B/f has symptoms of an sti but clinic say urine infection ?
« on: 09 September 2009, 05:20:03 pm »
My b/f told me yesturday he has had discharge and pain whilst urinating...I was worried as I think he has been faithful and knows about my job, but I have regular checks but do give OWO.

Today he went to the clinic and although the full results arnt back the nurse told him it was likely to be a urine infections and definitely wasn't chlamydia or gonorrhoea.

Now I can't seem to find anything on the internet that says discharge is a symptom or a urine infection, can anyone tell me any information on this.

thanks

Thats hard to say. A discharge and painful urinating? Sounds like the clap. I dont think he was being honest with you. I know cause few months ago I wrote a thread about it cause I had it. He has gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea is apparantly rife in Manchester just now, never had it myself. But if you do OWO the symptoms will be a really sore throat. Good news is you can get pills from the clinic to get rid of it. You have to also be careful about handwashing too as you can spread it from your mouth to your genital area, so ive been told. Bacteria can live in water so dry your hands well too. Take care of yourself, anybody is at risk from these things. Its a shame they are a taboo subject because talking about it can only increase everyones chances of safety. As far as the bf goes id steer clear of sexual activity until the all clear.

There are more specific signs and symptoms for each type of UTI. In addition to the symptoms listed above you may experience the following:

Acute pyelonephritis may cause flank pain, high fever, shaking chills and nausea or vomiting.
Cystitis may result in pressure in the lower abdomen and strong-smelling urine.
Urethritis may lead to pus in the urine. In men, urethritis may cause penile discharge.

If its that then its a simple remedy from the pharmacy, drink cranberry juice and gallons of water.

Thanks all...if he had gonorrhoea would they not be able to tell at the clinic?  Why would they say its a urine infection ?  I'm going to go again...only went 3 weeks ago, but better safe than sorry.

A urine infection does sometimes cause discharge and it's horribly painful. Not just when you wee but your belly and sides can hurt and you feel like you need to wee all the time. Does he feel the need to go constantly? If so that's a sure sign of urine infection and nothing more sinister.

I would air on the side of caution before worrying yourself he's cheated or you have given him a nasty dose of something.
If the nurse at the clinic was optimistic it was a urine infection then the odds are it is just that.
All you can do is wait to find out.

Well I have just booked in for tomorrow, I would hate and feel awful if I have given him anything as I try and be careful with regular testing and I don't really think he has cheated.  He was complaining of feeling rough on Monday and I have heard urine infections can cause fevers and similar, he is also older than me so a little worried that it could be something to do with prostate problems.  Like you said all I can do is wait and see, get my self checked so I'm not worried it's me.

I will have my fingers crossed for you. Dont feel bad though, its not the dark ages. Anybody who has been sexually active before meeting thier current partner(which lets face it is just about everybody) is at risk of picking something up. Things can lay dormant and not produce symptoms for quite a while im sure. Its not automatically down to cheating or the job you do. Its probably just a wee infection but you are doing completely the right thing getting it checked out and seeking treatment for your man which is much more important than arguing whos "fault" it might be. Let us know how you went on.

There are few certainties in life, but sadly, UTI's are one of them!  Almost everyone gets one at some point. Did he ask the nurse for the name of the bacteria?  Discharge is a symptom, since it is the human body's way of getting rid of bugs.

Well, the tests they did on friday are all clear, just waiting for the throat swabs.  The nurse said that if the other nurse that looked at my partner did think it was sexual they would have got me to take the same antibiotics.
thanks for all the help and support.

My apologies for jumping to conclusions. Sometimes I get iffy about these things...The other day I had a severe sore throat and started panicking that I had strep throat! I dont know what it was, but it went away in a matter of hours. Probably just allergies  :-[

I was like that too! Aches, pains, killer headache, felt like crap. Was convinced I had swine flu! Went to sleep, woke 10 hours later and felt fine!! But you were right to voice your concerns Joey. If I were about to step on a landmine, I wouldnt mind if you said, "Cindy, you might not want to do that!"  ;D
