hi  first congragulations   with regards to insurance which is extortinate generally i dont know of your age but there is a company called young marmalade that offers good insurance with or without a tracker
also consider adding another adult to the insurance which can bring the premium down loads
if your over 25 then it shouldnt be as expensive my nephew was getting quotes for  2 grand for a car worht a less than -1000

Thank You again girlies  :) FREEDOM.

ParisB: Ugh insurance is a nightmare as I'm 20... thanks I will look into them. What is ridiculous though is that I have had to budget more for the insurance than the car :-\

Stephanie: I know, but keep going you will get there eventually  :)

Hot Muffins: Haha I know literally perfect timing  :)

I didn't pass until I was 31, found it incredibly difficult at the time even though I was happily and safely driving around in my own car for practice, accompanied of course!

The joys of being a higher risk, alas.

In a year's time (typically) you'll be able to join a car club = no need for your own car or insurance.

Earlier this year, I had posted about being involved in an accident...not my fault. A lady here was bragging about how she has "fully comprehensive insurance" and that I should have also had it, and thats what happens otherwise.

She was like 40, I was 22...full comprehensive coverage would run me skyhigh. Its cheaper since I've left Florida...where alot of the insurance companies backed out due to extensive hurricane claims, but it can easily be more than the cost of rent for the month.

Obviously, she didn't take that into consideration...And even when you pay all that money per month, you still have to come up with a deductible, the lower the deductible, the higher the rates. Car insurance is like a legal scam to me. I can go on and on...but then this would be moved to bile and blather  :P

yeah car insurance is really high for young drivers and first time drivers my nephew was quoted  2800 on a ford ka worth  1200 pounds  but they are not insuring the car they are insuring you  and its always higher for boys than women sexist but thats true

it worth having a high excess higher than they ususally quote because this often brings it down and if the car is an old banger then  you wont get much for it anyway
vauxhall corsa  are cheap to insure generally

young marmalade dose  a  blanket insurance   for up to drivers  25 years of age you have to have your pass plus but without a tracker it around 1300 1500 full comp and with a tracker as low as 800 -1000 depending on your postcode and it on a car up to 1. 4 engine

my insurance is only 35 a month  on a new audi tt  but i have  been driving for years so that why it so low dont worry one day yours will be to  ::)

I have been quoted between 1500-5000. I don't know how most young people would be able to afford those prices  :o I certainly wouldn't be able to if I didn't escort. Maybe they have generous parents?  :-\

I saw the young marmalade site, its actually an amazing scheme, but unfortunately for me I don't have parents that would be willing to guarantee (have the same problem with renting etc) and don't yet have enough tax records to prove that I can support myself, so I don't think I would qualify. I have asked them for an insurance quote though so will see what they say.

I'm at that weird mid way point in my life where I'm still classed as financially dependent but I am actually financially independent and just can't prove it.

I have my insurance, just MOT'd my car so looks like everything will be up and running by the weekend.

But just never talk to me about car insurance. It was more than my rent (for my student house).

Thats how much my mom's insurance is too LOL.

Hopefully my rates will go down since I've took a Defensive driving class...but mine is only about 65 bucks a month and its just liability. I've never caused an accident and was in only 1 other accident in my life. The person was some 40 year old grown ass man. And yet me who is 23 cant get cheaper rates?

'Additional driver' on parental insurance covers quite a few, but that restricts them to the family car(s) and means they do not build up their own claim-free years.

Paris

if you are paying monthly aren't you getting stung on the APR?Just a thought.

XW5: Yes a few people seem to do that, but then sometimes the insurance company won't pay out if they find out you are the main driver rather than your parents. I'm being hopeful that my no claims discount will kick in and it will be a lot less next year! But we shall see...

Silver lining is that my insurance is less than my driving lessons were  :)

It will drop loads as soon as you hit 21 and again at 25.

Worth it though for the independence x

If you aren't Mr Average, living in middlesville then insurance isn't usually great anyway as the market is geared towards providing low cost cover for the masses.

I have over the odds insurance for a not-the-norm situation and I just get on with it. I'm probably safer than the average driver but they don't look at it that way!!
