Hi

I just started a blog. Now, I am not too sure why. Are they searchable and do 'clients' actually read them?

Thanks
Scarlett

I believe that most blogs (Wordpress, Blogger etc?) are pretty good at improving your Google rankings, though I'm a bit allergic to SEO - it makes me go bleh. :P I think Anika Mae and Anjali know an awful lot more about this though.

A lot of my clients have told me they read my blog, some even follow me on Twitter, and often they generally say they like the friendliness/approachability of my site as my "personality comes through". But that's just my clients - I've heard of others that find the idea of wasting time reading a whore's blog abhorrent. So in answer, some like them, some don't! Best only write a blog if you fancy it. You'll obviously get more readers if you talk about how much you love cock and gulping down gallons of jizz etc but you don't need to at all - even a boring blog like mine has a resident perv. ;D

I actually like to read other escorts' blogs, not to much to compare jizz-gulping rates but just to be a little nosy and find out a bit more about them or the issues that they're thinking about at the time which might be similar to mine. I used to read Peridot Ash but she's off doing other things now. And there was a big 'Alexa' controversy recently which possibly ended with threats on the poor man/woman's life, but I don't think s/he's fully disappeared.

Er, that probably put you thoroughly off blogs - sorry! Normally they can just be a fun little marketing tool. As with anything on Teh Internetz, taking it too seriously is a path to madness.

Thank you! My first post came to mind very naturally. I thought I'd be pounding my head to write it. It actually may become an issue! I liked writing it that much.

Here is mine: http://scarlettsyn.wordpress.com/

I am still fiddling with things. It isn't pretty! It's going to drive me nuts. I will be adding you ladies in a minute.

Note: I am a bit silly, too forward and may offend a few. It is a humour clash that I don't feel like suppressing in my blog. Mainly the WHORE thing. I call myself a whore. I am sure that is a completely different thread/fiasco to post--no offence!

Hi Scarlett and welcome to SAAFE!

Like Emily, I dont know that much about SEO, but I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the reasons blogs are picked up so well by Google is because it likes new things, and a blog tends to be updated more regularly than a website text.

I enjoy writing mine, and it brings me many great clients. I had no idea it would be so popular when I started it - some reach the blog from other links without ever seeing the site first, and it has been the deciding factor in meeting some of my favourite gents from all over the country, even abroad. Even more surprising considering it's mostly incredibly mundane subjectwise - sometimes I have a 'theme' and sometimes not, but it all helps to flesh you out a bit as a person and can be really valuable for nervous newbies who might be struggling for things to talk about when they first meet you.

I wouldn't worry about offending people - maybe a few years ago the word 'whore' would have raised an eyebrow, but the idea that it might shock now seems a little quaint. I personally loathe the word 'escort' and only use it on my site because Google would ignore it otherwise - it's entirely a personal matter how you describe yourself and at the end of the day, most people are going to be far more interested in you getting your kit off :D.

To be honest, my blogging started  as a way for me to keep a web presence even though I wasn't advertised as working. I have found that it was a better alternative to posting in the site forum, which was getting me into trouble. It allowed me to express my personality, but at the same time not offend some of the ignorant moppets that proliferate all forums. I mean seriously, who the hell cares about what perfume I am wearing , or if my cat is sitting in my bag? But if you can offer another dimension of your soul, it is good for business.
Adding blog, oh and welcome Scarlett Lady.:)

Ok, I have been using Blogger for some time now, but after looking at a few ladies on here blogs, I am kinda a grooving on Wordpress. So I am in the process of moving my blog over to there. So, what I will do is add yous guys links to both places and when the big switch is made, I will ask everyone to update their links. Sorry  ???, but Wordpress looks so much more nicer, and is upgradeable.

Wordpress is nomnomnom. And even a spanner like me managed to make an only-semi-broken custom theme. Gets a little more broken every time I tinker with it, though... and the link to it should actually be http://www.emily-jones.co.uk/blogposts-and-news

Like Emily, I dont know that much about SEO, but I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the reasons blogs are picked up so well by Google is because it likes new things, and a blog tends to be updated more regularly than a website text.

Broadly speaking (though most of what I am writing here is a dramatic simplification of something that is actually rather mystical and immensely complicated) Google analyses web pages based on prominent keywords anywhere in the webpage text or header. If you write a webpage about donkey farming, titled "why donkeys make good farm animals", it is conceivable that your webpage will come up when searched for with any of those words. Words like "good" obviously are likely to be found on far more pages and so it is unlikely you will get a good ranking. However if someone searches for "donkey farming", statistically there will be less pages containing both those words. Ok, pretty elementary stuff.

Back in the old days, websites used to try to manipulate search engines by using 'portal pages' - nonsense pages which linked to their websites, containing content designed specifically to manipulate search algorithms. Often simply pages containing thousands of completely unrelated keywords, giving the page the chance to come up in as many different searches as possible.

This doesn't work with Google because:

  • Google likes REAL content. They will spot attempts to manipulate the search algorithms and black list sites accordingly.
  • Google ranks pages based on links as well as keyword content. If Madame Felicitas, the web-mistress of Felicitas-sextoys.com, decided she wanted to tell her customers about a really good <link>donkey farming</link> site, then your site will start to rank above those sites that have no links to them at all.

This is still pretty elementary. What I wanted to get to was the following: Google doesn't index websites, it indexes individual pages. The more individual pages with unique, original content on your website the more "donkey farming" coloured marbles are thrown into Google's proverbial basket. Because most good blogging platforms give each post it's own individual page (usually linked to from the post title) every time you write a post on your blog, you are increasing the statistical probability that someone will stumble upon your website. This is why a page from Wikipedia will so often be present in search listings. Everyone links to it, and there is literally millions upon millions of pages all of which are in the Google index.

A further point I wanted to add while I was on the subject of SEO is that if you are linking using people's banner ads and you aren't using wordpress, make sure to fill the 'alt' attribute with a few keywords in the HTML <img> tag (Google it if you are not sure) as this will help to improve the search rankings of the target site.

Oh PS - Wordpress is awesome!
