Title: decorating tips
Post by: Chanel xxx on 23 May 2013, 06:00:16 pm
I'd like to do some decorating this weekend,  not a total re haul but I'd like to make it more of a boudoir. Right now my flat is comfortable and very clean and as this is my first place its taken me a while to get into a proper routine of constant washing, scrubbing and wiping ect.

I know this must sound abitt silly but I am quite girly but I've never been a real girly girl? So please any tips on colour choices and furnishings and how I can make my working room more sensual without spending too much?

Coloured LED lamps are a cheap way to make a room sexier. Especially red. The red colour makes skin glow a healthy pink colour, hides blemishes and seems to make everyone look a bit sexier. Even cheaper option is just to change regular lightbulbs for red ones you can buy at any hardware store. Also recommend the gold satin looking synthetic throws and cushions they sell at primark. I think mine only cost about ?10 and still looks good a few months later. Much more resistant to stains than cotton sheets ;-)

GirlyGirl by name GirlyGirl by nature  ;D

I am very girly and yes I do love pink things such as pink nail varnish & pink bikinis but its TACKY as hell when it comes to your home etc so I have everything neutral with magnolia walls throughout, soft caramels, browns, mocha coloured bedding and cushions and I always have warm candles lit, plenty of them so it gives off plenty light.

I also LOVE fresh flowers in nice vases which is nice and girly.

xx

I always opt for magnolia walls and simple furniture and add colour with the bedding and ornaments. I always seem to go with red as the main colour, not sure why!  ;D It's a good contrast without being too dark though in my opinion. Oh and I always have loads of mirrors! Guys love it! A huge one above the head board, a large one on the wall at the bottom of the bed and one in the corner just to cover as many bases as possible without going overboard!  :)

Yes if you have magnolia walls throughout it means you can introduce any colour you want in each room but I am boring I have it neutral throughout xx

I have black out blinds so no need for decor, the darker the better, I leave room to check they give me sterling.. :o

Shabby Chic items are very nice try Ebay for them :)

Well It seemed that I had most things covered already
Magnolia walls
Canvas painting
duck egg blue satin sheets
But i got some lovely candles from txmaxx which have added a nice touch. I decided that putting up wallpaper or repainting should be done by the landlord so I'm not paying to do that! Will get some flowers but a nice bouquet isn't cheap so I'm thinking some silk flowers would be a better investment?
But I will try eBay as I would like little things like erm a vintage birdcage or. :FF
Somethings/ornaments that add some character..that's what I'm finding difficult.

I meant fake flowers yes they are a better investment :) You can pick up some really nice ones from places like b and m and Wilkinson's. I got some white roses for my home and some stick type things with white beads on. A birdcages yes hehe I'm after one too!
As for ornaments I would look on Ebay for Art Deco or Art Nouveau some are quite pricey but in auctions you can win a bargain. I would look for Royal Dolton vases they are classy timeless pieces.
A candlebra adds character too.
Books on shelves?
Oh and maybe cushions too?
If you can't find any ornaments try for wall masks if they are your thing I love them or wall stickers
Elegant lamps

The Candlebra

I love that..how very Liberace ;D. I might have to watch the new film and get some inspiration! He is the ulitimate diva, so flamboyant and dedecant. When I was little his persona always mades me think if Vampires loved sunlight they would be just like him lol

Blown up picture

I like this idea too.
