Do people think you are rolling in it?
« on: 15 December 2012, 07:51:58 am »
When you first told someone close to you, friend, partner, family e.t.c Do they automatically  assume you are rolling in money? Or there expect handouts from you cause, "hey for you, money grows on trees!" Funny they don't think rent has to be paid and living expense + taxes! Example a friend when found out, even tho she has a good job and savings, asked for her deposit for rent to be paid ??? Really?!?!

Anyway's would be interesting to hear your stories, unless I am the only one it happens too lol

My family and friends don't assume anything.

Did have a client who kept saying I was "rich" I let him into a couple of secrets, he also said "I bet you have an expensive sports car hidden somewhere". Errr no I don't actually.

Yes I enjoy a good income but I'm fairly sensible and I don't hammer it.

Similar to Strawberry. Just the other day a nosy client kept hounding me to tell him what flash car I have
(which does not exist) and he assumed I also had a "big house" somewhere.  ::)

I suppose they do their sums and work out in their heads how much we can earn but they don't stop to
think we have living expenses like everyone else.  With our income being all cash they think the whole lot
goes into our purses ready for spending on ourselves.

Nice thought but not reality.

uhuh  ::) loads of times if I mention struggling a bit with finances I've had people say 'oh I thought you would be fine cos of what you do.' ...no idea that sometimes I don't work so much cos my health can be poor and that I've also been a main carer for some one much of this year. I think people like to imagine we live on planet glitz and glamour...either that or the other end of the spectrum.

I think a good way to treat yourself every once in a while, is a good holiday :) But for me it's all about saving so one day I can go into another business.

"glitz and glamour" would be famous footballers e.t.c sadly most of your clients aren't like that.

There are those who work out our weekly income based on our hourly rate times 40, assuming we are constantly servicing clients  ::) I worked out recently that this year I've only earned the national average, so not bad but not great. However, I never joined this business to get rich but to have a better work/life balance and be an escort long term, and I value my free time extremely highly.

Agree totally with this.
My rates are high for the region I am in and I only do Outcalls and prefer daytimes only.
I average only a couple of bookings a week at the moment - and almost always from returning Clients, so I watch every penny and only splash out on good quality food. I average roughly the same salary as many of my Clients, but they do 40 hour weeks and I do around 4  :)
If a week goes without a single booking I start to worry like mad - though not enough to see my *'OID's yet as I have a little nest egg.
I value the rest of my time like mad and would rather scrimp abit than risk burnout by changing this.
I never discuss my work or finances with Clients, but if they are hinting around, I let them believe I am rather flush and not desperate for their booking ( when they may be the only call I have had in a week )  ;)

Considering the recession, am not doing too bad. But I never tell clients this, I am always struggling. Just getting by. Why? Clients like a happy hooker, they really don't like a successful one.  Also, the thought they are helping me, makes them feel more manly.
