Don't feel like working when you start late
« on: 14 March 2016, 08:46:39 pm »
I have had days where I have had stuff to do in the morning and it ends up taking up more time than expected. So today I had to run some errands, left in morning and didn't get back to working flat till 5pm at which point I just didn't feel like working as I thought "What's the point, half the day is finished" Then I mess around, ignore calls and say "Oh I will start early in the morning" Thing is, I then regret the bookings I passed up cuz I miss out on the money.  :-\  I don't know why I do this. It's such a silly thing to do especially in times like this. Is it Just me?

No, what I do is remember I felt the same when I was on late shift in other jobs, and that once I get started I'll get into the swing of it.

Seeing as I am outcall-only, I work mostly evenings, so I don't experience this per se. It can be hard for me to get myself into job mode if the appointment request comes through on a very short notice, though (mostly work with appointments that are scheduled at least half a day in advance). That said, I don't really pass up on them anymore, got my ass in the gear after having a few lean months where I was to blame for skipping out.

Bar the occasional incall day, I'm outcall only and I receive plenty of daytime bookings. If someone leaves it until around 6.30pm I'll either have been already booked (I accept 1 booking only), or have decided to chill or make some other personal commitment.

I'm in a town of 18000 people. Pretty much all my traffic are folks in hotels, so it's usually 6 pm-11 pm kind of gig. :)

I'm in a town/area of similar, possibly less population. It is also a tourist + business area. Clients are sometimes in hotels, sometimes shift workers, or have children who are out during the day.

Are you me!?  ;D

Yes - I can slack off for various reasons then kick myself for it later.

I'm either full-on and plugged in or I'm just looking for reasons to knock back bookings and telling myself "I'll do better tomorrow."

I am exactly the same and if I haven't worked by 3pm then I won't bother for the rest of the day.

I feel like that if there is no work by 1 or 2 pm then I usually don't stay available and wait for the next day instead.  I lose steam/motivation that way by waiting around.

Yes, I used to do this ALL THE TIME. Or if a client didn't show and I was left kicking about for a few hours, I'd lose motivation and cancel my remaining clients for the day. It's very easy to fall into this trap then feel sick over how much money has been lost.

The best thing to do, is just whack on with at least one booking, then you will get in the flow and continue. From my experience anyway.

Now, due to a year of working and spending it all (either repaying debts of just shelling out on unnecessary things), I am much more strict with myself as I want to see my hard work pay off when I eventually quit.

Good to see some other folks working tiny places. :) We don't really have any tourists to speak of, mostly oil industry which is on a downturn. People sleeping over in hotels after taking heli back from the rig/taking the heli to rig the next morning, that kind of stuff. Not much shift work here to speak of, most of my local clients have 9-5 jobs.
