Weather
« on: 29 October 2014, 09:51:12 am »
I have just read an article in the Express about the prediction of extreme weather conditions for this winter. Considering some of the bad winters with snow and ice that we have been having and this is supposed to be worse, how much effect does this have on business. I know I won't venture far in the car when snow and ice are down. I tend to work from hotels on motorway links so my clients tend to be up and down these roads on business. But even local roads can be treacherous. Have you ladies who have experienced bad winters noticed a drop in business?
Be in your happy place

Hi CC

Yes, the weather DOES affect our business just like it affects lots of businesses.

Bookings are usually down because guys won't venture out in it if it is extremely bad and thinking back two or three years who can blame them.

Many will expect outcalls under these circumstances, yes, they won't go out in it but they want US to travel to THEM, makes you laugh doesn't it.

What we have to remember is that every region can be different and some areas will be more extreme than others.

We just have to make the most of a bad time.

If you use motorway hotels, like you say, then there should be less problems of them getting to you.  The biggest problem may be YOU getting to the hotel through the back roads that you speak of.

We just have to take each day as it comes in the winter and deal with it in the best way we can.
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

I wouldn't bother taking any notice of what the Daily Express reports or tries to predict long term weather forecasts. It was only a few years ago they predicted a BBQ summer and it rained for weeks on end. I think they mentioned a really cold winter last year and it was one of the mildest winters to date.
IF there is a bad spell of cold weather, it is usually for a week at most - just try to put a bit of money away just in case you have to take a few days off - stay inside, keep warm and drink mulled wine! x

I'd agree with this bit.Reading the Express is like taking the Daily Mail as gospel. We are all officially f**ked in that case.

Back on topic, the weather entirely depends on where in the country we are, how equipped that area is to deal with it and how resourceful said punter is in making the punt happen!

That said, I skidded on ice and crashed my car into a lamp post at speed a few years ago, being lucky to escape with nothing worse than whiplash and shock. I hit the post so hard that it bent :-/

I would probably cancel bookings during bad weather as I couldn't have an accident on my conscience. Not in a preachy way - just personal choice, as I would rather discourage anyone from taking risks after my experience x

Indeed very cold or very hot weather affects this business, yet guys will still travel for extra incentives: low price or offers, location etc

I read this story and then I read another article the Met office put out stating that there are NO signs that this winter will be worse than any other winter.  Like they said they cannot predict weather months in advance as it changes all the time.  They can predict up to a few days accurately and probably 14 days at a push but never more than that acurately
Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact
