How many work phones is too many
« on: 10 May 2013, 06:01:54 pm »
As I advertise in both Scotland and London I was thinking about having more than one phone. Was thinking one for AW, one for London Backpage, one for Glasgow Backpage, one for Punternet, one for generic Scotland ads and one for generic London ads. Is 6 phones too many?

Also if I did get as many it would prob just be cheap ones, would I be better getting dearer ones.

Have as many as you like. For me one work phone is all needed apart from my personal. The thought off numerous phones ringing even at the same time can be stressful you will need several people to answer. My view is the clients all can get through on one number. If both rang at the same time you answered then with the other caller on the other phone will be on the other phone. I picture if it was me will be even more tempted to talk to both at the same time on each different phone making an excuse.

I guess it's not too many if you do something like put the phone type as the background so you don't get confused? My work phone is a super basic samsung, it was a fiver! Although I have considered getting a more expensive one when I can afford it because I only take my work phone to bookings in case a client pulls a fast one and it got nicked or something and it would be nice to have google maps on a work phone!

Personally, if I was in your situation I'd have just two - one for Scotland and one for London - and asking over the phone where they happened to see me advertised to know which advertisements are really pulling people in.

I'd always advice having 2 phones if let's say your advertising in a paper and a website, there's times when paper callers can drive you up wall! or keep you on the line when others maybe trying to get through .. It can be good as well to see where your works coming from.. I think 2 phones is about right, one for dear adverts one for cheaper like aw or paper..

I think two phones are enough too.  One for Scotland and one for London.

You won't need a separate one for backpage as there is very little work from there.

You can only answer one phone at a time and its bad enough if you are answering one and the other is ringing without two or three ringing.  ::)

Thats a lot of phones haha!

Would you keep them all on at the same time? I suppose if you were charging various rates then thats a really good idea. I know punters do a search on numbers to see what else comes up.

With regards to phones i personally use my old blackberry for a work phone as it saves previous messages and with the cheapo 10 pound phones i ended up getting confused as messages arent all kept together. If that makes sense?

with my paper and viva st phones though i only tend to use them when I'm touring or  in  ireland so most of the time they are not on

I have nokia 6700 and they are brilliant   keep records of all texts sent /received a great memory
other decent phones are nokia c1 and c3s very cheap and also keep all records of texts sent /received which is great

I have
1. for website and one for papers, one for AW and one for duos and my private phone so I always have a few on me, My website and my AW ones are Iphones and the other two are basic cheap phones from tescos

Its the only way I can keep track of where calls come from as I don't want to have to ask and then I also know if someone rings and asks for details I know if they already have them all or not as AW has everything as does my website but the papers don't so that way I can pick out the timewasters who just like to talk

I don't think it is possible for us to keep track of where all our calls are coming from no matter where we "think" as so many companies are now cloning our profiles to their sites and guys are calling after seeing these ads.

I know it happens to me regularly anyway.
