I just tried watching this on C4 OD, never have I been so delighted when, halfway through my laptop seized up and I was unable to continue watching it.

Where to start, the misleading title perhaps? The slant it puts on the industry - I'm sure I don't need to elaborate on that.  It made me angry and depressed in equal measure.  The madam and her 'boyfriend' were like some hidious caricature, in fact it seemed like some terrible badly acted play, and I had to keep reminding myself these were real girls there, selling sex in a sleazy, souless environment.

The whole 'do-gooding' approach or should I say justification for the programme made me feel physically naseous, no it was exploitation TV, pure and simple. Was I the only one to dislike the undercover reporter?  Maybe it was because, like so many, she seemed to swallow the stereotypes of WGs so easily, that what she saw was the way it always is......

Well done Channel 4 for perpetuating the stereotypical myths that surround prostitution!

It's very definitely a Nick Broomfield film and much that I like his 'Look at me! I am trying to get a story!!' ones, this is him trying to make it his, rather than the woman reporter who is actually doing the work. I wonder whether the 'Look at me! Attempting to drop off new glasses through the toilet window!!' footage is, at its politest, a recreation. Because who'd be such an idiot as to take a camera person to that? Does it look like he cares about her more than getting 'his' film made? No.

It's a film about hopes and reality. The Stratford owner expected to make lots, but that place had only seven clients for quickies in a week. The two Romanian women there are doubtless hoped by the makers to be naive, but they know exactly what they are doing. The clients hope for someone in their 20s, and get someone who is late 30s or 40s. The women who paid to come to the UK hoped for a better life and found that, without choices, they get things like 'every woman has to...' do OWO or whatever.

It's a film about what happens when you make everyone running a brothel a criminal: you get people who are not nice doing it.

It's also a film about immigration, the exploitation that arises for people without the 'right' papers, and the fact that people will do what it takes when it's made hard to get a better life. Ghosts was better for that.

Oh, the source for the statement that there are an estimated two thousand brothels in London and 80% of the workers are illegal immigrants... that's one of Eaves' inadequately sourced statements, isn't it? It'd be ironic if the brothel in Stratford was only opened because of their 'THE OLYMPICS ARE GOING TO BRING IN THOUSANDS OF WOMEN FOR SEX' stories.

Well like you say the place was a souless dump scattered with dirty clothes where the girls slept, fucked and ate. Ran by two evil pimps who were exploiting them and taking advantage of the fact that they were here illegal. Had I  been asked to do a documentary on this joint I would have come up with the same conclusion as the producers thus "perpetuating the stereotypical myths that surround prostitution" (and I'm a sex worker myself). I mean...These women lived in an utter horrible situation -let's be honest-.

I didn't dispute that this was the reality for these particular woman.  Even  if 10 of us walked up to the filmmakers and gave irrefutable evidence that life for many WGs couldn't be any more different that that of those poor girls they would not be interested, they want to perpetuate the myths about WGs by insinuating that all WGs work in these conditions, all WGs are illegal immigrants, all work in Brothels.....and so on

The media does not want to look beyond the stereotype, I guess that was my point.
