hands are nice and smooth.

Good Lord!  I've just realised......I'm a fat crocodile.  No WONDER I have so much trouble with stockings.....

I think the key is to put them on even when you don't need to and to get into the habit of it.  I'm going to pre-prep some and do that this evening.

Thank you for making me laugh with your anecdote  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey there Croccy, glad to have raised a titter!!

Have you got a link for the ones that you've discovered - PM me if you like, they sound marvellous!

I put on my elbow length gloves to put my stockings on - I keep quite good care of my tootsies but always have just the odd snaggy bit (and they are gel nails so they can be a bit sharp at the edges) - this prevents all snagging, runs and fingenails going through your fishnets!!

Hmmmm, my holdups only fall down when I manage to get silicone lube in contact with the tops! (which is often)

If you're short, then it's possible to get stockings that come in different lengths - however, it tends to be the luxury brands that do this and it can get a bit silly to spend ?20+ on stockings when they get buggered so quickly

House of Frazer often have various brands of stockings on sale

M & S used to be brillient for me.  I'm very slim and since I lost some (unintended) weight all they do is fall down, and yes that includes the silicone gel hold ups!

Now both hold ups and stockings don't stay up properly even with a suspender belt.  :(

primark do a brilliant range of stockings in the larger stores. all for around ?2 for 2 pairs. yeah, they dont last long, but if they are going to ladder them anyway its better to pay ?2 than ?20 x

As I'm 5' 1" I find the suspender 'straps' generally too long. Even on the shortest setting they are too long.
I'm 5'7'' and sill find suspender belts' straps excessively long, too! Instead of the whole system of suspender+stockings staying taut on my hips and legs, ether it's loose and looks ridiculous o else the stockings slip down to my knees, that's how long the straps are!

Could anyone recommend a good place/brand to purchase a decent suspender belt with straps not that long?

try to buy one that sits on your waist rather than your hips. or a corset with decent suspender straps (i also sell corsets in my vanilla life. pm me if you want any) x

Indeed - the 'belt' part isn't meant to fit your hip measurement and if it does it's going to be far too big for your waist and just fall down. I buy most of mine at Stockings HQ who sell really good ones, and they generally have the proper metal clips too which means they'll stay fastened and last a lot longer.

'Fraid I've just returned my M&S hold-ups today.  The small are too small (yet that size fitted fine years ago when I was actually slightly bigger) and I struggle to get them mid thigh.  So I got the medium instead - OK the packing discourages the use of body moisturiser, but my Matalan ones had no probs staying up on moisturised skin.  Two wears and the M&S were loose on the thigh; two washes and the 'sticky' bit was disintegrating.   Also from a small hole undersole they DID still ladder.  In my mind M&S are cutting corners on quality but still charging a premium.

Matalan seem to have discontinued theirs, so going to Primark now @ two quid a pair
