Title: Escorts Library/Bookshelf
Post by: Jem on 18 June 2011, 02:35:29 pm
Hi

Are there any books you would recommend as interesting or just funny relating to escorting/sexual biographies by women/erotic literature etc

Mine are:
Eleven Minutes - Paulo Coehlo
(I love him as an author and the book shows a rather difficult side of escorting/trafficing but I think is beautiful nonetheless).

The Sexual Life of Catherine M - Catherine Millet
(True memoirs of a Parisian art critic who has a rather liberated sex life).

The Story of O - Pauline Reage
(an absoulte classic, reading it at 17 may have had something to do with my rather unorthodox approach to sex!).

There are loads I still want to read, and found a load of Anais Nin and Henry Miller on a pavement which I cant wait to get into.

Jemma x

Pat Califia's Macho Sluts. Quite expensive tho, about ?30 in shops.
Great writing, quite, erm, strong stories!? I mean very graphic.
Mostly S&M, lesbian stuff. I have got some excellent ideas from there haha!

So one of the threads here people mention a book Sex Tips for the Straight Woman by a Gay Man and it got me to thinking are there any books that girls would recommend to escorts who wish to educate themselves on aspects of escorting?

I've merged this in with another thread, since it's been discussed before (and can we please not post links, since having to remove them is destroying my will to live :D). I'm pretty sure there's another one somewhere, and I'll add it if I find it.

Personally I would be bored to death reading stuff like this and will be sticking to Irvine Welsh, but more importantly I don't think there's any such thing as an instruction manual since people are all so different. Everyone's experience of prostitution is unique, which is why being able to get lots of different viewpoints is so important :).

Thanks I did a search but for the life of me couldn't find it! I just see it like buying cookery books. I never do really use the recepes but use them for inspiration for my own  ;D

I don't think the '..by a gay man' one is nearly as good as the '.. for men by a lesbian' one it's trying to copy.

For very interesting ways to give hand jobs (and to a lesser extent blow jobs) see Lou Paget's 'How to be a great lover'.

in my opinion its the definitive practical guide.

I really enjoyed reading the Nana by Emile Zola and the Eleven minutes by Coelho. real classics.

also enjoyed reading Hamis gyonyor: egy luxusprostitualt vallomasai by Vivien Szalai. very easy to read. this book has a sequel, Draga kej. the first book is the best, the sequel not so much but still ok. I dont know if there is an English edition for the books :(

Given that the latter has only ever been a pimp and not a prostitute, I think I'll agree to differ with you on that one.

Still thought it was a great read and a great insight into how parlours work and just a general insight into the sex industry ... if we all agreed on things we would live in a pretty boring world wouldn't we :) xo

It certainly would (and I'm saying that as somebody who never reads work-related books anyway, bar a few research titles I've got kicking around). I'd just urge anybody who did want to to read it to get it out from the library :).

There are a few ?industry? books I read out of curiosity but it struck me that many were really badly written.  By far the worst was by someone called Bea.  Luckily, I had picked the book up just to have a read while staying somewhere.  I gave up after the second page.  I would have really resented paying for that.  I?ll give Madam Becky?s oeuvre a miss too, not so much because it irks me that she only ever worked as a madam without ever knowing the business first-hand yet proclaiming to be an expert but because a lot of her anecdotes have been ?harvested? by snooping on various industry boards and rehashing funny stories as her own.  To me it feels like not only has she earned of the ladies? sex work but then also ripped off their experiences too.

Mmm discovered The Story of O in a majorcan bookstore when I was rather younger than 17..and read it by the pool every day in front of my parents feeling very naughty. That book is the reason Im pretty unshockable I think  :o

Hello everyone

I was wondering if I could please ask for some assistance in the form of a pointer in the right direction.

I've been reading extensively through the forums over the last few days and saw an interesting thread somewhere where ladies were discussing and recommending some useful books relating to sex work. I'm a bit of a bookworm and am considering ordering a couple of them from Amazon but can't for the life of me remember where it was I saw them mentioned. Please could anyone kindly advise?

Thank you x

I have already read (and stupidly given away... Met another sex worker and she seemed like she needed it.) Thriving in Sex Work.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any informative books? I think it's always good to keep learning, every day is a school day  ;D
