For the savers among us, how do you apportion your savings?

The money from every other booking went into the savings.

I'm saving up for a few big expenses too. Do you create savings accounts for each thing? Have a priority list? How do you keep motivated and make sure you are on track?

My money is basically sorted for me; I deposit all my earnings and put 30% aside for tax, 10% aside for student loan repayments and 10% for long-term savings. That's the plan, anyway... long-term savings are, er, not being much contributed to at the moment as I'm working less due to being a student again. It's very much bugging me but I try to keep in mind that I'll save more when I'm in my proper full-time future career - while part-timing with work, it's just too difficult!

Also, I have a bad habit of not buying anything for ages (I just keep a "wishlist" for things, like aforementioned Kindle!) and then suddenly giving in and spending a very reckless ?200 or whatever, so I'm not going to try and give any advice about wise spending or saving. ;D

I only have one savings account, i pay everything into my current account and then transfer it to either an ISA or savings.

I know when it comes time to pay the tax man, i am possibly going to cry this year!

the one that i have is the the latest  3g wireless  one and i have to say its brill mainly use it when im touring  (it would never ever replace real books for me as i love books and its a big addiction for me ) but for travelling /holidays ect its very good
its definatly better  and easier to use than the sony ereader ect and down loading is dead easy straight to the reader  plus a lot of the books that i read mainly fiction mainstream stuff is cheap ie  around 2 -3 pounds a book  i dont know what its like for stuff that may not be avialble ect

its mainly a travel gadget for me  but i love it and it definalty a good buy  if your the sort of person who takes loads of books on holiday with you or buys books when away and leaves them there then its worth it

if you get one get a night light  mobile accessories do a good package of 2o included light charge and cover which is worht it if you want to read in bed ect

i also have the sony ereader   this broke after 8 months screen went fuzy and sony would not replaces it even though i had the credit card reciept

Sony's warranty policy can be "You bought it, it's yours".

Thanks Paris, definately going to look into getting the kindle... I have no more room in my house for books  :)

Books were another addiction for me. Before you buy a Kindle, try someone else's for a day or two. I cannot stand the flash that happens between pages as the old image is cleared, but others do not mind it.

I also do not like the way it is an attempt to tie you into Amazon in the same way that Apple want to own your future, or the way that there is no second-hand market for the material. (Going second-hand is how the book addiction stayed affordable.) You also need to look at what is actually available for it. It is very very patchy in the areas I am interested in. If what you want has detailed illustrations, you also absolutely need to see one in action, because the pictures can be poor.

If you get one, you probably want the wireless one rather than wireless+3g unless you are someone who goes "I must read that new book, now!!!" when away from home or a wifi point. Or because you are that sort of person :)
