Bed Bugs
« on: 28 June 2023, 01:21:40 pm »
Hey ladies.

I’ve just been to a well known hotel in Heathrow and I’ve left covered in bites. Wanted to give everyone the heads up. I have bites on my neck all the way from my fingers up to my elbows to the point Ive had to stop working.
I’ve had the odd bite in the past but this on another level.

The only other place I experienced bites was the cheap hotel in Canary Wharf. Thinking of packing my own sleeping bag in the car maybe. Are there any other ways to avoid being bitten?

Avon Skin So Soft Spray is good as a preventative although you'll smell like a citronella candle!

GG, did you pack all your stuff in plastic bags before you left the hotel? If not then do you have a garage or somewhere at home you can leave everything in so you don't bring them in the house - they can live in the seams of your suitcase and everything :(

Anti histamines and some calamine ought to help with the bites - that's really appalling.

Thanks so much for the advice. I’ve not been home yet so it’s all in the boot of my car. I’m going to get a new work bag tomorrow and bin everything because I’ve looked in the mirror and now I have them all down my back as well I’m in a right state to be honest.  :(

That is awful GG. I would do a review of hotel on google and contact them direct with maybe the evidence of all your bites. I never thought about bringing home bed bugs. What a nightmare.

I have just read this GG. Sounds terrible. Hope you are now bedbug free.

My son picked up bedbugs last year staying at his dad as they had crawled down the pipework from the upstairs maisonette.

Nightmare it was washing everything and throwing away bags etc.

Oh no GG I'm so sorry to hear that, touch wood I've never had that happening but can understand how traumatising it must be, which hotel was it in Heathrow, was it [removed - please don't post hotel names here]?

Bedbugs in London!
« Reply #7 on: 07 October 2023, 11:00:32 pm »
Chances are a lot of you have already heard, but just in case. Major bedbug invasion going on in London at the moment, so be extra careful when doing outcalls or working hotels in the capital.

Can you actually see bed bugs? 🐜 Sorry you went through all that.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Yes, major invasion right now in London, and these ones are quite aggressive apparently.

Yes, they're about the size of a ladybird but flatter. You don't normally see them though because they're nocturnal. They will hide in mattress seams then come out and bite you in your sleep.

Spray your mattresses with bleach and water mix. Vacuum your mattresses daily. Wash sheets in detergent and dry them on the highest setting.  I was in Paris last week and most people were panicked about the bed bugs.  Cleanliness is crucial in getting rid of these critters.

I wonder if buying a mattress cover would be a good idea, for touring. If you're going to be somewhere for a few days, first thing you do is put it on.
I'd hate to bring bedbugs home.

Mattress cover is a great idea. Also, a steamer and trace over every inch of the room as they die in high heat. Corners, cracks, seams. Place your bags and suitcase in the tub. Check for tiny blood stains in the seams of Mattresses.
