Hall of Fame
« on: 11 October 2010, 01:32:35 pm »
This is just an Idea I have floating around in my head, mainly because I have been away from the forum for quite a while and have come back to a number of changes including the fine ladies who give so much of their time to run the site and even during my time saw changes happen, such as Brandy leaving and Amy picking up the baton.
And also the mention of Sarah Jane, who was before my time here.

Welcome to sleepling admin and congrats to Emily Jones btw.

What I am thinking of is a 'Hall of Fame' to comemorate the founders and the ladies who have put so much back into our community.

I'm not sure what form this would take on, but maybe a short bio of their on line work and life and a little about their professional career/experience - maybe an interview?
and then maybe we could add posts to it talking about how they helped us or something we remember about them.

It is probably a hairbrain idea - I haven't had much sleep, lol, but thought I'd put it out there anyway.

Hi Cassie,
This is a lovely idea, not as an 'in requiem' vibe, but a 'big up the sisters' vibe!

It is a nice idea (apart from sounding like an obituary!  ;D) but I think, without exception, all the girls who are/have been involved in SAAFE have got on board simply because they want to do something to try and make the industry a better/safer place. Sounds a bit cheesy but its true. No-one has done it for kudos or recognition (just as well really  ;D) and the sort of girls who have got involved long term dont strike me as name in light sorts.

Besides, SAAFE is about so much more than the few ladies who wrote the articles, look after the techie side of things and/or mod & admin the forum. Without the hundreds of ladies (and few gents) who have passed through the forum over the years taking time to write constructive repsonses, SAAFE would not be what it is.

Posters like XW5 for example have been here from the beginning. He like many others, never judges, never gets angry, never jumps on passing bandwagons, but just posts sensible and frank advice for those who ask. That is what SAAFE is all about. Always has been, always will be. IMO, its one of those things which is greater than the sum of its parts which is why an individual hall of fame isn't really appropriate.  :)

LOL - really didn't mean it in the 'gone but not forgotten' way. :-\

and I know nobody invests their time here for personal gain, but isn't that even more deserving of recognition than if they did?

and of course we all contribute to SAAFE and without all of us the site would a lot poorer, but without the people working in the background tthe site wouldn't exist at all.

Anyway, I understand that it is probably not going to happen for various reasons.

 :)

I think we just want the mods and everyone else behind the scenes past and present to know how us members appreciate the work, time and effort they put into this site.

Whether you've been in this industry for 20 years or 2 weeks, you can always use advice and support. To be encouraged, and to be brought back down to earth if needed!

Even though some of the posts made  may frustrate and pee off the mods (and others!),  i hope they know how thankful users of the site are for their input.
Even though this site is used and loved by many, not all of us would take the time to manage it    :)
