Free condoms. Chemists.
« on: 19 July 2018, 11:20:51 am »
More and more chemists are doing them for free. There is usually a card by the pharmacy.

I didn’t think and ticked the box for variety of sizes lol.

And in my local home town.

Now they will know I’m screwing more than one lol.

Oops.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

I'm presuming this is an NHS initiative?

Yes

Quick Google revealed a few things, looks like for some areas it's Terence Higgins trust, others NHS.

I can’t say the name of the chemist on here in case they google their name but it begins with a B and has 5 letters.

Surely we can afford to buy our own and leave the freebies for those that really need them?

It is a bit strange to take them for what is essentially business use, by people who have a reasonable standard of living.

Not that I need to justify myself but I happened to be in there and got some. I don’t go seeking. Am sure my taxes paid towards them. Also, there may well be ladies on here just starting out who can’t afford to buy their own.

Why is it strange? Are you saying that working girls should not take advantage of free condoms?

For Gods sake, give it a rest. I don't take free condoms from the state/charities any more than I would expect them to provide me with screwdrivers if I was an electrician, but this sort of pious, mock-surprised sanctimony when somebody else uses them makes me want to jump off something high.

Free condoms are available to people who want and ask for them, and if anybody has a problem with that they ought to contact those responsible for providing the service and complain. While you're at it, have a moan about people getting free NHS treatment for lifestyle related illnesses or when they could afford to go private because they're equally free to do so. Or maybe find a hobby instead.

As Lottie said, there are people here who do struggle and might find it far easier to access a high street chemist than a sex work project, especially if they're just starting off. It's information, that's all.

I think offering condoms for free in an easily accessible shop that many of us use is great, whatever the reason for taking advantage. I'm sure it will encourage people who are embarrassed to buy them to get some whereas maybe they wouldn't before. I remember being mortified at having to buy them years ago, thank God for the internet!

And as Amy says for those who can't afford them, for whatever reason, it's a good idea, much easier than going to a clinic or a project. We might buy them as a matter of course because we need them and often in large quantities  ;D but for the average teenager it's embarrassing and they are not cheap so this is a good idea. It may even be that the more it's used, the more likely it is to continue if they can show there is a need for it.

 :)

Yep did think soon after that the info is really useful, as is the ability to just pop in and get some. Sorry to the OP, and everyone else.

I choose to only buy my condoms but in the past I have taken the offered free ones at my clinic.  Nothing strange about wanting to take advantage of any freebies of any kind. I can afford to buy a posh coffee and cake but when I get my little John Lewis reward voucher for the free drink and tasty snack I can tell you it tastes much better knowing I haven't paid for it.

I wasn't aware of the free condoms at the well known chemists anyway.  I buy both online and from stores and I do enjoy the look on the (young) assistant's face when she rings up my 2 or 3 boxes including XL sizes. They try not to look at you when they take your money but I know what they are thinking "what's an older woman like her doing with all these?"

 ;D

This free condom service has been going on for many many years. It isn't restricted to any one chemist. I think most of the chemists in my area do it. Like LOTM says you just need to get a card.

It's there if anyone is struggling and need to save a little.
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.
