Ah the guilder, I loved those 1000 guilder notes. Plus there was the lovely 50 guilder note that had a lovely sunflower on it. But now we have the euro and I do like the 500 for space reasons, but in Ireland, they have a big problem with anything larger than a 100 for shopping. So, I rarely see 100, 200 or 500 notes. It is all bleeding 50's! Oh and I hate 20's, 10's, and oh lord I can't tell you how many 5's I have thrown away, by accident. They are the same size as a cash receipt, and I often will just fold everything together, and later on will empty my pockets and chuck the receipts in the trash, along with the 5 euro note wrapped up in it.
I just remembered this, my daughter when she was younger( during the guilder times) and was changing teeth, came to me on evening and showed me the newest tooth that had fallen out. So, I said put it under your pillow, and the tooth fairy will leave you something. Well for the life of me I couldn't find any change in the house any where, ok so I said I would put a bill, not a problem there, except there were all 100 guilder bills. I spent about an hour searching for any change, nothing. Ok, so the Tooth Fairy(aka Mom) typed a note saying: "Thanks so much for the tooth, it will make an nice addition to my collection. Since we are in the electronic age now, I have wire transferred 10 guilders to your bank account, please ask you mom to check for it. Love and kisses, and remember to brush well. The Tooth Fairy" She still finds this rather funny, because even now she knows I never have small notes.
