Group Hug
« on: 17 July 2010, 04:09:28 am »
I know this is a bit wet and hippyish, but from my short time as an active poster here on SAAFE I have noticed recently things have got a little bitchy.

I don't know if it is because we all spend so much time talking to each other that all our PMS is synched right now, or just that we are all misconstrue-ing (is that a word?!) what each other say recently.

But just wanted to give y'all a big group hug, it's an amazing intelligent community we have here including some awesome moderators  ;D. I had a neighbour who was a working just 20 years ago, she lived downstairs and sometimes used to babysit me as a child. I remember hearing her cry (presumably) because she felt so lonely- no internet, no mobiles, no blackberries. She also didn't have a place to vent, and to warn others about her abusive clients (Mum told me all this now I've grown up). She got raped by a well known abuser of working girls, and died of Syphilis just a few years ago.

End of sob story, I just wanted you to take the time to think of this lady and think how lucky we are that we have access to  support, PEP (emergency anti aids and std stuff), and have a place to vent, express ourselves and make real-life friends, where we can be as anonymous as we like.... I <3 SAAFE! I recommend it to all my girls at the Agency too.

BIG HUG and thank you all for your wit, humour and great advice.  :-* :-* :-* :-*

I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day. When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.

I was actually reading the old posts a couple of days ago and thinking that SAAFE is so different to what it is today and actually had a little cry over Brandy's last post (yes it is pms!) but I do think it has progressed and grown and still something I hope she is proud of.

Occassionaly like all communties do they have their little dramas but I think its time that we come together again.

Got a idea....vote on everybodies favourite thread!? (please not the one when I asked for help after getting a beppy stuck and had to go to a&e)

Kisses

What a sad story. There is nothing worse than loneliness which unfortunately is something quite common in escorting. I think I am going to go to morning mass and light a candle for her.

awww, yes same here BIG hugs.

Please no one take our 'diagreements' as being 'hostile'. Consider our disagreements like a CNN or presidential debate. Yes, things can get heated, but that doesn't quite mean its a hair-dragging all out brawl. The more we argue, the more we understand each other.

And you know what? Even if I may come off as a prick, later on down the line I say, "you know what? so and so was right and I really should consider giving that a go".

Lately, since I came back from tour last month..I've been really bitchy and bitter and upset because business just hasn't been as great as when I was on tour. In additon, its HOT in this part of the country and I've found myself getting minor road rage on several occasions, so its not just SAAFE. So I spend countless hours online waiting for calls, and I get frustrated when others say things that aren't in alignment with what I feel isn't true. And Im trying to change my situation but all my tour money is gone and Im stuck home paying bills and shit until the next tour comes for NEXT month which is still over 2 weeks away.

Yeah, I agree with Joey here. Just because this forum is predominantly female with some gay/bisexual men doesn't mean we need to sit around braiding each other's hair and talking about menstrual cycles. In particular - are you saying Joey has PMS? :P Or just us crazy ladies? Anyway, I'm not against a healthy debate anywhere and I think the main thing is having strong and fair moderation, which we do - nothing really gets far enough to ruin anyone's lives, does it?

Particularly, I agree with the loneliness issue. Everyone should feel like they can come here for help, support, etc. But part of what affects all us sex workers is ignorance and dismissive/negative attitudes towards us from society and so I've noticed the most angry responses are only to posts started by random people in which they assume we're a bunch of stupid women who all have AIDs and smack habits. Being able to protest that kind of attitude here is an important thing (to me, anyway :-\) as it means we can defend our space and kind of establish ourselves as the awesome bunch of people that we are, not having to put up with crap and misunderstanding like we even sometimes do during appointments - See, "So why is a nice girl like you doing this?" (usually asked after the blowjob).

However, I have of course seen a post (by Sammy?) and possibly others recently noting that the strong attitudes here can make it scary for others to post. This is clearly more important than the perhaps relatively minor issues I talked about above - particularly since this is Suport And Advice For Escorts, not Shouting Advice At Fellow Escorts - so if it really is getting scary here, I'll personally do better to keep away from the more emotive/debatey threads!

I don't think there's any getting away from the fact that this is a place populated by a bunch of intelligent, proactive, strong people so there'll probably always be strong views opposing on certain topics. But we also have some lovely, more 'floral' ladies here obviously, so as long as there's a mixture around to respond to newbies' questions we should be covering all bases and not frightening anyone off. Half the time it's having lots of old members around nattering with each other and having inside jokes etc that is more scary on a new forum anyway - has anyone else noticed that lots of newbies usually start to post at the same time? Safety in numbers! ;)

Never thought I would say this..but I agree with Joey...Also, as Miss Mary said in a post, things are different online, emphasis and humour can be lost.

Hugs to all.
