It's from the 'Beyond the Gaze' research, so it's a better estimate than anyone else's.

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

It's from the 'Beyond the Gaze' research, so it's a better estimate than anyone else's.

Indeed - given the large number of very part time people earning far less and the relatively miniscule number earning squillions, I suspect it's not far off at all.

Also bear in mind that 'average' means all the figures added together and divided by the number of people asked, so if one person earns £100K and another £100 quid, the average earnings would be £50.05K which nobody actually earned. It's an extremely blunt instrument.

The Beyond The Gaze book is called Internet Sex Work and on Amazon, if anybody wants to read the full research findings. I have it somewhere :)

I’m a full time sex worker and earn about 30k per year. I used to earn a lot more but the industry (for me anyway) is just not as busy anymore (plus I’m also lazier).
30k a year isn’t bad for a few hours work per week though. If I was earning that in a civvy job then I’d be working at least 40 hours per week

Bear in mind wage or income usually means after expenses, before tax and NI not actual takings or turnover.

For me it's lifestyle and excitement, also being mortgage and rentless less is more.

That seems a little high.

It will be the middle between part time and full time. I worked with a Romanian lady a couple of times with a client  last year. She worked so much I don't know how she did it. She told me how she was working average 3 men a day making 100k a year. She went back to Romanian for 3 months over Christmas and summer. but if someone like that or charge more compared to me who lucky enough to get 3 a week it be average between those?

£20k per annum is only a small amount given the high cost of living these days.

Averages don't mean a thing either.

Including male escorts will also probably reduce the average too.

I'd need to check the original to see if it's turnover (what a civilian would call their 'wage') or profit.

When I worked full time, I made £50,000 a year before tax etc.
Now I'm part time earning about £12,000 a year.

Are those figures before or after expenses?

When I was F/T in the sauna then I made just over £25k a year which is pretty rubbish considering the job that it is, there’s too many of us now I’m sorry to say and I wish it was still as lucrative as it was now, 15 years ago because I would’ve saved my cash and I haven’t and my head is no longer in the game to make that type of big money, just to get by now would now be enough but too many of us and always new girls popping up for the customers that chase new, new, new all the time.

I mean to be earning £100k a year ffs, I just couldn’t do the amount of men and hours that would give me this cash, not a chance in hell.

But that would be assuming you were charging the same rates and doing mostly short bookings - one of the reasons these 'average' figures don't make any sense without context is because the disparities between those that earn most and leaast are so incredibly huge, both in terms of what they earn and how they earn it. I couldn't do it at my rates either, but if I was doing overnights regularly and charging more per hour I can see how it would rack up (and ditto for somebody charging less buy with the energy and discipline to work all the hours God sends).

Are those figures before or after expenses?

The Beyond The Gaze interview question was about earnings/how much we took, not what happened to it afterward. There was a separate question about what we paid out, IIRC - if it wasn't then their figures will be all over the place because that's certainly the answer they got from me and pretty much everybody I know who mentioned taking part.

Can we keep it general and stick to the OP's question rather than just posting how much we've earned? It makes others uncomfortable and never goes well :)

Earnings are just that - earnings; taxes, and especially expenses don't come into it (though admittedly most salaried people think of their wage as the net amount that goes into their bank account each month).

I can see how an escort could earn 100,000pa quite easily, but I'd also be pretty sure most don't earn anywhere near that; on the other hand, 20,000 seems a bit low for anyone doing it full-time. I'd say the average is because many of us are part-timers.

When I was PAYE I saw my earnings as the net figure before tax, however I didn't have the expenses a self-employed person has such as advertising, rent (incurred as a result of the business), extra bills etc.

In light of the bills due to the business, the figure is turnover so I agree it looks very low however will have those who perhaps only take one or two bookings per week, straight males, large ranging demographic in there.
