I didn't like this either & showing her other kids aswell. She's a lovely mature young lady. I hope she doesn't get any backlash from it. They said that younger people are more accepting of sex work so that was the main positive outcome of it. Although the BBC always like to put a negative spin on sex work. Having had experience with them myself a few years ago, they always like to highlight the bad comments.

I've always enjoyed Louis Theroux programmes but thought this was the "basic bitch" of documentaries about sex workers.

I previously thought he was good as an investigative journalist in the way he would appear to sit back and let the subjects give their own narrative. But this seems to be the opposite, they have scripted the documentary they want to make and gone backwards to find material that fits in with their foregone conclusions. Like the worst kind of daily mail/tabloid 'journalism'.

Makes me rethink the truthfulness and quality of other films he has made.

Many years ago someone told me their partner took part in a TV documentary investigating the impact of a dietary change on performance. The participants were to add in a food group they were not eating. This person did not add in that food group, so when performance didn't improve that then 'proved' to the documentary that food group was not required/didn't improve peformance.

Since then I know that documentaries usually have an agenda, also I was contacted a few years ago for a story on a certain slant about sex work. Because my story was one of improvement, not one of necessary desperation (apart from wanting financial & lifestyle independence) the journalist told me they needed to find someone else, my story wasn't what they were looking for.

Just watched this and I have to say I'm not familiar with a lot of his stuff. I did think that anything positive he said about sex work was then cancelled by a negative comment. And through the programme it transpired that there were back stories of difficult upbringings.

I suppose a woman doing sex work purely out of choice with no troubled background and was quite happy with it would make boring TV!

I did like all the women on the show. I was a bit surprised at how candid the first lady was with the kids about filming in hotels and do wonder how she might use them in the future? I can only guess the hotel in question was aware. Also I didn't like it when they interviewed her with her client and Louis made a very strong point about was he aware that she did this for the money only and certainly wouldn't shag him otherwise! The client hadn't considered this but he will now! I'd be pissed!

All these documentaries seem to say that the only reason any woman does sex work is because of some kind of negative experience / drug issue / financial desperation / mental health problems etc etc, like it's a last resort. I'm sure for many it is but it's hardly a fair balance. But then like I said, it wouldn't make a TV show!

Picture the scene: Theroux comes to my apartment while my polish plumber is fixing my toilet, then tries to guilt trip me into the following: "Are you aware he's fixing your toilet in exchange for money and that he wouldn;t fix it otherwise?"

Is Theroux aware that any service provider in any field will only work for money? Why is he trying to guilt trip two adults into what is a perfectly consensual relationship? Yes, she would kick him out of the door was there no money to be exchanged but so would my plumber.

I decided not to watch the doc as I have yet to see one which is fair and honest. Louis T is bottom of my list of journo reporter type people. I can not stand the man and his pseudo fascination in whatever he is blabbing on about.

My thoughts when I used to tune in to these types of programmes was that the women featured are almost always playing up to the camera. It is never ever really genuine.

I watched because it was much talked about on this forum and I noticed this bit too! The look on the girl's face when Louis was saying this to the client and when the client said he wasn't sure how he felt about the situation anymore.

I've never seen any of his documentaries but I felt so uncomfortable watching this one. Any person he interviewed, the questions were so probing, it made them feel sad and unhappy. When Ashleigh was crying because of all his pointed questions, it was evident that he was just there to judge and shame everyone involved in this industry

You would think that in 2020, they'd make a more balanced docu about the world's oldest profession.

Yeah, a lady contacted me on AW - seemed genuine and professional which is why I didn't immediately dismiss it as a punter just trying to mess me about/waste my time.
She also explained how the documentary was meant to be about the use of technology and its benefits for sex workers, as I think was mentioned in the thread.

After watching the doc, I think they contacted me imagining they could drag some mental-health-trauma sorta story outta me. I state on my profile that I have self-harm scars from my teen years (I have to state it cos they're very apparent and all over my body.) It's a thing of the past, but almost definitely what the documentary would've jumped on xx

What pisses me off about these documentaries is that it’s like they are trying to make prostitution illegal and stop us making any money until it’s made illegal, I don’t get what they have against us, it’s like men that don’t go to hookers get pissed off at the fact we sleep with men for just the money, it’s as if it’s ‘all boys together’ and that we’re evil money grabbing bitches or something and that all the clients are sweet, naive old men (if only) being taken advantage of by the evil Jezebel!

Like someone else on this thread said, if you didn’t pay a plumber then they wouldn’t unblock your toilet, a hairdresser wouldn’t cut your hair and in the US then if you had zero medical insurance then you wouldn’t get operated on, it’s not our faults that a very large majority of clients are extremely deluded as to why we do the job we do, that’s their fault for being naive and not seeing it for what it is!
