Foreign clients that don’t speak English
« on: 15 June 2019, 06:54:53 pm »
So I have nothing against foreign clients but I’m meant to be having a booking now and the client doesn’t understand English very well, he’s been in the apartment block for 15-20 mins and he cannot find the door number, neither can he even understand what i’m saying. I’m on the verge of just cancelling the whole booking. I’ve had other clients find where I am perfectly fine. And I’m definitely not going walk about the apartment block to go and find him.

This isn’t the first time this has happened, when it’s been very difficult trying to explain directions to someone that doesn’t speak perfect English. It gets sooooo frustrating.  :FF :FF :FF

I understand where you're coming from completely, but my theory is that it's mostly not the language barrier - it's a lack of common sense!

People who are thick in one language are still thick in another. Yet those that have a poor grasp of English but are very switched on still seem to find you ok, and conduct themselves in a lovely manner the same as a lovely English client. In my experience anyway :)

I don't see anyone who doesn't speak/understand English at least reasonably, purely for safety reasons.

I am exactly the same. Also, if they cannot understand English they cannot follow instructions and therefore cannot find me. It wouldn't be the first time someone has said, ' I go to reception??'  :FF

Some English is required to avoid disappointment on both sides.

Gurliesss, it was a nightmare, I literally told him to forget it at go home. Your patience wears thing when you’re doing this work, and I had none left as I was already in a poor mood. But when I told him you are in front of someone else’s door, the common sense like you said Lady Frog was not even there. I was actually raising my voice to him lool. *sigh*. It’s like telling off a child.

Not having common sense really does spread to all languages. And I’ve now learnt my lesson, just to stop my blood pressure from rising.  :FF lool

My rule is if they can not reasonably understand my instructions on the phone then I decline the booking as nicely as I can.  Even if they do manage to reach the right door and come in then the booking will not be much fun as far as I am concerned if the language barrier is too big.

I have been bitten once or twice in the past like this and it will not be happening again.

If I can't fathom what they're saying I kill the call. Rude but no point continuing. I don't disclose the street name or number, even if they're inside the building (eg first left, third right) so, they need to be good English speakers to follow instructions.

Venus ~
Lord girl, I have a regular like this who just loves me & it's beyond frustrating. Texting is fine bc I think he uses google translate but when gets to the hotel....
Arghhhhh!

Every damn time I have to go to the lobby to get him. Every time. He's this tiny Hispanic fellow who very obviously works construction/is in the labor industry, I'm a tall redhead dressed to the nines....*sigh*.
Nooooo, nothing suspicious going on here!🤦🏼‍♀️

In desperation I finally DL Google translate to my E reader so we could at least freaking talk during the session but, surprise surprise, Mr Construction is as quiet as a mouse *throttles*.

TBCF, his handle on English has gotten much better the last year or so but it's nerve wracking as hell, smh. Why do I put up with it? Bc he's basically a decent guy & a guaranteed booking when I'm in a particular area. There's nothing WRONG with him, the boy just needs to learn some conversational tactics & I'm not playing Emily Post, lol.

I’ve cancelled on many who’ve turned up and been unable to find me or follow instructions and that’s people who speak perfect English.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Using various parts of my profile a basic intelligence test should be completed before they contact me. Any that fail and most do fail get blocked.

Awhh bless him. How sweet. You definitely have patience. Having to get you from where you are in the building is where I draw the line. (I’m actually terrible I know lool). Like Lady Frog said, I don’t think it’s the language barrier it’s the lack of common sense. At least his English has got better, but it makes the booking super awkward, like I don’t like having a booking without creating some sort of conversation. I’m sure you feel the same way too.

Hang in there sista <3

Has he gone?

Yeah I had to tell him to go, because then if I was to get him, I would’ve had to fully get dressed and lazy I know, but I wasn’t about to do that, cuz all my other clients found the place perfectly fine.
